USING THIS PRODUCT IN A MANNER THAT IS INCONSISTENT WITH THE LABEL MAY BE AN OFFENCE. FOLLOW THE CODE OF PRACTICE FOR USING PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS. MAPP 12200 ---------------------------------------------(Start of label leaflet)--------------------------------------- DIRECTIONS FOR USE IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product. Restrictions Do not apply later than the grain watery ripe stage of crop growth. Do not apply to crops under stress. Do not apply during frosty weather Do not apply PLUTON more than twice to a wheat or barley crop. PLUTON should not be applied during frosty weather or high temperatures or drought conditions. Applications under such conditions may result in some scorch. The occurrence of rain within two hours of application may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Disease Control PLUTON is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide with eradicant and protectant activity against a wide range of diseases of wheat and barley. PLUTON controls Septoria tritici, Septoria nodorum, Rhynchosporium, net blotch, powdery mildew and yellow and brown rusts. Its two active ingredients have different modes of action and the mixture will help prevent the development and build-up of some strains of resistant fungi. Disease control in cereals can be achieved by a routine programme of preventative spray 3

treatments or by regular monitoring of crops and spraying only when diseases are building up. PLUTON is suitable for both these disease control systems. Crops PLUTON can be used for broad-spectrum disease control on all varieties of winter wheat, winter barley and spring barley. Timings PLUTON can be applied once or twice at any time before beginning of anthesis for winter wheat or up to and including emergence of ear complete for barley. Disease control is generally more effective if PLUTON is applied at an early stage of disease development. Winter Wheat and Winter Barley Control of leaf and ear diseases is most effective if PLUTON is applied in the spring or early summer when the diseases are present in small amounts and before they spread to new growth. Application can be repeated after 3-4 weeks if necessary. Programmed applications made soon after flag-leaf emergence and again at ear emergence are particularly effective in controlling leaf diseases of winter wheat. Spring Barley Apply PLUTON when diseases are first evident in the crop and, if necessary, repeat this application 3-4 weeks later. Volume and application PLUTON should be applied in 200-450 litres of water/ha using conventional spraying equipment to give good, even coverage of the crop. Use the higher water volume where the crop is dense. Apply as a MEDIUM spray, as defined by BCPC. Dose For the control of Septoria, Rhynchosporium, net blotch, mildew and rust, apply PLUTON at 1.0 litre/ha. Resistance When fungicides with the same mode of action are used repeatedly over several years in the same field, naturally occurring less sensitive strains may survive, propagate and become dominant in that field. A pathogen is considered resistant to a fungicide if it survives a correctly applied treatment at the recommended dose and timing, under normal weather conditions. Development of resistance within a pathogen can be avoided or delayed by alternating or mixing products having a different mode of action. PLUTON contains a DMI fungicide. Resistance to some DMI fungicides has been identified in Septoria leaf blotch (Mycosphaerella graminicola) which may seriously affect the performance of some products. For further advice on resistance management in DMI s contact your agronomist or specialist advisor, and visit the FRAG-UK website The Fungicide Resistance Action Committee has produced guidelines on the management 4

and avoidance of fungicide resistance. Details of these can be obtained from your supplier or DuPont. Mixing PLUTON MUST BE SHAKEN WELL BEFORE USE. Half fill the spray tank with clean water and start the agitation. PLUTON mixes easily with water and should be added directly to the spray tank as filling continues. Wash out containers at least twice and add washings to the spray tank. Continue agitation during filling and when spraying. Wash equipment thoroughly after use. Compatibility For tank-mix compatibility information on wheat and barley, please consult the DuPont compatibilities product manual insert. Spray tank clean-out Immediately after application, completely drain spray equipment Thoroughly rinse sprayer and flush the hoses, boom nozzles with clean water. Loosen and physically remove visible deposits. Remove and clean nozzles, screens and strainers. Flush the entire system with clean water. Take all necessary safety precautions when cleaning equipment. Do not clean near wells or water sources. Dispose of waste rinse water in accordance with local regulations.
