Approval overview European Technical Approvals/ European Technical Assessments The European Organisation for Technical Assessments (EOTA) was founded in the course of European harmonization, this organisation works out the fundamentals for granting European Technical Assessments (ETA). All European assessment bodies are represented in the EOTA (OIB, DIBt, etc.). The assessment bodies issue a European Technical Assessment for systems, which can be tested in centers of notified test bodies. Through the introduction of ETAs, european test standards and uniform classifications fire-protection systems can be used throughout Europe. Each Member State is free to specify its level of safety in the construction sector, as well as the requisite classifications and supplemental requirements for construction. fi restop systems 7

New applications and

firestop systems New applications and firestop systems New System ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE ETA-/06 The optimal match between the beginning of the reaction and hardening enables sufficiently long work interruptions, as well as fast work progress, for the user of the fire protection foam, which is intumescent in the event of fire. The high material viscosity prevents the foam from running out of the component opening. With the system, ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE, mixed penetration seals up to EI 90 or cable penetration seals up to EI can be produced. Easy retroactive-installation After the end of the reaction, the permanently elastic structure of the penetration seal enables easy retroactive-installation. Retroactive installations can simply be poked through the existing foam. Gaps that occur due to removal of cables or pipes can easily be refilled with the ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE. Single-product solution If the fire resistance classes EI 60 or EI 90 are required, the ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE suffices as a one-product solution. No additional material or work steps are necessary to produce a permanent and reliable through penetration firestop system. Fast and clean work The fire protection foam is particularly well-suited for fast and flexible closure of small and medium-sized through penetration firestop systems. A packaging unit with six cartridges of ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE, twelve mixing nozzles, six pairs of gloves, as well as one roll of duct tape, is delivered. The duct tape is outstandingly suited as form work for ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE. Through use of the new cordless DynamicMax dispensing gun multiple cartridges can be quickly and conveniently processed in succession. The practical solution for conduits up to EI / Conduits (single conduit diameter up to 40 mm) installed individually and with zero distance between conduits or as bundle (bundle diameter up to 80 mm) / With or without penetrating cables Reduced material consumption due to minimal seal thicknesses of 44 mm for EI 90 / Cables up to Ø 2 mm and cable support systems / Can be used quite easily in many applications without board frames and lining 0

New applications and firestop systems New Sealing areas that are free of penetrating elements with ZZ-Foam block 0 NE up to EI / Simply fill areas of the through-penetration fire stop system where there are no penetrating elements with ZZ-Foam block 0 NE, and foam areas where there are many penetrating elements with ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE / Fast, easy and cost-effective, particularly for larger openings Perfect penetration seal solution for single pipe penetration up to EI / Easy foaming of core holes where there is restricted accessibility / Seal thickness for EI 90 penetration seals in walls for the most part is only 44 mm / Non-flammable pipes / Non-flammable pipes insulated with mineral wool / Non-flammable pipes insulated with AF / Armaflex / Flammable pipes without collar up to Ø 50 mm Easy closure for multiple conduits to EI / Easy foaming of component openings where there is restricted accessibility / Seal thickness for EI 90 penetration seals in walls for the most part is only 44 mm / Non-flammable pipes / Non-flammable pipes insulated with mineral wool / Non-flammable pipes insulated with AF / Armaflex / Flammable pipes without collar up to Ø 50 mm firestop systems Reduced material consumption due to minimal seal thicknesses of 00 mm for EI 60 / firestop systems for cables (Ø 2 mm) for fire resistance class EI 60 require a seal thickness of just 00 mm, lining or board frames are dispensed with in flexible walls and rigid walls Note: mixed penetration seals for fire resistance class EI 60 with a thickness of 44 mm are possible

firestop systems New applications and firestop systems New System ZZ-Fire protection block 0 NE ETA-0/043 Mixed penetration seal / Medium-sized and large penetration seals with a medium to high density of penetrating elements / Penetration seal size up to 0.6 m² / firestop systems with frequently changing penetrating elements / If the ZZ-Foam block 0 NE is installed transversely (seal thickness 44 mm) a through penetration firestop system of fire resistance class EI 60 can be produced. / If ZZ-Foam blocks 0 NE are installed lengthwise (penetration seal thickness 0 mm), a fire resistance class up to EI can be assigned to the through penetration firestop systems (depending on the existing penetrating elements and, if necessary, with the use of ZZ-Wrap NE). Combination with ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE / In areas with a high number of penetrating elements, ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE can be used for closure. 2

New applications and firestop systems New System ZZ-Fire protection mastic NE ETA-3/0093 firestop system for electrical cables (Ø 2 mm) / Fast, easy and cost-effective / ZZ-Mastic NE has a high level of stability / Flammable backfill is possible / Minimal fill depths / Can be used in flexible wall without lining TIP: use PE round cords as backfill System ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE ETA-3/023 firestop system for electrical cables (Ø 2 mm) also for outdoor areas / Fast, easy and cost-effective, and excellently suited for through penetration firestop systems in outdoor areas / ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE has a high level of stability / Flammable backfill is possible / Minimal fill depths / Can be used in flexible wall without lining TIP: use PE round cords as backfill firestop systems 3

firestop systems New applications and firestop systems New System ZZ-Fire protection collar NE ETA-3/07 Pipe penetration seal of flammable pipes for retroactive installation (surface installation) / firestop system for flammable pipes up to Ø 60 mm / Retroactive installation of the pipe penetration seal on pipes that have already been embedded in concrete / The fastening tabs are on the collar sheet metal / Alternatively the fire protection collar can be inserted into the component and embedded in mortar (see below). New applications and New System ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE ETA-2/08 ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE is suitable for sealing expansion joints in walls and floors that simultaneously must also satisfy fire protection requirements. Minimal fill depth Expansion joints can be sealed with a fill of 5 mm on one side and mineral wool backfill up to a joint width of 40 mm. As backfill material, not only mineral wool, but also PE and R can be used depending on the application. Mineral wool can be processed quickly and easily due to its low density of 40 kg/m³. With the minimal fill depths of ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE and lower density of the mineral wool, the processor saves time and money. Application in building construction joints Through the verification in accordance with DIN EN ISO 600 the fire protection silicone is suitable for outdoor use in building construction joints. As specified in the verification, ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE satisfies the class F LM requirements. Expansion and movement joints with up to % mechanically induced expansion remain permanently sealed, even under demanding climatic conditions (e.g. temperatures to C). Fire resistance Reaction to fire is classified as flame-retardant in accordance with DIN 402-B, and in addition satisfies the class E requirements in accordance with EN 350-. Due to the European technical approval ETA-2/08, joint seals with ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE can be classified up to a fire resistance class of EI 80. The fire protection properties also remain intact when used in outdoor areas, this has been tested through tests in accordance with ETAG 026-3 and is reflected in the use category X. Building construction joint in accordance with ISO 600 and fire resistance classification up to EI / Class ISO 600-F-2.5 E / Joint width up to 40 mm / Backfill with the usual PE round cords / Cost-effective solution for joint seals through combination of the verification ISO 600 and fire resistance classification EI / Suitability for use in outdoor areas firestop systems Fire protection joint with movement capability 25 % up to EI / Joint width up to 40 mm / Movement capability 25 % (lateral elongation or shearing) with verification in the event of fire to EI / Backfill with mineral wool / Suitability for use in outdoor areas Additional application possibilities (e.g. fire resistance classification up to EI 80 or ISO 600-F- LM) are provided in the chapter. 5

firestop systems System The sequence of the system is based on the sequence of the systems. ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE In addition to its outstanding technical fire safety properties, the ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE is particularly characterised by its easy processing. It can be used as a mixed penetration seal (EI 90), as well as a pure cable penetration seal (EI ). In addition, the ZZ-Fire protection foam 2K NE can be used in the ZZ-Fire protection block 0 NE system for filling out sub-areas with penetrating elements. The optimal match between the beginning of the reaction and hardening enables sufficiently long work interruptions for the user, as well as fast work progress. Thanks to the high viscosity, the user does not have to deal with foam running out of the penetration seal. After hardening, the permanently elastic structure of the penetration seal enables easy retroactive-installation. Support in development and approval processes ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN GmbH specialises in the development of intumescent building materials. The term intumescence means expansion or swelling and is used in the fire protection industry for substances that increase their volume under the effect of heat. If an intumescent building material is charged with heat, a physiochemical reaction starts, which in parallel with decomposition of the building material and formation of an insulating layer, results in an increase of the volume. For the most part, intumescent building materials are based on organic substances. Effect of intumescent building materials Development of intumescence. Softening / decomposition of the base polymer (e.g. R, rubber, acrylic, silicone) 2. Release of the inorganic acid 3. Carbonisation 4. Gas formation through activation of the expanding agent 5. Intumescence through foaming of the system 6. Solidification of the intumescence through cross-linking reactions of the fire protection powder and its synergists a Intumescence / carbon layer a b c b c Softening area / decomposition area Base polymer fi restop systems Depending on the application area and required purpose of the building material or component, it is possible to influence the intumescence with reference to many parameters: / Level of intumescence / Temperature-dependent start of intumescence / Direction of intumescence / Stability of the insulating layer / Expansion pressure (i.e. the force with which the intumescence develops) This is achieved by adding specific flame-retardants and additives to the building material. For this ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN does not use any flame retardants that contain halogens. 67

Application examples for the intumescent behaviour Depending on the application, ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN can infl uence and optimise the intumescent behaviour of a component with reference to multiple parameters. Level of intumescence for cable and pipe penetration seals For cable and pipe penetration seals it is important that the level of intumescence be as high as possible so that cables and pipes are protected against the encroaching fire over a distance that is as long as possible, and so that temperature transmission via the copper conductors of the cables or the copper and steel pipes is limited. Intumescent effect building material ZZ-Fire protection foam BDS-N minimal System ZZ-Fire protection block 0 NE after fire ZZ-Foam block 0 NE Expansion pressure for pipe penetration seals Collar systems that are used as a penetration seal for flammable pipes must, in the event of fire, develop an expansion pressure that is as strong as possible and a very high level of intumescence, so that the opening that occurs due to the burned or softened pipes is quickly and impermeably sealed. fi restop systems Intumescent effect building material ZZ-Fire protection foam BDS-N maximal System ZZ-Fire protection collar NE after fire ZZ-Collar NE Stability of the insulating layer with fire protection joint seals The level of intumescence is less critical for fire protection joint seals because joints are not penetrated by elements through which temperature could be transmitted. For the function of joint seals, it is necessary that a stable and permanent insulating layer is formed. Positive material properties combined with fire resistance A great advantage when using the fire protection powder is that the positive properties of building materials remain intact. Elasticity and water impermeability sealing compounds Due to its special properties (high mechanical strength, for example in the form of elongation, water impermeability), silicone is highly significant in building construction for the sealing of building joints. For joints with fire protection requirements that the silicone cannot satisfy without additional measures, a common solution is to arrange mineral wool in the space between the silicone sealings. This solution helps fulfil the requirements, however there are several disadvantages associated with this solution: / Dust and fibre accumulate when mineral wool is processed / Additional material costs are incurred / In particular, the costs for installation of a running meter of fire protection joint increase ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE Silicone tubes Silicone profiles Through the combination of the fire protection powder with a building construction joint silicone, ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN was able to develop a fire protection silicone that is suitable for fire-resistant joints up to EI. It is installed in the same manner that an off-the-shelf silicone is installed, i.e. with PE round cords as backfill. The fact that the mechanical properties satisfy the requirements imposed on expansion and movement joints specified in DIN EN ISO 600 is worthy of particular mention. Insulation extruded foams as insulating tubes Due to the high resistance to water vapour diffusion and the low thermal conductivity, insulating tubes made of synthetic rubber are outstanding for insulating refrigeration pipelines. If the insulated pipelines penetrate fire-resistant walls and floors, pipe penetration seals must be produced in the wall or floor area, and this in turn has a negative effect on costs. ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN has developed a special powder mixture that can be homogeneously worked into the material of the insulating tubes directly in the manufacturing process. Through the fire protection upgrade, additional pipe penetration seals can be dispensed with in the future, because pipe tubes embedded in mortar achieve a fire resistance up to EI. On the other hand, we succeeded in maintaining the product properties, particularly the technical insulating properties in a manner that is more than satisfactory. Chemical resistance extruded profiles Due to the excellent elasticity, high level of weather resistance and good chemical properties, extruded profiles of synthetic rubber are frequently used as a sealing system. In this area as well, ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN succeeded in developing an intumescent fire protection powder that can be homogeneously worked into the rubber directly in the manufacturing process, and which subsequently can be extruded into a wide variety of profiles. Thus, in combination with the intumescent fire protection powder, the synthetic rubber sealing profile has a fire protection property and can be used in systems with fire resistance (e.g. as a window or door seal). firestop systems 69

The fire protection powder can be used in virtually any building material, and can be worked into the building material as part of the manufacturing process. ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN uses custom-developed fire protection powders for enhancing materials, such as polyurethane, acrylic, silicone, and butyl rubber Material: Polyurethane Polyurethanes are particularly versatile plastics that can be foamed or cast in a wide variety of moulds. Polyurethanes are encountered in all areas of daily life, (mattresses, sponges, clothing, paints, adhesives, etc.). Polyurethane can be manufactured in various gradations, from soft and elastic, to hard, as well as with different densities. In addition to these day-to-day applications, ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN uses polyurethanes in the area of fire protection. For many years ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN has been manufacturing most of the standard, as well as a number of special, of foams. Properties: A wide variety of geometries and shapes can be cast or foamed. / Casting compounds: rubber-like to hard, medium density to high density, 500 300 g/dm³ / Foams: soft to hard, low to medium density, 0 400 g/dm³ Examples: In addition to the standard for cable and pipe penetration seals, ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN produces a wide range of polyurethane moulded parts with fire protection properties: Air transfer grilles, sealing rings, sealing strips, mats, and many other items. Material: acrylic Acrylics are elastic plastics, which in the construction area are primarily used for the sealing of joints and stress cracking. In addition, acrylic is used for paints and lacquers, as well as adhesives. Properties: Unlike silicone, acrylic is odourless. In addition, after hardening, acrylic can be coated over and can be built up in multiple layers. Examples: ZZ-Mastic NE is an acrylic-based joint sealing compound that is used for sealing of joints and small openings in ZZ through penetration firestop systems, or also individually for small through penetration seals. Material: silicone, silicone foam Silicone is an elastomer with versatile implementation possibilities; in the construction industry it is primarily used as a sealant, casting compound or coating material. Properties: As an elastomer, silicone is extremely ductile and is capable of strong elastic deformation. Consequently, it is primarily used in areas where it accommodates elongation or deformation and then must return to its original shape. In addition, it is highly resistant to weathering; thus it is often used in outdoor areas or wet-duty areas, e.g. for joints in bathrooms. Examples: ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE offers these advantages of an elastic joint sealant, and in the event of fire simultaneously forms an extremely stable, hard carbon layer for fire resistance up to EI 80. ZZ-Fire protection silicone NE, satisfies the requirements specified in the EN ISO 600 standard for building construction joints, and in other standards. Material: Butyl rubber Butyl rubber is a polymer with plastic properties. Among other applications it is used in tapes, sealing compounds and adhesives. Properties: Butyl rubber is plastic, kneadable and mouldable, and in this regard self-adhesive, so that it can be very effectively shaped. Moreover, excellent resistance to ageing and weathering and compatibility with most building materials are additional advantages of this material. Examples: ZAPP-ZIMMERMANN primarily uses butyl rubber for ZZ-Wrap NE. firestop systems 7
