BUILD OWN OPERATE AGREEMENT FROM EVOQUA HELPS CHEMICAL PLANT MAXIMIZE RELIABILITY The raw river water treatment system that this Gulf Coast facility had been self-operating for 40 years had become a bottleneck for plant production. The labor-intensive system utilized warm lime softening pretreatment technology. As part of a 15-year agreement, Evoqua implemented a turnkey water treatment solution that featured a new, compact, highly automated, 3,400 gpm ultra-filtration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO) system that is achieving 99.9% reliability. A portion of the RO product water is now polished downstream by the plant-owned demineralizer system for use in its boilers. The remaining water is used in the plant s cooling towers and other support processes. Benefits: Enhanced ability to adapt to environmental changes as well as prevent outages due to predictive analysis of feedwater data completed by Evoqua Improved water quality has allowed for significant savings on boiler feedwater demineralization costs Reduced costs for maintenance and cleaning of equipment that utilizes the process water EVOQUA HELPS POWER GENERATION OPERATION FIND NON-TRADITIONAL WATER SOURCE This East Coast combined-cycle plant required high-quality demineralized water to increase power output and control the NOx emissions from its gas turbines. Lacking a nearby source of suitable water or a place to discharge wastewater, the operation faced major challenges in providing the treated water it required. As part of a 10-year contract with Evoqua, the plant s needs are now being met by piping low hardness municipal wastewater effluent 12 miles into a system designed, built, owned, and operated by Evoqua. The treatment system consists of activated carbon filtration, double-pass RO, and mixed bed deionization technology. Benefits: Elimination of the risks associated with self-operating treatment systems including the need for on-site chemical storage and related hazards Reduced costs through reuse of RO reject water in the plant s cooling towers 7

OUTSOURCING WATER MANAGEMENT TO EVOQUA ALLOWS REFINERY TO REDUCE OPERATING COSTS AND IMPROVE MAKEUP WATER QUALITY Using up to 1,500 gpm of demineralized boiler makeup water, this West Coast operation had limited capital to address a growing list of problems that included aging demineralizers, pending environmental legislation, excessive operating costs, and wide variations in raw water quality. Three months after completing a thorough on-site assessment, Evoqua provided an integrated energy-water management solution consisting of carbon filtration, sodium softening, and RO. Benefits: Reduced refinery s operating costs by $100,000 per month Lowered demineralizer waste volume by 93% Increased water quality resulted in improved boiler reliability Waste is conserved and energy consumption reduced by using the RO reject water for cooling tower makeup Reduced boiler maintenance costs. 210 Sixth Avenue, Suite 3300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 +1 (866) 926-8420 (toll-free) +1 (978) 614-7233 (toll) www.evoqua.com Link2Site is a trademark of Evoqua, its subsidiaries or affiliates, in some countries.
