JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Education Support Officer (ESO) Purpose: To support behaviour management strategies for students in the school and wider areas of school life under the direction of the DHT Student development and Well-Being, Senior Progress Coordinators and Year Lead Progress Coordinators. To support students to overcome their barriers to learning and maximise the opportunities provided for them through targeted supervision and support in the school s behaviour inclusion provision. To support students who may be exhibiting behavioural, emotional or social problems in school to achieve their full potential. To provide targeted support in line with the school s improvement priorities for students whose progress and attainment are being impacted by engagement and behaviour issues. To be responsible for maintaining up-to-date and accurate computerised records relating to behaviour. To provide administrative support in the implementation of the behaviour management policy for the school. Reporting to: Senior Progress Coordinators - deployment Year Lead Progress Coordinators - day to day management / student related issues Deputy Headteacher Behaviour and Attendance Responsible for: N / A Liaising with: Students Senior Progress Coordinators Year Lead Progress Coordinators Staff Students and Parents / Carers Visitors and external agencies Working Time: 37 hours a week Term time only Equivalent to 38 weeks

MAIN (CORE) DUTIES The specific duties and responsibilities pertaining to the Engagement and Support Officer are to be read in conjunction with the School s Attendance Policy, Behaviour Management Policy and related Protocols which should be complied with at all times. Support for Students To monitor behaviour, emotional and social issues of identified students across year groups alongside the Senior Progress Coordinators and Year Leads and make positive interventions as directed. To supervise and support students in the behaviour inclusion suite on rota and as requested providing students with appropriate curriculum study materials supplied by teaching staff. To liaise with the DHT and Senior Progress Coordinators to schedule internal exclusions. To communicate scheduled internal exclusions with students, staff and parents keeping an electronic record of internal exclusions served. To remove students from lessons who are experiencing difficulties where this is appropriate, supporting staff with 111 and shadow timetable arrangements. To identify personal issues that are affecting students performance at school and share this information with relevant staff in order to help the student maintain curriculum progress. To help support individual behaviour support plans and monitor their success. To attend behaviour and attendance review meetings as requested and appropriate. To contribute to developing a positive ethos within year groups and promote the positive behaviour code for students. To work in partnership with Learning Mentors and Year Lead progress coordinators to raise the self-esteem of all students across the school. To support the implementation and delivery of proactive behaviour support mentoring systems within the year groups across the school. To identify and contribute to adoption of best practice across the school in all areas of pastoral care and behaviour management support. To monitor and report on data provided by the SIMs system on a weekly, termly and annual basis. To provide information on individual and group behaviour patterns through data analysis and review. To support the scheduling of detentions and support follow up with students who do not attend. To communicate scheduled detentions with students, staff and parents, when required. To liaise with Year Leads and the resources technician regarding the production of Merit and House Point displays and certificates for Assemblies and corridor display. To articulate and support the school rules and dress codes with all students and their parents in the year group and across the school.

Inter-Agency Working To initiate contact with other agencies, where appropriate, on behalf of the school and parent/carers and to liaise with all parties on a regular basis under the direction of the Senior Progress Coordinator and Year Leads. To represent the school when requested at inter-agency or other professional meetings. To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up to date student information on the school s management information system. Exclusions To support the student internal exclusion process by ensuring sufficient and appropriate work is made available to students during a student s exclusion. Administration To ensure that all protocols and procedures implemented compliment the whole school systems in place with discussion initiated with the Deputy Headteacher and Business Manager as appropriate. To undertake any other appropriate duties, as requested by the school, to assist with the efficient running of the School s support services. Essential Skills & Qualification Experience of working in an educational setting with students Experience of working with students who display challenging behaviours Demonstrable experience of working with young people and families Experience of working in a multi agency setting (desirable) An understanding of the specialist support services available to young people from the local authority Experience of supporting SEND students Experience of trouble shooting pastoral issues in a relevant setting Good working knowledge and understanding of IT and ability to use wordprocessing, spreadsheet and database software Holds relevant professional qualification in education, youth or social work Other relevant experience of working in the police, youth offending or health sector that would demonstrate an ability to inspire young people. Behaviour management training (desirable) Has a thorough understanding of child protection legislation and trained in child protection issues Has attended a range of relevant training courses to develop own knowledge of issues affecting young people and best practice in the management of these issues. Holds First aid at work qualification or willingness to undergo first aid training. (Desirable)
