Course Development/Workshops/Technology Transfer/Professional Activities In addition to teaching activities, developed and offered various short courses in the area of sustainable rehabilitation design of infrastructure using advanced composites. Published related book, journal and conference articles that have direct impact on code/specification activities. Helped community by employing cost-effective building/bridge evaluation and sustainable rehab. 1

ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE -ENERGY EFFICIENT CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE AND SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION WITH NATURAL/ADVANCED MATERIALS- ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE Along with following courses, provided several guest lectures on Green Energy and Water Conservation in residential and commercial construction buildings to Graduate CEE courses. Graduate Courses (MS & Ph.D.) CE-768/CE791A: Design of Structures with FRP Composites as an interdisciplinary course in the area of advanced civil infrastructure materials (micro- and macro-mechanics, durability, and polymer engineering) for past ten years to students from the Departments of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Dept. Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. Undergraduate Courses (B.S.) Capstone Course (CE 479): Taught the sustainable construction and green building design in CEE Capstone Design course at WVU. The capstone course is an integrated design approach, where students have created independent design and development projects for designing a green school building to accommodate 500 elementary students in Monongalia County, WV, which is actually constructed and in operation since 2013 near the intersection of Mileground Road and Rt. 705 of Morgantown, WV. Following topics are included. i. Sustainable construction for residential, commercial, and school buildings (structural design for normal and special loads) ii. Green materials and green design for sustainable construction iii. Green roof and wall systems with high R-values iv. Active and passive design for energy efficient design (geothermal, wind, solar, and Trombe wall) v. Clean and efficient air flow for occupant health vi. Use of dual water supply schemes for interior and exterior design vii. Minimum site disturbance and parking provisions viii. USGBC principles and LEED ratings ix. Several field visits by students to large (~50,000 sq. ft) green buildings and, x. Interaction with green building construction experts and others. Introduction to CADD (CE 210): Taught CADD design and BIM concepts using AutoCad Civil 3D and Microstation. Used CAD as a design tool for developing surface profiles, pavement corridors, and AASHTO governed speed limit design for horizontal curves. RESEARCH WORK/EXPERIENCE Green and Sustainable / Advanced Infrastructural Material Externally funded and nationally competitive research grants and contracts and interdisciplinary efforts with faculty from other Departments such as Chemical Engineering (ChE), Mechanical and Aerospace (MAE), and Industrial Engineering (IE). Green Building Wall Panel which is ASTM tested with high fire resistance of 1700F. The panels are being utilized in the new Green Eastwood School building of Morgantown, WV. (2011-2012) Natural fiber and natural resin based composites for application as construction materials. (2010-2011) Sustainable repair and rehabilitation of building and bridge infrastructure using advanced composite wraps (over 12 bridges with about 60 piles and beams) (2010) Non-destructive load testing and evaluation using Infrared Thermography (IR) techniques to evaluate and provide sustainable and energy saving rehabilitation schemes for restoring 80-100 year old school buildings in Preston and Gilmer Counties, WV, (2009-2010). Rehabilitation of 80 year old timber railroad bridge piles in Moorefield, WV using sustainable practices with the help of advanced glass polymer composites at a fraction of replacement costs (2010) USA-Canada Joint Group of technical experts on developing first draft specifications and design guidelines for the use of fiber-reinforced plastics in concrete structures. Specifications developed were presented at American Concrete Institute (ACI) sponsored joint-committee meeting held at Montreal, Canada. These guidelines were further developed as current ACI 440.1.R.03. (1996) Specification development of (external) FRP reinforcement for concrete structures as a part of the document prepared by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, 1999). Design methodologies for designing concrete structures reinforced with external carbon fabric reinforcement, Tonen Corporation Design Manual, Japan (1995). Short-courses in the design and application of advanced composites for infrastructure facilities to practicing engineers and professionals from various federal and state highway engineers, private firms, and academicians in conferences and workshops (1999-current). 3

AREAS OF PAST/CURRENT ACADEMIC/RESEARCH ACTIVITIES Infrastrucutre/Construction Material Development/Evaluation Thermo-mechanical characterization (bending, tension, compression, impact, rupture, and hardness) at coupon, component, and system levels with static and fatigue loads for green construction materials, conventional materials, and recycled thermoplastics for sustainable infrastructure applications. Evaluation of thermo-mechanical properties, bond strength, failure modes and durability of GFRP/ CFRP bars and wraps to provide sustainable solutions to bridge and highway infrastructure problems. Evaluation and screening of different thermoset resins for use as matrix material in Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) bars in terms of strength, stiffness, knock-down factors and durability under varying ph, temperature (including freeze-thaw) and sustained stress. Characterization of aged and non-aged polymeric resins through Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA). Bending and shear behavior of concrete beams reinforced with steel and GFRP bars under static and fatigue loads. Ductility/deformability indices, knock-down factors of concrete beams reinforced with steel and rehabilitated with FRP for sustainable field implementation. Accelerated and natural aging behavior of GFRP and CFRP bars/wraps with nanoclay. Bond behavior of bundled steel bars. Instrumentation and automatic data acquisition of test specimens at nano-, milli-, and macroscales. Construction Component or System Development, Manufacturing and Evaluation Developing, manufacturing (industrial- and small- scale), and evaluating natural fiber reinforced building wall panels, nanocomposite reinforcing bars, recycled offset polymer blocks, signboards, signposts, pavement panels, recycled wood and polymer railroad ties (at WVU). Sustainable strengthening/rehabilitation of infrastructure (concrete beams, columns, bridge piers and wing walls) by FRP fabric bonding. Strengthening of concrete beams bonded with steel plates for flexural strength enhancement. Behavior of CFRP fabric wrapped concrete cylinders. Creep behavior of concrete beams reinforced with steel and GFRP bars. Bending and shear-lag behavior of concrete T- beams reinforced with steel and GFRP bars. Aging and creep behavior of concrete beams strengthened by CFRP fabrics. Accelerated and natural aging behavior of concrete beams reinforced with GFRP bars. Bending behavior of steel stringers bonded with CFRP plates under static and fatigue loads. Bending behavior of concrete beams reinforced with bundled steel bars. Accelerated and natural aging behavior of steel beams bonded with CFRP plates. Behavior of concrete beams reinforced with MMFX steel bars. Non-destructive evaluation and rehabilitation of corroded soccer stadium structure (RC) with a capacity of 60,000 people. Non-destructive evaluation of prestressed girders in textile mills over boilers. Evaluation of prestressed girders cracked during manufacturing process. Evaluation of beams reinforced with nanoclay GFRP bars. Evaluation of FRP dowels and steel for jointed concrete pavements (JPCP) and continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP). Analytical/FE Modeling of Infrastructure System FE modeling of constructed infrastructure systems for thermo-mechanical responses: bending, tensile, compressive, shear, impact response (stresses and deformations) of concrete, steel, timber, and FRP structures subjected to in-plane and out-of-plane loading at material, component, and system level. Laboratory Evaluations of Infrastructure Conventional and advanced material testing at coupon, component, and system levels using static and fatigue loads on various types of frames and support systems. Instrumentation and automatic data acquisition of test specimens at nano-, milli-, and macro-scales. Concrete laboratory evaluations and NDE. 4

I have been providing ideas by actively participating as a civil engineering faculty member with PE license and supplementing their activities with Green Building design knowledge. Provided pro bono professional service to local community (e.g., 80-100 yr. old building evaluation). Visited North Elementary School, Morgantown, WV to help the students on Bridge project concepts as per the request of WV Research Corp.
