Program overview Our Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management will allow you to develop an understanding of how to tackle common problems in the management of people across borders, in various legal and cultural contexts. You will develop a critical awareness of these legal, ethical, social, economic and environmental challenges and their implications for effective and successful HR strategy, operations, processes and decision making. Not only with the added convenience of being intensive and completely online, the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management provides an excellent pathway to the Masters degree. Program details Fees 2018 tuition fees are AUD$3720 per 12 credit point course, totalling AUD$14,880 for 4 courses. Program intakes 6 intakes annually (January, March, May, July, September and October). See our Fees page for information. Fees apply to 2018 only. Fees are adjusted on an annual basis and these fees should only be used as a guide. Nested qualifications Program duration 4 courses 8 months intensive part-time. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, you may continue on to further study at masters level. The Graduate Certificate is an entry pathway to the Masters degree for some students. Each course is 7 weeks in duration and requires a minimum of 15-20 hours a week study. 4

Program details Entry requirements An Australian bachelor degree or equivalent (or higher level qualification), in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution. If you do not meet the above entry requirement for the Graduate Certificate you may be considered if you have 5 years of work experience. English language International students are required to provide current evidence of English language proficiency for admission to RMIT University. You can provide your results from one of these three options: 1. an accepted English language proficiency test, or 2. an accepted English language provider, or 3. a recognised Australian or international qualification. Course descriptions Key Concepts in Human Resource Management This course aims to provide a conceptual foundation of key issues in human resource management (HRM). You ll analyse common HR problems in the workplace and find solutions, while further developing your research, conceptual, communication and interpersonal skills.the strategic significance and purpose of HRM activities in an organisation is examined along with the ethical and governance implications of emerging issues. Professional Human Resource Management Practices Reflect upon HRM practices from employee and employer perspectives, and develop practical skills and techniques to undertake performance management, negotiation, career planning, conflict resolution and recruitment. This course aims to increase and enhance your ability to operate in an independent and self-directed manner, leading to greater employability and connectivity with industry. People and Organisations Gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between intra- and interpersonal skills, together with individual and organisational performance. This course looks at ways in which you can improve the skills required of managers within an organisation when delegating work, addressing discipline, resolving conflict, managing cross-cultural teams and providing feedback to colleagues and direct reports. You ll also analyse performance and reward systems, motivational methods and industrial relations. Employment Law Discover the foundational principles of workplace law in Australia and in global context, and consider the development of law over the decades. You ll compare legal frameworks when looking at employee and employer issues, drawing comparisons with Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Germany and Scandinavia. In addition, you ll demonstrate sophisticated cognitive and creative skills in approaching issues relating to employment law and generate appropriate responses. 6

What you can expect from each course Initial communication Students can utilise the online forum to introduce themselves to each other and to course instructors. This is where students can form study groups and find information about course topics, teachers, content, assignment key dates and grading considerations. Synchronised study sessions These sessions are available for review purposes and to bridge gaps between the content and student comprehension. With at least one per seven-week course, they are scheduled well in advance to facilitate student planning. Times are rotated to accommodate students in multiple time zones and sessions are recorded. Learning content format Learning materials consist of a variety of components including video, text-based content, animations and more. Each week s content is clearly presented and linked to stated learning objectives, as well as overall course goals. This provides an environment where students can monitor their progress and prepare for upcoming concepts and learnings. Discussion boards The discussion boards are open throughout the duration of each course, and help promote critical thinking and interaction. Instructors utilise tagging/reply features to ensure that all students get important program and course notifications. Discussions are created and moderated by the course instructor or section instructor, and can be included in participation grades. Assessment While you will have no formalised on-campus exams, all RMIT postgraduate programs include rigorous assessments in the form of case studies, reports, online discussion interaction and engagement. This ensures that all learning is valuable, authentic and applicable to your work immediately. There may be some tests, quizzes or other online assessments, however you will not have to attend traditional on-campus examinations. Ongoing support and re-enrolment Each student will have a dedicated advisor via our study concierge service to help guide and motivate you through coursework, enabling you to manage your study/work/life balance, and help keep you informed of re-enrolment for upcoming study periods. Professor Stephen Teo Enabling Capability Platforms Director, Global Business Innovation As the Master of HRM program director, Professor Teo s experience is heavily research focused as well as industry-based. With strong ties to AHRI and the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management, he specialises in HR management, international and cross-cultural management, organisational behaviour, public and strategic management. He has published over 120 refereed journal articles and conference publications in the areas of Strategic HRM and International HRM in top-ranking international journals. Professor Teo joined RMIT University in November 2015 as the founding director of the Wellbeing and Performance Research Group within the New Zealand Work Research Institute and Head of the Management Department at AUT Business School. He continues to be influential in various leadership roles both within the university and outside. Management practitioners, lecturers from industry, guest speakers and industryrelevant projects underpin the work-integrated learning components of this program. Through the involvement of advisory boards, the links with industry standards and practices are also reflected. 10
