Conventional NDT services Magnetic Particle Inspection Dye Penetrant Inspection Ultrasonic Testing Eddy Current Inspection Radiography Visual Inspection, UK,

TRAC Oil & Gas Inspection & Testing Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is used for detecting surface and near surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. When a magnetic field is induced into the material by using an electromagnet, the presence of a surface breaking defect will create a leakage field. This leakage field is made visible to the human eye by use of finely divided ferromagnetic particles which are attracted to the leakage field thus giving a visible indication of discontinues, their size, location and shape. Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) / Penetrant Testing (PT) Penetrant testing is used for detecting surface breaking discontinuities in Ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials. Penetrants are brightly coloured dyes that are applied to the surface of the test material and given time (Dwell time) to enter into any defects. Penetrant testing can be used on any non-porous material. On completion of the Dwell period a highly absorbent developer is lightly sprayed onto the test area, drawing out dye from any discontinuity. The developer offers a contrast to the colour of the dye making interpretation of any defects highly visible. Alternative Penetrant methods include Fluorescent PT for use on carefully machined surfaces. Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) Ultrasonic Testing is the technique that measures the time for high frequency pulses of sound waves to travel through the inspection material, the frequencies are usually 0.1 15MHz but occasionally up to 50MHz. If a discontinuity is present, the sound wave will return to the probe in a shorter time than expected from a fault free specimen. Eddy Current Inspection (ECI) Eddy current testing is the technique where electrical currents are induced in to the material being inspected and observing the interaction between the currents and the material. Eddy currents are generated by coils in the probe and is monitored simultaneously by measuring the change in impedance in the coils. As eddy current is an electromagnetic induction process, direct contact with the material is not required, however, the material must be an electrical conductor. Other inspection techniques we offer are: Radiography (RAD) Radiography uses penetrating radiation that is directed towards a component. The component stops some of the radiation. The amount that is stopped or absorbed is affected by material density and thickness differences. These differences in absorption can be recorded on film, or electronically. Visual Inspection (VIS) Comprehensive offshore specific courses are offered in-house to meet our client s contractual requirements, including Coatings & Insulation Inspection.

Specialist Inspection Controlled Area Radiography Unrestricted use onsite compact equipment offering safe barrier radius of 2 meters. No disruption to adjacent work scopes or nucleonic measuring equipment and reduced exposure risks to technicians/ personnel. Suitable for all radiography applications and locations (offshore and onshore installations). Computed Radiography Shorter exposure times compared to conventional processing and no dark room requirements. Image annotations allowing accurate thickness measurements and repeatability. Multi-thickness components covered with a single exposure. Digital media allows emailing of images/results for onshore review. Suitable for corrosion under insulation, corrosion monitoring, temporary repair inspection, flexible riser inspection. Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) Sizing of flaws in new and in-service welds and components. Offers high Probability of Detection and immediate inspection results. An alternative to radiography and better reliability than conventional UT for in-service inspection., UK,

Fast screening of long lengths of pipework. Suitable for inspection of clad, buried, bridge crossings, jetty s, offshore risers, any sections of inaccessible pipework where there is access to one end. Minimum access required, time/cost savings, and fast set-up time. Thermal Imaging (Thermography) Fast and effective screening method for detection of leaks in offshore process systems and faults with electrical components circuitry. Light and compact equipment for one man operation and suitable for rope access use. Reliable proven technology for temperature measurements up to 1500 C. Positive Material Identification (PMI) Handheld and mobile Thermo- Scientific analysers are engineered for portable elemental analysis and ease of use. A very fast method of establishing the nature of any material in question and ideal for identifying in-service gasket material, piping material and bolt material. Riser Inspection (AquaTRAC) The AquaTRAC riser inspection tool is designed to carry out cleaning, close visual, radiographic and ultrasonic inspection on Flexible Risers. The system employs adjustable diameter fitment to risers, high pressure water cleaning system to safely remove marine growth. Close visual inspection of the riser using the 2 fully operating pan and tilt video survey cameras, and any areas of concern identified can then be subject to further inspection using radiographic or techniques to check for any underlying damage.

TRAC Oil & Gas Training Certification and Competency: Having being certified in accordance with a recognised scheme is not evidence of competency. What defines competency? In general terms competency is defined as: Education, formal training, independent assessment, relevant experience and finally attitude. Add to this knowledge of the processes and component to be tested. TRAC has developed a process to evaluate these attributes and if necessary, fill the gaps identified. Below is an illustration of the Skills Matrix of a Rope Access Inspection / NDT Technician employed in an offshore environment. Skills Matrix Outline process for inspection personnel employed in upstream oil & gas facilities CORE SKILLS Visual Product Technology NDT Methods INSPECTION BASE KNOWLEDGE QA/QC Recording/Reporting Processes INDUSTRY SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE Safety Relevant background information on working environment INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW Coatings & External Corrosion Process Pipework Internal Corrosion Pressure Systems It is fairly obvious that the certification process at best deals with some of the core skills. All other aspects of the matrix are relevant to the job in hand. TRAC has in place, comprehensive courses to allow us to train, assess and certify personnel in these methods and techniques. The courses are specific to Industry needs i.e. Offshore structures viz. Platforms, MODUs, FPSO or FSU. TRAC has purpose built facilities in the United Kingdom, and Brasil for courses in both Rope Access (IRATA) and Inspection/NDT. The tutors are highly qualified and experienced in their fields of expertise. In summary, TRAC is committed to the supply of verified competent personnel in whatever discipline is required to fulfil the contractual requirement, and has the necessary resources to do so.
