University of Illinois at Springfield Promoting Leadership and Management Excellence in Public Service CPM Professional Development Certificates When you earn a CPM Professional Development certificate you can update your skills and enhance your knowledge to become a more effective manager in a public sector environment. You can increase your value as a public manager with the most current knowledge and skills in this ever-evolving field and discover ways to enhance and improve your work. Our professional development programs are taught by experienced faculty who are leaders in their fields. Trainings are organized around experiential activities, case studies and other projects to help working professionals develop new skills. The CPM Professional Development Certificates are designed to provide professionals with the core competencies needed to advance in the workplace. A breadth and depth of skill and understanding that comes from planned learning Continuing Education Units (CEUs), Professional Development Units CPM Professional Development Hours that count towards a CPM Certification. Although, it is safe to say that there is broad agreement that evidence-based practice or EBP attempts to ensure that professional and organizational practice is based on the best available knowledge - research of what constitutes effective methods. In the social service sector evidence based practice has become a buzz word in the last few years. However there is still a great deal of confusion about what evidence base practices (EBPs) exactly means and the difference between evidence base practices and best practices. 1. Learn difference between Evidence Based Practice and best practices 2. Learn the relationship between Evidence Based Practices and Outcome Based Management 3. Learn what it means to move from counting to measuring service deliver to program impact 4. Identify where your program currently falls within the continuum of Evidence Based Practice

Cultural Competency Certificate 2 days or 20hrs Cost: $300 The process of developing cultural competency, like lifelong learning, is never complete. It cannot be done in a finite or isolated training. A person or organization can never become certifiably and completely culturally competent. Cultural competence is a continuum, and as such a person or organization can develop and expand their level of cultural competence. 1. Define cultural competency 2. Stimulation Scenario Planning Certificate 1 days or 10hrs Cost: $200 Stimulations and Scenarios are effective tools for planning. Building and using stimulations scenarios can help organization s to explore what the future might look like and the likely changes organizations may face. Stimulation Scenario planning is a method for thinking systematically about and understanding the nature and impact of the most uncertain and important driving forces affecting an organization s future. Stimulation Scenario Planning can also increases employee engagement by encouraging knowledge exchange and developing a shared understanding of the central issues important to the organization. 1. Understand the purpose and role of stimulations scenarios in planning and risk management 2. Understand the basic methodology / process in developing stimulations scenarios 3. Learn how to facilitate the stimulation scenario planning process Risk Management Certificate 1 days or 10hrs Cost: $200 Managing organizational risk involves identifying strategies, techniques, and approaches to recognizing and confronting any threat faced by your organization in fulfilling its mission. Risk management may be as uncomplicated as asking and answering three basic questions: What can go wrong? What needs to be in place in order to migrate the impact of a harmful incident/situation? Are there preventive measures we can take to avoid harm from occurring? Risk Management is essential to ensuring organizational effectiveness and sustainability. 1. Program Location and Schedule The Certified Public Manager Program of Illinois provides training across the state, providing the program in other Illinois locations if there is sufficient interest. CPMPI also offers the program online and via webinar. What is the Certified Public Manager Program of Illinois? The Certified Public Manager Program of Illinois (CPMPI) is a nationally recognized professional development certification program designed specifically for public sector managers. We are unique because CPMPI is one of only 42 programs in the nation selected to provide the CPM program. This innovative training program provides cost-effective, practical, job related instruction that can be used immediately to deal with real work and organizational challenges. Participants receiving training through the Certified Public Manager Program of Illinois Customized Training and Technical Assistance are awarded hours toward a CPM Certification. To obtain a CPM Certification participants must apply to the program and complete the program requirements. To obtain a CPM Certification participants must complete a 300 hour professional development training program. Don t panic! The CPM 300 hours includes hours for prior learning, a Learning Portfolio and a Capstone Project. On average, it takes 12-18 months to complete the program and obtain your CPM designation.
