Conduct an internal total cost of ownership analysis to gain a comprehensive view of the cost differences between deploying in the cloud or on-premise. SITUATION ANALYSIS Caring with excellence Facing the decision to upgrade Liberty Healthcare Management is a family-owned healthcare company based in Wilmington, NC that has a strong commitment for caring with excellence. Since 1870, the McNeill family has provided health care services in the region offering the communities they serve a complete senior care continuum close to home and family. Liberty Healthcare offers in-patient short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, hospice and respite care, dementia care, and out-patient care. Select centers offer assisted living. The organization has 3,874 employees and is made up of 21 healthcare and rehabilitation facilities, five assisted living facilities, 29 home health and hospice offices, 10 medical supply locations, one retail pharmacy, and various management companies spread across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Liberty Healthcare has been an Infor customer since 2009, when it migrated to Infor Lawson applications to help manage its growth. In 2012, Liberty Healthcare chose Infor Workforce Management to streamline its time and attendance processes and reduce unnecessary overtime. With additional functionality available through an upgrade, Liberty decided to continue with Infor to provide the ERP backbone of its operations. INNOVATION STRATEGY Making IT more strategic Implementing on time and under budget The decision to move to the cloud was centered on financial savings, freeing up resources, and increasing the ability to deliver better service to end users. As a first step in its decision-making process, Liberty Healthcare completed a total cost of ownership analysis. Moving to the cloud meant that Liberty Healthcare did not need to increase its headcount. In addition, now that Liberty Healthcare no longer needs to manage its hardware or purchase new systems every 3 to 4 years, it has freed up the equivalent of 2 full-time employees out of a team of 19. Liberty Healthcare s IT team can now focus on more strategic projects like enhancements to the existing application landscape, adding new solutions to address existing business challenges, and improving its data reporting and analysis. The IT team can also address performance issues faster by quickly informing Infor or Amazon Web Services of any issues, allowing IT to focus on communication to end users. Our implementation with Infor Consulting Services Center of Excellence (Infor ICS CoE) was phenomenal. We were on time throughout the entire process, and came in 15% to 20% under budget. Throughout the entire project we maintained the same resources from Infor Consulting Services Center of Excellence (ICS CoE) in Manila from start to finish and they essentially became an extension of Liberty. 15 % under-budget and on time implementation thanks to Infor Consulting Services (ICS). Implementing on time and under budget Liberty Healthcare partnered with Infor Consulting Services to upgrade and move its Infor applications to the cloud. With Infor Consulting Services Center of Excellence (Infor ICS CoE) handling its cloud migration, Liberty completed the project on time and 15% under budget. Thanks to ICS CoE, Liberty Healthcare s IT team was hands-off with the data migration process. Its only role was to test the system to make sure the processes were working. RESULTS Lowering costs in the cloud Detailed impact Value realized Since standardizing its workforce management processes with Infor Workforce Management, Liberty Healthcare is saving $1,134,782 each year in labor management costs. These high costs have been reduced now that Infor Workforce Management has helped Liberty Healthcare decrease its overtime costs by 49% overtime across all three nursing-staff types at its 29 locations. In addition, Infor Human Capital Management, specifically employee and manager self-service, have helped decrease the workload for Liberty Healthcare s human resources department. Each year, Liberty Healthcare processes 2,500 open enrollment forms. Since Infor has helped the healthcare organization move to electronic filing, the HR department has reduced its workload by 31.25 weeks, assuming a 40-hour work-week. Previously, completing the 2,500 paper forms during each year s open enrollment period, took 30 to 45 minutes for each form. Reducing hardware costs The cost structure of a cloud-hosted solution differs from the cost structure of an on-premise deployment. By moving to the cloud, Liberty Healthcare is saving $117,215 in cash expenditures over a 5-year period. Thanks to its move to the cloud, Liberty Healthcare no longer needs to purchase hardware, like such as servers or racks, and manage its hardware in virtual environments. Liberty Healthcare is also saving money by not having to operate facilities to store and manage its hardware. By not taking on hardware costs, Liberty Healthcare is not only saving money, but it can also redeploy or eliminate the costs that previously went toward database administration and technical IT resources. $318,548 saved in technical IT resources that support Infor applications, specifically a systems administrator over a 5 year period $65,730 reduction in hardware refresh costs by eliminating servers, virtual environments, and racks $66,308 in data center upkeep costs eliminated Customer Innovation Study: Liberty Healthcare Management, Inc. 8

LOOKING AHEAD Freeing up resources Moving to the cloud helped Liberty Healthcare reduce costs and free-up resources that it can now use to improve other areas of its business. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Liberty Healthcare is better positioned to address critical issues quickly, while also focusing on innovation. With Infor Business Intelligence providing improved insights into Liberty Healthcare s finances, the organization can focus on increasing its quality of care. Once fully in the cloud, Liberty Healthcare will be more agile and free of the many tactical and administrative IT duties that have previously kept this team from focusing on more strategic goals. As we ve grown and added more Infor products, it s become more difficult to host our solutions on-premise. We are looking to move to the latest version of Infor Workforce Management and when we do, we are definitely planning on hosting that in the cloud.
