PRODUCT DATA SHEET Water resistant, S.B.R. bonding agent and mortar additive PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Sika Latex is a modified styrene butadiene emulsion that is mixed normally with cement to form a bonding slurry. It can also used as an additive to improve adhesion and water resistance properties of cement and sand mortar. USES As a bonding agent for rendering, tile fixing and masonry jointing mortars, etc. As a bonding grout between old and new concrete, as well as in construction joints As an additive to repair mortars for patching and filling For higher strength floor screeds with less dusting, improved flexibility and resistance to cracking. For wear resistant toppings in water treatment works, sewage systems, etc. CHARACTERISTICS / ADVANTAGES Increases adhesion, flexural and tensile strength Improves abrasion resistance (less dusting) Improves water resistance Improves chemical resistance No-toxic, non-corrosive and non-flammable Easy to use Does not re-emulsify even in high alkaline conditions 1/6

SURFACE QUALITY The substrate must be sound, clean and free from oils, grease or surface contaminants. Remove any loose material and laitence using a scabbling machine or mechanical abrasion. Absorbent surfaces should be saturated thoroughly, but leave no puddles of water. 3/6
MATERIALS Cement should be fresh OPC. Sand should be well graded, clean and thoroughly washed. Sand particle sizes should correspond to the thickness of mortar to be applied and required surface finish. Application thickness Up to 2 mm Grain Size Diameter Up to 0.5 mm 2 5 mm Up to 1.0 mm 5 15 mm Up to 3.0 mm Over 15 mm Up to 7.0 mm APPLICATION METHOD/TOOLS 1.) Bonding Slurry Mix 1 part of Sika Latex with 1 part of fresh cement to a creamy consistency. Apply the bonding slurry generously and vigorously with a stiff brush to the pre-wetted and prepared substrate. Subsequent mortar must then be applied while the bonding slurry is still tacky. 2.) Mortar Mix cement and sand first, then add Sika Latex diluted with water (refer to the Mix Design Guide). Mix either by hand or with low speed drill for no more than 2 minutes. Mortar topping should be finished by wood float or steel trowel. Care should be taken to prevent rapid drying of Sika Latex mortars, by the use of polythene or concrete curing compounds. Maximum thickness is 40mm/layer SERVICE TEMPERATURE + 5 o C min. SUBSTRATE TEMPERATURE + 5 o C min. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE + 5 o C min. 4/6
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS NOTES ON APPLICATION / LIMITATIONS CLEANING OF TOOLS Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be mechanically removed. Do not use neat Sika Latex as a bonding agent without adding cement. Always keep the water / cement ratio to a minimum to enable correct workability and compaction. Over dilution of Sika Latex solution is not recommended as this will result in very little performance improvement. Sika Latex mortars should not be over mixed to avoid excessive airentrainment. The higher performance forced action paddle type mixers are recommended for more efficient and speedier mixing of the mortars. Ensure hardened layers are mechanically Keyed, wetted and grouted. Trial mixes are always recommended so that mix proportions and workability can be optimised to suit the particular requirements of the application. Sika Latex mortar is not resistant to constant contact with petrol, organic solvents and acids. VALUE BASE LOCAL RESTRICTIONS All technical data stated in this are based on laboratory tests.
