In the Secret Service, we: Protect the President, the Vice President, and other leaders; investigate threats against them; and, safeguard their residences and other facilities Plan and implement security designs for National Special Security Events Investigate financial crimes including fraud, identity theft and computer-based attacks on banking or telecommunications infrastructure Major Duties: The selectee will serve as a Document Analyst in the Forensic Services Division. His/Her duties will include, but are not limited to: Performing the physical analysis of problems related to one or more of the following questioned document disciplines: 1) chemical analysis, and 2) document authentication. These examinations require the use of various analytical techniques to support protective and investigative functions.

Page 2 of 6 Participating in research to resolve difficult problems and issues from a variety of sources; analyzing aspects of technological advances and their affect on operations. Testifying and/or articulating technical procedures during judicial proceedings or other requests. Utilizing a variety of instruments, substances, techniques, and procedures to examine, identify, and classify questioned documents. Incorporating the principles and theories of identification to include class and individual characteristics, analysis of printing and manufacturing defects, frequency of occurrence, and method of production in the examination of questioned documents. Qualifications: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- physical and biological sciences, graphic arts, police science, criminology, or law. Specialized Experience: OR Examination and comparison of handwriting, printing, typewriting, and other mechanical impressions in order to make determinations of identity or genuineness. Analysis of inks, papers, and other recording instruments and materials by chemical, microscopic, and other methods in order to develop information useful in determinations of genuineness, integrity, security, origin, validity of date, or for restoration of mutilated or obliterated matter. Specialized document photography and preparation of photographic exhibits to be used for court demonstration purposes, or supervision of such work. AND GS-9: One (1) year of specialized experience in examination and comparison of printing, typewriting, and other mechanical impressions utilizing instrumentation in order to make determinations of identity or genuineness. GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience in examination and comparison of printing processes, typewriting, and other mechanical impressions in order to make determinations of identity or genuineness. The use of instrumentation in the analysis of inks, papers, and other recording instruments and materials by chemical, microscopic, and other methods in order to develop information useful in determinations of genuineness, integrity, security, origin, validity of date, or for restoration of mutilated or obliterated matter. OR Education: GS-9: You may substitute a Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education in a qualifying field or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for the experience required at the GS-9 grade level. GS-11: You may substitute a doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a qualifying field for experience at the GS-11 grade level. Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of document analysis to encompass reprographic and document design methods and procedures. BASIS FOR RATING: You will be rated based on an evaluation of your experience and education as it relates to the qualification requirements and on the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) listed above to determine which quality category you should be placed in.
