Job Summary: The officer supports the Department of Public Safety s (DPS) mission to provide students, employees, and guests of the university with a safe and secure environment in which to study, work and enjoy programs offered by the university. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Provides general public safety services the within University Jurisdiction. 2. Completes incident and offense reports as required. 3. Remain in constant contact with others via cellular telephone and/or radio. 4. Issuance of University Parking Violation citations and State Traffic Offense Citations. 5. Provide routine patron escort and general customer services. 6. Guards university and personal property against damage, fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry by performing the following duties: a. Routine patrols of buildings and grounds of the university on foot or in patrol vehicles. b. Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure. c. Monitors for violations of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and reports to local law enforcement agencies persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts. d. Inspects equipment and machinery to determine if tampering has occurred. e. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes or other building safety hazards, and security doors left unlocked. f. Observes individuals to guard against theft of university property and takes legal action when warranted. g. Responds to minor and major incidents within University Jurisdiction and calls for additional assistance of local authorities when warranted. h. Allows authorized persons to enter property. i. Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff. j. Enforces Texas State Statutes where applicable k. Conducts Criminal Investigations to Offenses that occur within University Jurisdiction l. Detains and when warranted arrests suspects charged with criminal offenses. m. Conducts motor vehicle accident investigations that occur within University Jurisdiction. n. Administers immediate aid to persons injured and awaiting ambulance services. o. Responds and takes warranted actions to crimes in progress within University Jurisdiction. p. Responds and assists local law enforcement/public safety and other emergency service personnel when requested for incidents occurring relatively close to the campus. 1

q. Monitors vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow and safety within University Jurisdiction; and when warranted enforces state statutes and university regulations, policies, and procedures. r. Performs all normal duties of a State of Texas Peace Officer as required by State Statutes. s. Attends and satisfactorily completes all University DPS and TCLEOSE mandated training.
