JOB TITLE : DEPARTMENT : LOCATION : CONTRACT : REPORTS TO : Information Services Assistant Library and Information Service Manchester Permanent, part time (28.75 hours per week, normal working pattern will be 12noon-4pm on Wednesdays, 12noon 8pm on Thursdays & Fridays, and 9am 8pm on Saturdays, although there may be some flexibility on this) Library Manager JOB BACKGROUND BPP University offers a range of programmes at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels across Law, Business and Health programmes. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join our Library & Information Service team in Manchester to assist us in delivering a first rate Library and Information Service to our staff and students. Applicants should be self-motivated, with good IT and client care skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Responsibilities include assisting with loan and issue desk services, answering staff and student enquiries (including basic IT support), shelving and tidying, and performing clerical and administrative duties. JOB PURPOSE You will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the University s library and information services including basic IT support and ensuring the library remains a pleasant and conducive environment in which to study. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES As a member of the Library & Information Service team you will be expected to: assist with the provision of loan services and other Issue Desk services assist staff and students with access and use of the library s collections answer routine enquiries and refer where appropriate provide basic IT support and refer where appropriate open and/or close the library, including cash handling procedures be proactive in maintaining the library environment and ensuring that it is conducive to studying monitor and report on student usage and demand and ensure that there is appropriate communication with other members of the LIS team undertake work involving the movement of books and book trolleys

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Essential Excellent communication skills Excellent customer service skills An ability to maintain a professional approach An ability to work effectively as part of a team An ability to work on own initiative within guidelines established An ability to prioritise and maintain attention to detail in a pressured environment Confidence in using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, email and the internet Desirable Previous experience of library work and/or experience in a customer service role is desirable but not strictly necessary. Ideally educated to degree-level, however applications from candidates with appropriate and relevant work experience or other equivalent qualifications will also be considered. Experience in using Symphony or other automated library management systems. Experience in library work related to any of the main subject areas studied at BPP University Experience in using Moodle or other Virtual Learning Environments Experience in using Sharepoint or similar intranet system Please note the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
