Who are Polyfoam? Polyfoam Australia Pty Ltd is the creator, manufacturer and proud supplier of the POLYWALL system. We were established in 1986 by Mr. Bruce Pickett, and are based in Melbourne, Victoria. The core business is manufacturing expanded polystyrene packaging for produce and specialty products. Since our inception, Polyfoam have remained one of the larger converters of EPS in Australia. We have continued to grow and diversify our range, whilst at the same time expanding into other states and territories. The Polyfoam Australia now operates at facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart. Polyfoam continues to be an Australian family owned and operated company. It takes pride in its work and workforce, and continues to strive to lead the industry in social and environmental responsibility. Polyfoam is committed to providing world-class quality products and services that not only meet but exceed customer expectations. Polyfoam and the Environment Polyfoam Australia is dedicated to the continual improvement of its methods and practices to reduce its impact on the environment, as well as providing a service by which clean foam products can be recycled. Polyfoam Australia is a member of REPSA (Recycling Expanded Polystyrene Australia). Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) products consist of approximately 98% air, and only 2% polystyrene. This explains why EPS is so lightweight. These products are made from styrene, which is a byproduct of crude oil extraction. The manufacturing process requires the use of pentane gas. This gas has no effect on the ozone layer and is not considered to be hazardous to our health. Steam is then used, which causes the pentane within the tiny styrene bead to expand and allows the expanded beads to be moulded into the required shapes. Water used in this process is filtered and reused many times. Polystyrene products do not contain CFCs, and therefore have no effect on the ozone layer. There are also no harmful by-products created in this process. For recycling purposes, Polyfoam will take back any clean uncontaminated product for regenerating into other products we produce, so the life cycle of our polystyrene continues and our product does not end up in landfill sites. Please note that this service is only available to current Polyfoam customers and strictly only by prior arrangement.
Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) ICF (Insulating Concrete Formwork) systems provide a fast, strong, economical and environmentally-friendly method of building single and multi-level houses, retaining walls, fences, swimming pools, or any other structure that utilizes strong, reinforced concrete walls. An ICF structure consists of expanded polystyrene panels and reinforced concrete. POLYWALL is erected onsite, and can be filled with concrete to a height of three metres in a single pour when used with the correct bracing and pouring techniques. The POLYWALL ICF System POLYWALL consists of expanded polystyrene panels joined together via plastic bridges to form a hollow block. These blocks interlock together to form the homes insulation and formwork for the concrete. Steel reinforcement is added as each row of blocks is constructed, concrete is then poured directly into the formwork to give a reliable, long lasting and supportive wall structure.
How Insulation Works Insulation is essential to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. A well insulated home limits the exchange of hot and cold air through your home and will save you with greatly reduced energy costs. POLYWALL is unlike a conventional timber or steel frame construction as there is no cavity through which moving hot and cold air can pass. Instead you have the solid mass of concrete backed on both sides by high insulating polystyrene, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer, meaning a comfortable home that saves you money. Using POLYWALL ICF on your home will provide a number of benefits: Correctly installed POLYWALL ICF will keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer. This will make your home more comfortable to live in. POLYWALL can save money on your heating and cooling bills. When compared to a standard brick veneer home, a POLYWALL home will require less energy for heating and cooling, to maintain the same comfort conditions inside. Using POLYWALL on your home helps the environment. By reducing the amount of energy required to heat and cool your home, you will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other pollutants which are released into our atmosphere. The POLYWALL system will dramatically reduce the effects of external noise sources, creating a comfortable and quiet living environment.
POLYWALL Saving Energy, Saving Money POLYWALL can be one of the most effective systems you can use to build your home from to improve its energy efficiency. Insulation works by creating a barrier to heat transfer through the walls. In summer it helps keep your home cooler by reducing the amount of heat entering your home. In winter it helps keep your home warmer by trapping the warm air inside. For best results, all ceilings, walls and raised floors should be insulated. POLYWALL has a high R value, meaning a greater resistance to heat transfer. The climate where you live and the design of your home will have an influence on this value. Polywall will help you achieve fantastic design possibilities without compromising your comfort whilst saving you money through its insulating properties. Strong, Safe and Secure with POLYWALL The POLYWALL system is a concrete wall sandwiched between two layers of high density polystyrene, providing high insulation for a comfortable environment and a remarkably solid and secure investment for your family. Concrete homes have a proven track record of withstanding the ravages of high wind and fires, when all the timber framed houses around them are in ruins. Polywall is manufactured entirely from products which do not contain any CFC s, all components are inert and fully recyclable. Fast, effective, safe and easy to use POLYWALL will ensure you a quality home completed on time. Some of the POLYWALL benefits Flat packed for easy and efficient transport.
