Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 2 of 20 Introduction The purpose of this document, including the attached drawings, is to convey the scope of work and technical requirements required to complete the structural and maintenance remedial project located at the Hastings Stadium at Exhibition Park, 81 London Road, Guelph. In brief, the proposed work at Hastings Stadium includes the following items: Clean and repair any deteriorated steel connections, including all welds, and apply protective coatings to any exposed steel, including welds. Install supports to the top edge of the exterior block walls. Install adequate supports for the sidewall X-bracing, including uplift anchorage. Install adequate guards at the front edge of the bleachers. Remove and replace access stairs to storage mezzanine with stairs meeting the requirements of the OBC. Provide mezzanine guards meeting the requirements of the OBC. Reinforce the existing wood-framed mezzanine to allow 4.80 kpa (100 psf) storage loads. This document is intended to be reviewed and used by the selected contractor(s) to better understand the general scope of work required to complete the remediation project and for pricing purposes. For pricing purposes, it is expected that the contractor(s) review this document in conjunction with a thorough site review of the subject structure before providing their cost to perform the work to the owner. The engineer is to be contacted with any questions related to the scope of work during the pricing and/or construction periods. Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 3 of 20 Scope of Work The structural remediation at Hastings Stadium is to include: 1. Installation of protective barriers around the work area to minimize the risk of damage due to the work and to restrict unauthorized access to the work area. 2. Removal of all steel corrosion products using light construction equipment (scraping, wire brush, blasting, etc.) to minimize the damage to the remaining steel. Clean surfaces to SSPC SP6. 3. Reinstallation of all damaged welds. 4. Minor structural steel repairs are required. Refer to the attached drawings. 5. Drill and epoxy new anchor bolts into existing base plates and piers. 6. Preparation and recoating of all exposed steel (rust removal, prime and painting). 7. Provide new uplift and steel bracing to extend the bracing from the top of the concrete block walls to grade. 8. Provide new guard system between the playing field and bleachers. 9. Update the interior storage mezzanine including stairs and guards. Note that all material and workmanship standards must meet the minimums noted on the certified drawing set. Contact Tacoma Engineers for clarification where required. TE-19163-11 March 2011

Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 4 of 20 Technical Requirements Work Item 1: Site protection 1.1 All work is to be carried out in conformance with the requirements of OHSA. 1.2 Installation of site protection is to be appropriate to the work in progress including physical barriers around the perimeter of the work area and all material storage areas. 1.3 Arrange for all required inspections to identify buried and embedded utilities in and around the work areas. Take appropriate measures to protect these items from damage. 1.4 Throughout construction, coordinate all required reviews with Project Engineer, City Representative (refer to cover page), and Municipal Building Department. Reviews will include, but are not limited to: identification of deterioration, removal of corrosion products, comprehensive welding inspection, inspection of new coatings, placing of reinforcing steel. Work Item 2: Removal of corrosion products 2.1 Remove all corrosion products from structural steel members including beams, columns, brackets, miscellaneous channels and angles, welds, and anchor bolts and nuts. 2.2 All structural steel and remaining welds are to be sandblasted to commercial blast standards. 2.2.1.1 Commercial Blast SSPC-SP6 (SSI-Sa2), or NACE #3 Definition: All oil, grease, dirt, rust scale and foreign matter are completely removed from the surface and all rust, mill scale and old paint are completely removed by abrasive blasting except for slight shadows, streaks or discolorations caused by rust stain, mill scale oxides or slight, tight resides of paint or coating that remain. If the surface is pitted, slight residue of rust or paint may be found in the bottom of pits; at least two-thirds of each square inch of surface area shall be free of all visible residues and the remainder shall be limited to the light residues mentioned above. Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 5 of 20 2.3 Contact Tacoma Engineers to review cleaned surfaces to identify any damaged areas not visible during previous reviews. Additional reinforcing and remedial work may be required. Work Item 3: Weld reinstatement 3.1 All welding to be carried out by personnel certified under the CWB. 3.2 Most of the welds connecting the bleacher decks to the structural steel are not adequate in either length or diameter, or both. These welds shall not be considered when applying the required weld connections. 3.3 Connect all members as follows: 3.3.1 Weld all structural steel connections all around, ¼ fillet weld, where noted on the drawings. 3.3.2 Weld all bleacher decks to supporting structural steel brackets with 3/16 fillet welds, 2 every 8, and 4 at each corner, or as noted on the drawings. Do not weld bleacher decks to supporting structure at expansion joints. 3.4 Coordinate with welding inspector (retained and paid for by the City) to have inspection completed and signed off by certified welding inspector. Work Item 4: Structural steel repairs 4.1 The column at gridline C6 has a substantial hole in the web. Repair as per detail 2/S7, attached. 4.2 Similar repairs may be required as directed by engineer following blast cleaning. Refer to 2.3. 4.3 Include the inspection of this item in the scope of inspection for the welding inspector noted in 3.3. Work Item 5: Anchor bolts 5.1 Existing anchor bolts along gridline C (field side) are corroded and have sustained loss of section. Drill and epoxy new anchor bolts as shown on attached drawings. Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 6 of 20 5.1.1 Anchor bolts to be ¾ diameter by 6 embedment stainless steel threaded rod (Hilti HAS rods or approved equivalent). 5.1.2 Epoxy to be Hilti HY-150 or approved equivalent. 5.2 New anchor bolts are required along the top of the block wall around the rear and sides of the building (gridlines 1, 9, and A). 5.2.1 Install ⅝ diameter stainless steel threaded rod anchors as per detail 5/S4, attached, to properly fasten the top steel girt. 5.2.2 If the block is found to be ungrouted along the top course, cast-in anchors are permitted in freshly placed grout. 5.2.3 Spot checks of the top course of block indicated that it was grouted solid. The contractor should note that the top course of block must be fully grouted prior to completion of the work, and if during the remedial work the blocks are found to be either ungrouted or incompletely grouted, it is the contractor s responsibility to grout the top course of block to ensure proper bond of the girt anchors. 5.2.4 Epoxy to be Hilti HY-150 or approved equivalent. Work Item 6: Recoating of exposed structural steel and welds 6.1 Existing structural steel 6.1.1 All existing steel to remain must be in good condition. If any loss of section or pitting further to that noted on the project drawings is identified, the engineer is to be consulted to determine whether repair or reinforcement is required. 6.1.2 As noted in 3.2.1, all structural steel and remaining welds are to be sandblasted to commercial blast standards. 6.1.2.1 Commercial Blast SSPC-SP6 (SSI-Sa2), or NACE #3 Definition: All oil, grease, dirt, rust scale and foreign matter are completely removed from the surface and all rust, mill scale and old paint are completely removed by abrasive blasting except for slight shadows, streaks or discolorations caused by rust stain, mill scale oxides or slight, tight resides of paint or coating that remain. Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 7 of 20 square inch of surface area shall be free of all visible residues and the remainder shall be limited to the light residues mentioned above. 6.1.3 Coat all blasted steel and welds with two coats Amercoat 68HS zinc-rich primer in accordance with manufacturer s written instructions. 6.1.4 Refer to 1/S7 for minimum extents of priming. 6.2 New structural steel and welds 6.2.1 New steel and welds are to be coated prior to onset of surface rust (recommended within 7 days of installation). 6.2.2 Coat all blasted steel and welds with two coats Amercoat 68HS zinc-rich primer, or approved equivalent, in accordance with manufacturer s written instructions. Work Item 7: New uplift and lateral bracing 7.1 Steel sidewall bracing is not adequately anchored to resist the lateral and uplift forces imposed by the environmental loads. Additional steel tie-downs and concrete piers and footings are required. 7.1.1 Excavate and install new footings as shown on drawings. Tie new footings to existing strip footing by drilling and epoxying 10M bars 6 into existing footing. 7.1.2 Install new concrete piers as shown on drawings. 7.1.3 Install new steel tension columns complete with cast-in anchor bolts to top of concrete pier. 7.1.4 Provide welded plate connection to existing steel column. 7.2 Install new X-bracing between new tension columns. 7.3 Backfill with granular A and compact to minimum 98% SPDD. 7.4 Provide shop drawings for all structural steel prior to fabrication. Work Item 8: New guard between field and bleachers 8.1 The existing guard is not performing as required by current design codes and standards. A new steel guard must be installed as per the attached drawings. 8.1.1 Remove the top three (3) courses of block from the existing guard. TE-19163-11 March 2011

Hastings Stadium Scope of Work Structural and Maintenance Remedial Work Page 8 of 20 8.1.2 Grout the top two (2) courses to ensure that moisture cannot penetrate the top of the block wall. 8.1.3 Provide floor deck extension from top of block wall to existing steel deck. 8.1.4 Install the new steel guard system as illustrated on the attached drawings. 8.1.5 The guard will be provided by the City. Contractor is responsible to coordinate installation of posts and footings with railing shop drawings prior to excavation. Work Item 9: Interior storage mezzanine upgrades 9.1 The existing mezzanine is not structurally adequate to support 4.80 kpa (100 psf) live load. Reinforce floor framing by doubling existing 2x8 joists (refer to attached plan). Provide a single row of blocking / bridging at mid-span. 9.2 Existing wood-framed stair does not meet OBC requirements. Remove and replace with new steel stairs in accordance with OBC 2006. Provide shop drawings prior to fabrication. 9.3 The existing guard does not meet current design standards. Remove and replace as shown on the attached drawings, S10. TE-19163-11 March 2011
