Information Is KING! Real-Time information is Power! Motorist Receives: Accurate Real Time information provided at a place and time where motorists can best use to make an educated decision is the goal! Engineer/State Receives: State engineers receive accurate data that can be utilized for superior system planning. 2

Permanent ITS Systems are Wonderful Permanent ITS Systems work. We all know the benefits of permanent ITS: Increased Safety Increased Mobility Data Collection Video Surveillance What do you do when permanent ITS is not available or feasible? 3

Smart Workzone Systems! Smart Workzone Systems can provide EVERYTHING a permanent system does with the additional benefit of true mobility. Utilize Portable ITS Systems in workzone. Also, utilize Portable ITS Systems for any reoccurring congestion: Sporting events College Football NASCAR Weekends Busy beach weekends Amusement Park traffic Any high congestion area! You decide where this powerful system can benefit you. 4

What is a Smart Workzone System? Use of technology to support effective work zone management and operations Used both in and around work zones Can have safety or mobility as main focus but often support both Portable and temporary in most cases May be leased or purchased 5

Configuration of Basic System Essential components: CMS, Queue Trailer, Digital Communications, Customized Web Site and Software. All Portable, Solar Powered, Wireless Communication. That is it! 6

7

Project Webpage Systems are available through a personally assigned web page for the project. Systems are all user name and password controlled. Systems are 100% automated intended to run free from any active DOT involvement. Systems can be overridden by DOT personnel provided their username provides administrator status. Data graphing/charting available anytime. Device searching- through device name or location. Project webpage expandability- i.e.. NHDOT No 3 rd Party plug-ins- webpage will function identical on desktop, laptop or PDA. 8

What other Technology can be Utilized? Most any existing permanent ITS components in the area (Extend Real-Time Message). Additional components include Mobile Video Trailer, Variable Speed Limit Trailer, HAR, CB Wizard, Con Sam, and Pagers. 9

More Benefits Can now be integrated into DOT existing software backbone. Message Board voltage levels can be displayed on webpage Automated alerts through email, page to anyone who wants the ability to proactively manage the system roadway such as detected backups, travel time etc. All collected data is yours! Presently my firm will make all data collected by the system available to you in format you would like. User can add, remove, revise system webpage without assistance- especially helpful in emergency or rapid deployment. 10

Ideal Message Scenarios Real-time information Motorists receive relevant real time information at a location they can act on it. Alternate Routing Speed Differential Travel Time thru wz Speed thru wz Dynamic Merge System 11

System Integrity ASTI is most aware that if the displayed information is not in real-time and 100% accurate the system will quickly lose its effectiveness. ASTI has gone to great lengths to ensure the most reliable communication platform to ensure our proven CHIPS Software is displayed in absolute real-time. Updates can occur in as little as 1-2 seconds! Put time, date stamp on all messages Communication patent. 19

Why Use Smart Work Zone System? 1. Improve Safety Prevent Crashes Alert drivers to slowed or stopped traffic ahead or Clear incidents more quickly 2. Reduce congestion Monitor travel times Alert drivers to delays Provide drivers with alternate route info 20
