NRF Conditions Scholarships may not be held simultaneously with a bursary/scholarship from any other government or NRF source or NRF administered source. Scholarship-holders are not allowed to hold binding supplementary bursaries. Scholarship-holders may not hold full-time employment during the tenure of the scholarship. Scholarship-holders will be allowed to undertake a maximum of 12 hours of teaching, tutorial, assistance or demonstration duties per week on average during the year of study. Support for Masters degree with coursework will be considered provided the proposed study thesis/dissertation weighs at least 50% of the total course content. Applicants who already hold a qualification at this level are not eligible to apply The NRF will not support studies which exceed a period of the degree e.g third year Masters or fourth year PhD degree.
NRF Selection Criteria The following selection criteria are taken into consideration Academic merit Promise of research ability Significance and relevance of proposed research Leadership qualities Previous prizes and awards The likelihood that the candidate will successfully complete the Masters or Doctoral degree. Institutional research support and expertise Recommendation by supervisor and referees The scientific merit of the application: i.e. ( how well the research problem is conceptualised and how well and appropriate are the approaches/methods described )

NRF OUTCOMES Funding decisions will be made available to applicants on the NRF website: www.nrf.ac.za at the end of December 2011 for 2012 funding. NOTE: In order to be considered for UCT Merit awards you are required to apply to the NRF Wishing you the best of luck!!!
