Accordingly, EID invests over 10% of its turnover in R&D activities, which are carried out by a team of highly qualified electronics, software and communications engineers. Striving to achieve excellence in its domain of activity, EID has supplied numerous systems and equipment over the years, both at home and abroad. The export business is a significant share of the company turnover, thanks to the competitiveness and innovative character of EID products, as well as its flexibility to supply solutions tailored to meet the clients specific requirements. In fact, EID is active in multiple countries worldwide, with customers in Europe, Africa, South America, Middle East and in the Asia Pacific region. We are committed to provide full customer satisfaction, being proud of having developed trustfully, long lasting relationships with our business partners. Facing the challenges of the future with optimism and confidence, we will go on providing communications for excellent performance.
naval communications The coordination and management of warships assets is crucial to the success of naval operations. Communications play a vital role, providing the means for interchanging and gathering information in a network-centric environment. To cope with such demands, EID developed ICCS (Integrated Communications Control System), which provides secure and reliable communications for any type of warship, from patrol boats and submarines, to frigates and aircraft carriers. This state-of-the-art system is designed to enable an efficient control and management of the ship's overall communications, providing: flexible and fast switching of voice and data signals, either plain or secure; powerful internal communication capabilities; comprehensive COMPLAN management tools; and remote control of communications equipment, including continuous status monitoring. A powerful human interface, specifically developed for naval environments, turns the control and management of the ship's communications into a simple, trivial task. Compact, easy to operate user terminals enable simultaneous access to internal and external communication channels. User terminals with touch screen, graphic colour display are now available. A flexible system design enables a variety of system implementations, as far as the architectural aspects are concerned. Depending on the ship size and operational role, either centralised or fully distributed versions can be selected. ICCS is available in two variants. One, labelled ICCS5, resorts to TDM switching. The most recent one - ICCS6 - is an IP-based solution, with the same functionality as ICCS5 and featuring, in addition, access control of operators to the user terminals, encrypted data communications within the system and multi-level security. In brief, ICCS is the outcome of EID vast experience and solid know-how in the naval communications field. Moreover, long-term and fruitful relationships with a diversity of navies and multiple crews were quite helpful in designing one of the most proven, advanced systems of its kind available in the market. It is thus without surprise that ICCS can be found on board more than 150 warships of navies of several countries, such as Portugal, Spain, UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Indonesia, Algeria, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia.
tactical communications EID has a long tradition in the development and manufacturing of communications equipment, as well as in the design and deployment of communications systems, extensively used by our customers all over the world. EID is among the first manufacturers who engaged in the development of multi-band, multi-mode tactical radios. The result was the PRC-525, a software-defined radio covering the HF/VHF/UHF frequency ranges and featuring frequency hopping, embedded encryption, GPS, Automatic Link Establishment and IP capabilities. A wide range of accessories is available, from vehicular docking stations and linear power amplifiers to remote control units, antenna tuning devices and transportable repeater stations. The equipment has been standardized by the Portuguese Armed Forces, and is also in use in a variety of countries all over the world. The TWH-100 series is a complete range of personal radio equipment, including several types of gateways, chargers and headsets; the compact radio unit features a TDMA waveform offering simultaneous conference, GPS/Glonass location reporting and video transmission as well as multi-hop capability for range extension. To provide full integration of vehicular and command post communications, EID offers the compact, cost effective ICC-251 intercom system, and alternatively the ICC-201 Integrated Communications Centre, the latter being the optimal answer to the requirements of advanced vehicular and shelter-based applications. Both options enable communications among crew members as well as their voice and data access to radio equipment. In addition, ICC-201 provides Ethernet, optical fiber, telephone and wireless LAN interfaces and optionally a high performance IP router and an embedded computer to run user applications such as BMS, blue force tracking, messaging and VoIP call management in an extremely compact form factor. The system is configurable and upgradeable by means of a powerful, easy to use, management station. Thus ICC-201 may be deployed as a standard intercom system and/or a gateway for radio integration on military SIP Voice over IP networks with embedded call management. Our portfolio also includes the CD-116 and CD-116/IP switchboards, the core of a comprehensive range of products for military field communications. With a wide choice of configurations, the switchboards provide connectivity to radio equipment, data and voice terminals and analogue, ISDN and IP networks. Field Telephones and a complete set of accessories complement EID s offer. Designed according to military standards, these products operate with full specs in very harsh environments, such as desert and tropical regions.
military messaging EID built up unique expertise in the field of military messaging, having developed and supplied various generations of messaging systems for tactical and strategic environments. In fact, since 1985, EID delivered a large number of systems, from ACP127 compliant solutions to STANAG 4406/ACP123 systems. MOST4 MMHS is EID s latest generation of messaging systems, compliant with STANAG 4406, the most recent NATO standard for strategic and tactical Military Messaging Handling Systems. MOST4 MMHS provides an user interface very similar to the one found in modern commercial e-mail systems, while offering to defence organizations a formal, secure military messaging system, including: interoperability among NATO nations; confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation of origin and assurance of delivery; a Public Key Infrastructure and directory services. The tactical component of MOST4 MMHS complies with STANAG 4406, Annex E and, when used in naval, airborne and/or army mobile units, merges tactical and strategic networks into a single environment, where military messages may be exchanged independently of the location of the users. Gateways to legacy systems, such as ACP127, are also part of MOST4 MMHS, making it possible to deploy fully integrated solutions, thus coping with the slow transition from ACP127 to STANAG 4406. Software applications optimized for light terminals, namely ruggedized tablets, are also available, offering portable solutions which extend messaging services to the soldier. While waiting for the dissemination of STANAG 4406 solutions, EID is still offering MOST 4 Ships, an Automatic Message Handling System that provides a comprehensive set of facilities aimed at reducing the overheads of traditional on-board message management tasks. The system supports the simultaneous operation of ship-shore, inter-ship, local and area broadcast circuits, in accordance with ACP127 message formats and procedures. In brief, the know-how in the field of military messaging enables EID to offer products fully compliant with existing and emerging NATO standards, being at the same time totally interoperable with legacy systems that must be kept in operation during transition phases.
