ECCA Premium History We talked about it for 20 years We launched the project in May 2011 In June 2013, at the General Meeting, ECCA members voted GO for ECCA Premium We trained the Inspectors on 9 September 2014 We launched the label on 15 September 2014 We received the first application on 23 September 2014 The first label(s) will be announced on 17 November 2014 at the ECCA Autumn conference

European Coil Coating Association ECCA is the Voice of the Coil Coating industry in Europe, representing more than 120 companies active in coil coating and the major suppliers to the industry. ECCA is dedicated to the promotion of the use of coil and/or sheet coated metal as the environmentally sound, the cost effective and the high quality method of finishing. Founded in 1967 Headquarters located in Brussels Association of corporate companies ( federation of national associations) 1,236 million m² and 191 kt paint (*) 83% Steel / 17% Aluminium(*) (*) 2013 ECCA statistics 3

MISSION Objectives Increasing the awareness of prepainted metal through targeted marketing programmes Promoting the benefits of prepainted metal through the provision of innovative solutions and with particular emphasis on environmental, cost, quality and design benefits Stimulating market, application, product and process development Setting quality performance standards and developing test methods Creating an industry network and forum for the development and exchange of ideas Representation of the Industry in its contacts with Public Officials, Public Authorities, other Trade Associations and Professional Bodies. Granting of Quality and Sustainability Labels for prepainted metal on the basis of the technical and sustainability requirements defined in the ECCA Premium Label manual and based on independent third party control 4

ECCA Premium Why a quality and sustainability label for prepainted metals? What is ECCA Premium? Specifications Organisation and administration How to get ECCA Premium? ECCA Premium promotion

WHY a quality and sustainability label? Increasing amount of materials on the market not fulfilling the requirements of the national and European quality and sustainability standards Increasing competition on price at the cost of quality and sustainability All actors on the market are not constrained by REACH No visible way to prescribe quality and sustainability Competitive and well-known quality marks on the market, e.g. Qualicoat

Philosophy behind ECCA Premium Goals and objectives Make Quality & Sustainability top criteria for product selection by decision makers along the construction chain Fight against low quality materials: promote sustainability and quality upgrade of products and ensure a level playing field and fair competition Avoid deterioration of coil coating image by promoting sustainable and high quality product & processes

ECCA Premium Why a quality and sustainability label for prepainted metals? What is ECCA Premium? Specifications Organisation and administration How to get ECCA Premium? ECCA Premium promotion

What is ECCA Premium? A quality and sustainability label, which ensures that the processes of manufacturing are done in accordance to well-defined standards Application for the label by written statement Granting the label based on independent inspections and test procedures Technical and sustainability criteria Product and manufacturer specific requirements

What is ECCA Premium? ECCA Premium is a quality and sustainability label for prepainted metal products designed for outdoor applications. Goals and objectives establish and grant quality and sustainability labels for prepainted metal products based on well-defined European standards ensure an appropriate use of the quality and sustainability trademark ECCA Premium, an internationally registered trademark ensure that the criteria and procedures for granting the label are fair and harmonised in each country promote the use of European standards for prepainted metals: EN 1396 and EN 10169

What is ECCA Premium? ECCA Premium can only be applied for by a coil coater Suppliers (paint, chemical, substrate) can/should make sure their products are compliant with the requirements, but cannot be granted the label ECCA Premium can be granted to any coil coater whose line and product fulfill the requirements Not limited to European coil coaters or to ECCA members

What is ECCA Premium? ECCA Premium is product and line specific Product: Defined by its brand name and technical specifications May vary on many properties, but NOT on paint type and thickness Exception: film thickness variation due to colour matching needs is accepted, BUT a 25μm brown PE and a 35μm brown PE are not the same product Line: Coil coating process part of the line. Any combinations with other process steps are accepted, but the requirements only relate to the coil coating part of the process

What is ECCA Premium? ECCA Premium is based on EN standards and European legislation Requirements divided in four categories Product quality Product sustainability Manufacturing quality Manufacturing sustainability
