Director s Corner Prior to launching our first Raffle SM game, the St. Patrick s Day Raffle in January 2009, we looked closely at how other state lotteries positioned their raffle games. We applied those lessons to our own Raffle game and after careful consideration, decided that offering 250,000 tickets at $10 each with a $1 million top prize would work best in Oregon. Raffle game #1 sold out in 12 days, while our second offering went in 11 days. Raffle #3 exhausted all 250,000 tickets in only 10 days. And the recent 4th of July Raffle saw its entire allotment of tickets get into players hands in 14 days! With the repeated fast sell outs, many Oregonians were waiting too long to buy tickets and were not able to get in on the Raffle fun. A recent survey on our Web site told us that 53 percent of the responding core players were not able to buy Raffle tickets before they all sold out. With that in mind, the Thanksgiving Raffle launching Sept. 26 will be twice as big! Every aspect of the new Thanksgiving Raffle will be doubled - 500,000 tickets, two $1 million top prizes, 20 prizes of $20,000 and 2,000 prizes of $100. The great news for your players is that the ticket cost remains the same - $10! Even though 500,000 tickets will be available, don t forget to remind your players that tickets are still limited. Whether we adopt this new Raffle configuration for future Raffle games is yet to be seen. Each of our Raffle games have been evaluated, and we will also evaluate the success of our upcoming Thanksgiving Raffle, in its twiceas-big form. In the meantime, be sure to remind your customers to get their Thanksgiving Raffle tickets while they can! Two winners will get their $1 million Thanksgiving wish! Retailer Survey Results Thanks to your responsiveness, the Oregon Lottery has just completed its 2010 Retailer Survey process. In March 2010, survey packets were mailed to 3,899 retailers to be completed and returned by April 5, with a new option for retailers to complete the survey on the Internet. This year 1,457 surveys were returned, resulting in a return rate of 37.4 percent. This is a slight decrease from 2009, but remains at one of its highest levels. Of all the returned surveys, 11.7 percent were completed using the Internet. This year was also the second year we offered an incentive of a $100 drawing for each of the six sales areas. This year s six winners for the $100 drawing are: Area A - Rodeo Lanes Area B - Melrose Country Store Area C - Markum Inn Area D - Snug Harbor Bar & Grill Area E - Carly s Area F - Hoot Owl Market Overall Measures Please see the Combined Excellent and Good Responses chart for more information on overall measures. Oregon Lottery Web Site A new question about Web site visitation and player referral was also asked this year. Twenty five percent indicated that they visit the Oregon Lottery Web site, and 35 percent indicated that they refer players to the Oregon Lottery Web site. Our recently redesigned Web site offers valuable information on the good things the Lottery does for Oregon. Both players and retailers have access to easy-to-navigate pages for winning numbers, current jackpots, game demos, winners and information about Lottery promotions and contests. It is a good resource for you and your players. Future Online Communications Another new question was added this year to understand retailer interest in future online communications. Seventy-three percent of retailers mentioned they would prefer to complete the Retailer Survey on the Internet next year, and 75 percent responded that they would prefer to receive communications via e-mail. For those retailers who are interested in completing the survey over the Internet next year, the Oregon Lottery will continue to provide the option for the 2011 survey, by including the appropriate link in the survey packets that will be mailed out to all retailers in early March 2011. A Big Thank You The Oregon Lottery would like to thank all of you who participated in this year s Retailer Survey. We would also like to thank the retailers who have participated in other forms of Oregon Lottery research over the years. By continuing to participate in Oregon Lottery research projects such as these, we are able to better understand your changing needs. These projects also help us improve the services we provide you, and better meet the needs of your players.
