Quantity Surveying in Practice is a specialised course designed to respond and prepare you as professional to this global demand in the surveying profession. Whether you are professional who wish to gain practical training to understand the QS profession or an APC and Associate candidates looking to consolidate practical skills and knowledge required to be a competent, qualified Quantity Surveyor, this programme is developed for you. You can choose from the following tracks to join this programme based on your individual learning objectives. Technical Track - Who is this for? You wish to acquire practical knowledge and competencies defined for the QS profession through flexible learning options. You are interested in APC but do not have sufficient experience and wants to understand the technical expertise and competencies required by RICS to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. APC Track - Who is this for? You want to deepen your technical knowledge and expertise meeting the competency requirements of the QS profession and seeking structured guidance and support of qualified assessors towards chartered membership status. Programme Structure The course will be delivered in blended learning approach over six (6) months. Each technical module will be offered online where you can also network, learn with other delegates, and ask questions to your trainer/assessor through discussion forums. Each online module allows you to complete it within three (3) to four (4) weeks to follow by face to face session to be held once a month. The morning face to face session is to meet with your peer, trainer/assessor and review the online content and discuss on its practical application. Delegates who are enrolled on APC track has to attend the afternoon session to complete the APC workshops. Content Technical Modules (200 HRS CPD) (Online + half-day face to face consolidation session) TM1: Introduction to the Quantity Surveying in practice TM2: Construction technology and environmental services TM3: Procurement and tendering TM4: Design economics, cost planning and commercial management of construction TM5: Quantification and costing of construction works APC Membership Workshops (100 HRS CPD) (Additional Modules for APC Track) APC1: Introduction to APC process, writing summary of experience and case study. APC2.1-2.6: Mandatory Competencies Workshops APC3: Optional Competencies Workshops APC4: Conduct Rules, Ethics, and Professional Practice APC5: Preparing for Final Assessment Interview TM6: Construction law and standard forms of contract TM7: Project financial control and reporting

Learning Outcomes Technical Modules Upon reaching the end of the course, delegates have gained the required knowledge to be able to: Evaluate forms of construction for various property types Assess the practices and procedures of international quantity surveying Compare and contrast procurement strategies Identify the contractual requirements and procedures relevant to construction finances Evaluate the factors which affect the cost of a building Evaluate the sources of cost data relating to construction Assess cost planning methods to control the financial aspect of a project Illustrate the quantification and costing of construction work Assess contract practices and administration processes Evaluate and forecast cost during the construction of a project Manage various aspects of a project including change procedures and accounts APC Workshops (for APC Track Learner s only*) After undertaking the RICS membership training sessions, delegates will be ready to: Demonstrate understanding of the core competencies of the Quantity Surveying APC pathway in the summaries of experience. Prepare case study and presentation for submission. Sit on final assessment interview with preparedness and confidence. End of Course Assessment Your progress in the technical module content will be supported through your training programme by dedicated course trainer/assessors. You will then be assessed through online final examination. The examination will take place within a one month window period towards the end of the programme. Upon successful completion of the technical modules, you would have completed 200 CPD hours study. APC track learners will have 300 CPD Hours of study which is inclusive of APC workshops. You will receive a certificate of course completion confirming you have successfully attended and passed the Course in Quantity Surveying Practice. Who is the Programme for QS APC and Associate Candidates who want to accelerate their progress. Surveyors from other backgrounds who wish to become chartered QS members. Other professionals in the built environment who want to have an in-depth technical knowledge in Quantity Surveying profession. (e.g. Architects, Engineers, and Construction Project Managers, etc.) Note: APC Track enrollees need to register with a copy of your CV for assessment and email it to lkwok@rics.org.

Learner Material and Support Each content module is composed of the following learning tools, to support and enhance your learning experience in achieving the programme s learning objectives: E-Learning sessions Gain understanding and practical technical skills of each competency modules hosted on RICS dedicate e-learning platform. Reading Material Further your study and understanding of the methodologies through sourced articles and textbooks. Face to Face Sessions Consolidate your learning from the modules, meet the course trainer/assessor and ask any questions directly. Case Studies Be able to practice the theory taught within the module through practical examples. Your responses and your peers can be shared within the online forums and learn from each other. Online forum Ask questions and feedback from your trainer and peers. Each module has a dedicated forum to provide you with constant access to your trainer/assessor and a shared learning area with fellow delegates. End of module quizzes At the end of each module is a short quiz, to check your understanding of the content and to help track your progress. Final Exam At the conclusion of the course there will be a final examination to assess achievement of the learning objectives. Passing rate is 65% with two attempts to pass. Summaries of experience for Assessor s feedback (APC Track Learners Only) A QS Assessor will review your summary of experience for each competency and give personalized feedback.

Know how to create a strong, defined summary of experience written submission in line with competency requirements Recognise the role of case study in overall assessment and learn how to structure your case study to demonstrate knowledge and skills for your APC submission. Look at all aspects of the competency and identify the areas of work commonly included within each QS competency. Submit summary of your experience for assessor s review and feedback. Learn at the five professional and ethical standards that underpin RICS members' behaviour and how they are related to RICS's regulatory framework Walk through the assessment criteria applied during interviews, to gain a clear understanding of how you can best prepare.
