Who we are Who we are As part of the Fletcher Building Infrastructure Products Division, Easysteel & Fletcher Reinforcing have a rich history in the building of New Zealand. In 1923, as the Vulcan Steel Construction Company, services were provided for the Fletcher Construction Company during the building of the Auckland University College. On completion of this contract the company continued to supply the needs of Fletcher Construction for structural and reinforcing steel and developed supply to a wider customer base across New Zealand. In 1954, as part of a reorganisation of the Fletcher Group, Fletcher Steel and Engineering Companies Ltd. was formed. This was also when Fletcher Reinforcing was split into a stand alone company. From here, the merchandising side of the business has grown into the Easysteel of today and Fletcher Reinforcing has grown in to New Zealand s largest supplier and installer of reinforcing structures. Nowadays, we have a national coverage of sales branches and processing plants to cover the needs of our customers. Easysteel works with steel fabricators and engineering firms across New Zealand to supply their hollow, structural and plate steels; while Fletcher Reinforcing works with all the major construction companies and building suppliers to meet their requirements for stock reinforcing bar and mesh, cut and bend, as well as prefabricated reinforcing structures. Both companies have excellent links with global suppliers who are all market leaders in their particular field. Health & Safety Health & Safety The Smartsite HS&E Programme was developed to assist Fletcher Steel Group Business Units reduce the likelihood of serious harm to both personnel and the environment. Smartsite is owned by each of the Fletcher Steel Business Units. Easysteel and Fletcher Reinforcing, as part of this group, facilitates this system and operates it throughout its seventeen sites in New Zealand. There are five levels in the Smartsite program and the aim within Easysteel is to get all branches to at least level three. This is equal to and in some areas, more than the tertiary level within the ACC partnership program. The minimal performance achievement for all sites audited must meet all level one requirements, as this will meet the legal requirements of the Employment Act, HSNO Act, ACC Act, Building Codes and other relevant legislation. The Smartsite HS&E program is audited by a fully qualified auditor and conducted throughout the Easysteel and Fletcher Reinforcing branches twice a year. Site Managers, team leaders and employees are encouraged to participate throughout the assessment program. This movement towards self assessment has resulted in our upskilling internally for greater ownership and compliance to JASNZ 4801/04 as a minimum standard. Our culture of Safety because we want to, not because we have to drives us to achieve our goals. We are relentless in our focus on achieving zero harm for all our work mates, colleagues, customers and suppliers ensuring that our actions or inactions never put a person s health or safety at risk.
