Copper Clad Aluminium Conductor Copper Clad Aluminium Conductor is a best suited solution for replacing pure aluminium, copper and GI cable or strip for above the ground applications. This is an electrical conductor with inner aluminum core and an outer copper cladding. It is made up of high grade aluminium core metallurgically bonded with pure copper coating of 10% or 15%. Copper clad aluminum conductor is available in a single strand of 8 mm dia. and it comes in a drum roll of length 500 meter to 10 km. Copper-clad aluminum conductor is highly recommended against pure aluminium as it is less flexible and tends to break more including low melting temperature. The solid aluminium had two inherent problems that led to its use being discontinued over time. First is because the vast majority of connectors & termination points in indoor wiring, Aluminium wiring is susceptible to galvanic corrosion at the connections points. Secondly, solid aluminum exhibits a relatively high rate of cold flow or creep. When connected under compression, the connections tend to loosen over time. Both Galvanic corrosion and cold flow can lead difficult to find intermittent connections. Copper-clad aluminum conductors, however, have neither of these problems. Copper clad aluminium busbar adopts advanced processing, continuous rolling and direct casting techniques which make the copper layer and aluminium layer combining each other firmly and permanently. Copper clad aluminium busbar consists of a solid core of electrical grade aluminium with a pressure bonded outer layer of high conductivity copper. This compound has both advantages of better conductivity of copper and lower density of aluminium. It can reduce cost by 25% above compared with a copper bar of equal dimensions. It offers economical solution and weight saving advantages over solid copper, while retaining the surface properties of a copper busbar. This yields the maximum cost saving.
