NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ANDHRA PRADESH Mentor institute: NIT Warangal SRI VASAVI ENGINEERING COLLEGE CAMPUS TADEPALLI GUDEM-534102 DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF THE BIOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION (2017-18) The Biotechnical Engineering Association (BEA) has been prosperously inaugurated on the 9 th September 2017. BEA had a humble yet prosperous beginning in 2016.With fresh faces, tantalising tasks and a vehement vision, BEA set its own bar of standard in fulfilling the technical and non-technical necessities of all its prodigies. The association has come up with a distinct and diverse agenda, yet again. Our vision was and will be to explore the interdisciplinary field of Biotechnology and its role in various other fields of engineering. This is an association organized by the undergraduate students of Department of Biotechnology. Students are soul and strength of this association and would be organising guest talks, conducting paper presentations, group discussions, proposing working models and research hypotheses. The chief guest of the inaugural function was Dr. Ch. Mohan Rao, honourable JC Bose National Fellow and Former Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology(CCMB), Hyderabad. The inaugural has also witnessed the guests of honour, Dr. Onkara Perumal P., Head of the Department (HOD) and Dr. Asim Bikas Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal. The stimulating and thought-provoking words of the chief guest entangled the students with sheer passion. Our guests of honour from the mentor institute, NIT Warangal and Prof. P. Nageswara Rao, HOD, Science and Humanities, NIT Andhra Pradesh have also addressed the students with their priceless inputs on association activities. The executive body of BEA, Department of Biotechnology, NIT Andhra Pradesh for the academic year 2017-18 led under the supervision of Dr. K. Invariable events have been organised as a part of the association 2016-17. Along with some of the previous year s activities, this year s agenda primarily includes: 1. AWARENESS ABOUT THE FIELD OF BIOTECHNOLOGY AMONG OTHER BRANCHES: An initiative to provide awareness about the course and its importance in the field of engineering and technology. It also ensures on wiping out the misconception of biotechnology as a field exclusively of biological sciences. 2. INTEGRATION OF MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES WITH BIOTECHNLOGY and PROMOTING IDEAS Converging biotechnology with other disciplines would bring out new inventions and also create a whole new technology.bea provides a platform to share knowledge and acknowledges it by bringing those ideas into limelight. 3. ESTABLISHING SYNERGIES We plan to interact with students of our mentor institute NITW and incorporate their best practices and views in our curriculum to perform research work and publish papers in symposiums. 4. CAREER COUNSELLING: BEA plans on organizing events on career counseling by inviting distinguished Alumni of Department of Biotechnology from the mentor institute NIT Warangal where students would get to know their experiences, discuss career pathways and various opportunities post engineering. 5. PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT: As presenting an opinion with confidence is essential to thrive in any field, our association would organize events where students can present their opinion on a given topic and conduct group discussions 6. MAGAZINE PUBLICATION: An interesting add on to the previous year s agenda is the proposal to publish a magazine which would consist of association related activities, fun facts of biotechnology, biotechnology inspired photography, arts and many more. The association broadly would make students come closer to current trend of science and technology in the field of Biotechnology. It would nurture the innate talents of students and would provide to them a wider perspective of life, in both, academically and nonacademically point of view.
