RISER PIPES
Johnson enjoys today an enviable reputation with drilling and water industry professionals as the exclusive designer and manufacturer of wire-wrapped screens. In addition to our skills and know-how in the area of well equipment, we offer a wide variety of products and services for your well completions. We now offer a real step forward in reliability with our newly designed riser pipes. 02
RISER PIPES The physical parameters of depth and diameter, along with pump pressure and water quality, are the main factors determining the choice of riser pipe and the type of connecting fitting. This choice is vital, as the site's productivity, longevity and sustainability depend on it. For aggressive or corrosive waters, our pipes can be manufactured either in steel, with an epoxy or Rilsan coating, or in AISI 304L or 316L stainless steel. Other, more sophisticated grades, may be used on request. STAINLESS STEEL This material offers the advantage of guaranteeing the longevity of the riser column. The pipes can be pickled and passivated to increase resistance to corrosion. Passivation enhances the formation of a protective metallic oxide layer. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CONNECTING FITTING Each connecting fitting has its advantages and specific features, particularly over flanged joints, which can be only used effectively for large-diameter wells and take longer to install. Johnson Screens TUBEXOR and ZSM connecting fittings enable: installations in small-diameter wells, quick and easy assembly and disassembly, providing significant savings in labour and associated hoisting equipment. These two types of connecting fitting make it possible to reduce significantly the problems linked to using Gas or API-type threaded stainless steel pipes. The slightly tapered profile of the TUBEXOR associated with a nonstick surface treatment make disassembly easier. TUBEXOR FITTINGS Our threaded male and female TUBEXOR connecting fittings have the following characteristics: A slightly conical threading with an 8 mm pitch enables fast screwing and unscrewing without risk of crossing the first threads A tapered, metal-to-metal, internal stop prevents over-tightening and ensures watertightness Tightening by wrench on the connecting fitting eliminates the need to grip the pipe Casing clamp can be placed under the female end Surface treatment (on male thread) by carbon migration significantly increases the hardness of the stainless steel, reducing the risk of sticking. WATERTIGHTNESS The threaded ends are fitted with tapered contact faces. The male end self-centers in the female end. Precision machining lets you obtain the required degree of watertightness. Johnson recommends that you grease the threads (with edible grease) for large-diameter connecting fittings. MECHANICAL STRENGTH Added thickness makes these fittings very difficult to deform and provides excellent traction resistance. HYDRAULIC FEATURES The TUBEXOR connecting fitting is machined to the ID of the pipe. This design: avoids cavitation at high circulation rates minimises load losses. ZSM FITTINGS EASE OF INSTALLATION The innovation and reliability of Johnson Screens ZSM connecting fittings mark major milestone in reliability, offering the following features: Four grooves are machined in the circumference of the male end Two O-rings ensure watertightness of the assembly A stud located on the male end that fits into a slot in the female end neutralizes torsional stress when the pump starts up SPEED SAVINGS The time savings at assemblydisassembly are significant compared with traditional columns. Space savings also make it possible to equip smaller-diameter wells. Fitting OD Two elongated holes in the female end introduce flexible retaining rings into each intermediate groove to take up traction forces. PLASMA-WELDED FLANGE CONNECTING FITTINGS For the very high pressure of deep wells Notches in the flange for passing casing Easy assembly Pipe flange assembly by local melting with an electric arc, without any filler metal, enables complete weld penetration and limits the risk of corrosion. This process has been qualified by VERITAS Welding process makes it possible to obtain very high traction strengths As a general rule, the flanges used are of the collar flange type (INSI B16-5), the faces of which are machined according to the types of seal used: either simple concentric grooves, 125µ deep, or grooves for O-rings Reduced-diameter flanges can be used.
