LIVESTOCK FACTS: Divide students into seven groups: beef cattle dairy cattle sheep and wool horses swine goats and mohair poultry and eggs After reading Livestock and Their Products in the Texas Almanac, students will write a paragraph or write five interesting facts about their group s livestock within or around the outline of the animals on the following pages. 2. MAGIC PUZZLE: Using information from Livestock and Their Products, students will complete the Livestock Magic Puzzle. Read each clue, fill in the blank, and then locate the answer to each clue in the puzzle. Write the number of the clue in the correct puzzle picture. Students can check their answers by adding the numbers in each column (vertically) and each row (horizontally); each total will be the same for each column and row. This is the magic number; write it in the magic number blank. HINT: Two of the clues will not be used. 3. RESEARCH AN ANIMAL: Each student will choose one animal discussed in the Livestock and Their Products section and explain how this animal is important to the Texas economy. (They may also wish to gather information from additional sources such as books, the Internet, or a local fair.) Their paragraphs may be written within or around the animal outlines, decorated and colored, and displayed in the classroom.
