Richelieu introduces decorative hardware that contributes toward satisfying Credit 4.1 and 4.2 Recycled Content for LEED certification Richelieu takes seriously its responsibilities to promote environmental stewardship and proudly announces the introduction of three collections of the only solid brass decorative hardware in the marketplace that will contribute toward satisfying the recycled content credits under LEED. As a socially responsible company, Richelieu is committed to offering products that support the green revolution taking place in building design and construction. The decorative hardware line is the most future friendly product in the cabinet hardware industry. Made from 100% recycled brass in a process that recovers 98% of the waste metal generated in its production, these green products are not only ecologically friendly, they are also available in a variety of styles and designs adapted to requirements of the North American market. What is LEED? The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for high-performance buildings facilitated by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED certifies buildings and systems based on credits obtained in the following categories: site choice, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation and design process. What is the USGBC and SCS? The U.S. Green Building Council is a non-profit organization that certifies sustainable businesses, homes, schools and neighborhoods to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. SCS (Scientific Research Systems) is a leading third-party provider of certification, auditing and testing services, and standards, founded in 1984. Why is important to have a LEED certified building? for the positive image and the users perception about eco-values global, federal, state and local regulations on taxes in place or on the way green movement is a scientific and social phenomenon business-to-business pressure for green products The forecast for green building will grow from $7.4 billion in 2007 to $38 billion by 2010 according to the National Association of Home Builders. Green buildings use key resources more efficiently than conventional building that are simply code compliant. LEED certified buildings create healthier work and living environments, contribute to higher productivity and enhance occupant health and comfort

Richelieu product characteristics Available in contemporary and classical style Coordinated by finish and design Pulls available in several lengths Life time warranty for the 3 finishes (Antique English, Brushed nickel, Oxidized satin bronze) Made from solid brass with the highest rate of recycled material (92% pre-consumer and 1% post consumer) First certified brass made product International exclusivity of distribution Quick delivery (items permanently in stock) Credits Use certified cabinet hardware from Richelieu you may satisfy MR Credit 4.1 and MR Credit 4.2 and obtain 2 points The USGBC's statement of the LEED rating system impact of using recycled materials: MR Credit 4.1: Recycled Content: 10% (post-consumer + 1/2 pre-consumer) / 1 Point Intent Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. Requirements Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project. The recycled content value of a material assembly shall be determined by weight. The recycled fraction of the assembly is then multiplied by the cost of assembly to determine the recycled content value. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing components and specialty items such as elevators shall not be included in this calculation. Only include materials permanently installed in the project. Furniture may be included, providing it is included consistently in MR Credits 3 7. Recycled content shall be defined in accordance with the International Organization of Standards document, ISO 14021 Environmental labels and declarations Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labeling). Post-consumer material is defined as waste material generated by households or by commercial, industrial and institutional facilities in their role as end-users of the product, which can no longer be used for its intended purpose. Pre-consumer material is defined as material diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process. Excluded is reutilization of materials such as rework, regrind or scrap generated in a process and capable of being reclaimed within the same process that generated it. Potential Technologies & Strategies Establish a project goal for recycled content materials and identify material suppliers that can achieve this goal. During construction, ensure that the specified recycled content materials are installed. Consider a range of environmental, economic and performance attributes when selecting products and materials.

o MR Credit 4.2: Recycled Content: 20% (post-consumer + 1/2 pre-consumer) 1 Point in addition to MR Credit 4.1 Intent Increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing the impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. Requirements Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes an additional 10% beyond MR Credit 4.1 (total of 20%, based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project.
