A Passion for Patients and People Sanofi US employees come to work every day to make a difference. Our company is a responsible healthcare partner that discovers, develops, and distributes therapeutic solutions focused on patients needs. Not only are we developing innovative treatments, but we also focus on educating patients and the public about diseases and how to prevent them. We are not just about selling products; we are promoting a healthy way of life. Our company continues to transform in order to help those with unmet medical needs, as well as provide more affordable products to patients who need them most. Utilizing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an integral component of our business strategy, we strive to produce our products and services in the most ethical and responsible way possible. Incorporating trust, truth, and transparency into our collaborations with stakeholders helps us demonstrate value in the communities in which we operate. As a company, we have identified 4 key CSR areas as being essential to our business. They are: Patient People Ethics Planet The center of our business Our employees and communities Our ethics in action Our environmental performance Sanofi US in North America is addressing CSR issues based on these 4 pillars that pertain to our US and Canadian operations. This brochure provides a few examples of our CSR best practices within each of these key areas. For more information, please visit our US CSR website at www.uscsr.sanofi.us. Patient Sanofi US s CSR approach helps us to meet patients needs by providing education, programs, and services, as well as products for those in need. John Spinnato VP, North American Corporate Social Responsibility Sanofi US Patient Assistance Program Even in developed countries, such as the United States, patients have difficulties accessing treatment because of inadequate health care coverage. Patients are our number one priority, and in order to meet their needs more effectively, Sanofi US is in the process of merging our prescription drug and oncology patient assistance programs. The revised program combines the traditional product patient assistance programs with our cancer therapies (formerly called PACT ). The income eligibility will vary depending on the product, but the method of applying for coverage has been improved. Ethics Every Sanofi US employee must perform their day to day activities in an ethically responsible manner. Our Prescription for Compliance is the ethics code we live by. Greg Irace Senior VP, Global Services Being Ethically Responsible for the Patient Sanofi US strives to continuously improve our ethical standing and incorporate good ethical practices into our day-to-day work. Our US Business Code of Conduct, A Prescription for Compliance, is designed for use by our employees (full-time and part-time) and contractors to help them understand the ethical and business expectations to which they must adhere while conducting business on behalf of our company. Training and education sessions are held on a regular basis. Each employee at every organizational level is expected to adhere to the compliance program, the US Business Code of Conduct, all policies and procedures, and applicable laws. On a yearly basis, employees acknowledge their responsibility and commitment to carry out our business practices consistent with these standards. Any employee who violates these standards is subject to appropriate disciplinary action. Employees and contractors are required to report potential violation(s) of the US Business Code of Conduct immediately. The Code prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports a suspected violation. Several reporting avenues are in place. Sanofi Pasteur US also has a Code of Conduct that is similar in nature to that of Sanofi US. The vaccines division has implemented a violation reporting channel, EthicsPoint, which is a user-friendly website that allows employees to report suspicious activities anonymously. The site, which reminds employees to SPEAK UP when they suspect an ethics or code violation, supplements the existing confidential hotline (1-877-476-2872) and can be accessed via the Sanofi Pasteur US Security intranet site. For more information about these Codes of Business Conduct, please visit www.sanofi.us or www.sanofipasteur.us. 5
Planet Our planet is our shared home. Climate change potentially affects biodiversity, public health, and may increase risk of diseases where they were rarely found before. Sanofi US strives to lessen these effects by continually striving to minimize the impact of our operations on the environment. Dr Paul Chew Senior VP, US Chief Science Officer/Chief Medical Officer Building and Maintaining Eco-Friendly Facilities One aspect of eco-responsible facilities is to assure that they are built to provide environmentally sound, profitable, and healthy workplaces. In order to accomplish this, several Sanofi US sites in the United States sought LEED certification. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a building rating system that was developed by the US Green Building Council in 2000. It is a nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction, and operation of highperformance green buildings. LEED certification provides third-party validation of a project s green features and verifies that the building is operating exactly the way in which it was designed. All types of buildings can achieve LEED certification: new construction and renovated buildings; existing buildings; commercial interiors; core and shell; schools; and even homes. LEED- Certified Sanofi US Sites US Pharmaceutical Operations HQ site (includes 3 buildings; Bridgewater, NJ) awarded certification under LEED program for existing buildings in 2010 Forest Park, Georgia (Distribution Center) site awarded LEED certification for existing buildings in 2009 Tucson, AZ site achieved Gold certification for new buildings in 2011 Cambridge, MA site achieved Silver certification for existing buildings in 2008 6 For more information on LEED buildings, access the following links: www.usgbc.org or www.usgbc.org/leed/homes.
