Solid Waste Management (1) The facility is designed to handle mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) and is located 10km from them city of in the southeast of Cyprus. The permanent population served is 200.000 citizens. The innovation of plant is that it can handle both mixed and source separated material and can produce compost and SRF simultaneously, so it has a high flexibility and can be adopted very well in the change of waste composition, and the requirements of market for end products in the future.
Solid Waste Management (1) This integrated facility includes the following plants: q A Mechanical Biological Treatment Plant (MBT) for the treatment of solid waste, with a q capacity of 160.000t/y of mixed municipal solid waste from households at a two shifts operation q A material recycling facility (MRF) 20.000t/y, for the recovery of recyclables sorted in the source q A composting plant for the composting of the organic material sorted in the source q A Sanitary landfill site with an annual capacity of 88.000t/y and a minimum time-life of 20 years (total volume 2.8 million m3)
Larnaca Collection, depositing and processing of waste One of the chief competencies of the, stemming from the Municipalities Law, is the collection, depositing and processing of waste, as well as the protection and improvement of the environment and keeping presentable. Since cleanliness and environmental hygiene contribute to improving the quality of life but also safeguard public health, this constitutes a priority for the and one of its chief challenges. In the city of, the rubbish collection applies 3 times per week and this applies every day from tourist, commercial and city center and for recycle materials once a week (Green dot Cyprus). Competencies of the Sanitation Service i. Garbage collection from residences and commercial homesteads ii. Collecting trimmings and other bulky objects via clean-up campaigns held from time to time. iii. Street cleaning and cleaning of communal spaces. iv. Washing of streets, squares, covered public car parks, open marketplaces and municipal dumpsters. v. Collaborating with collective schemes, companies and competent organisations on managing waste flows vi. Recyclable materials (glass, aluminium, paper, plastics): Green dot Cyprus vii. Clothing and footwear: Anakyklos Perivallontiki viii. End-of-life vehicles: licensed units ix. Batteries: AFIS Cyprus Ltd x. Electrical and electronic devices: WEEE Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd xi. Collection, transport, processing and final disposal of animal cadavers (dogs, cats) and pets/birds: Sigan Management Ltd.
