Trane s Tracer ES solution Tracer ES is part of Trane s existing Integrated Comfort TM Solutions (ICS) strategy. The ICS strategy uses Trane s HVAC and controls expertise, building and energy management knowledge, and local service and support to bring you a truly comprehensive solution. We support you not only at the time of your initial purchase and installation, but throughout the entire life cycle of your system. Your Trane Sales representative will work with you to assure that a successful Tracer ES solution is designed and delivered! Software The Tracer ES software lives on a central server and is typically installed by a certified Trane controls installer. The purchase price of Tracer ES is based on the number of Trane or qualified non- Trane BACnet panels that are connected to the Tracer ES server. Tracer ES is robust software that is not only a systems integration platform, but also a platform for other knowledgebased software modules. These software modules bring additional value to your business by helping you manage other important facility management activities like energy usage, tenant services, and maintenance. Tracer ES meets your needs with a scalable and modular product that can grow as your business grows. Hardware Tracer ES hardware can be supplied by either Trane or the customer. There are some minimum specifications that need to be met for any Tracer ES installation. These specifications are found on the last page of this catalog. Implementation With every Tracer ES project, Trane will create a Design and Implementation Plan that will include all the components necessary to successfully implement a Tracer ES system. While each plan is unique, they all share common elements. These are: IT/networking Systems engineering Operational requirements IT/networking Tracer ES is a standard IT product. Both the Tracer ES server and the connected Trane and non-trane BACnet panels must live on a common IP network. Tracer ES generally resides on the intranet behind the corporate firewall, isolated from the Internet. Multiple-site connectivity is supported through the existing LAN or WAN. Remote access (for remote support or management purposes) is typically achieved by an existing IT-approved method, such as virtual private network (VPN) configuration or another remote access tool. Trane will work with your organization s IT personnel to understand the current IT/networking configuration and systems. With their expertise and guidance, Trane will provide recommendations on how to add a Tracer ES system effectively using your standard operations procedures. This guidance, and these recommendations, will be documented in Trane s Design and Implementation Plan so that your organization can be assured of a safe and secure system that can be easily maintained over time. Systems engineering Tracer ES can connect to both Trane and qualified non-trane BACnet devices, making it an excellent systems integration platform. Tracer ES provides one window into your entire facility or enterprise no matter how many systems you are using. The Tracer ES Design and Implementation Plan will include systems engineering documentation to identify and integrate any non-trane BACnet system that will be connected to the Tracer ES server. Operational requirements Tracer ES can be customized to meet the exact needs of your organization and users. Trane will interview the key administrative users to understand how many people will be using the system and what their roles and responsibilities are. This ensures that Tracer ES will be ready for them as soon as it is installed and commissioned. Maintenance and services agreements An annual maintenance program is included in every Tracer ES project to make sure that your Tracer ES software is updated and working at its best. Maintenance can be set up to be performed either manually or automatically through a remote connection. Also, with every Tracer ES project, you have access to Trane s fullservice product support portal, MyTraneControls. MyTraneControls is a resource for key product information, best practices, and training. It also provides access to premium support services like online and telephone access to our Product Support team and advance training classes. So, log on, learn, and chat with other Tracer ES users. You can feel comfortable knowing that immediate Tracer ES support is just a mouse click away! Additional Tracer ES maintenance and on-going support services are also available. Your local Trane Sales and Service representative will work with you to design a Maintenance and Services Agreement that meets your organization s specific needs for on-going support and training. Features and benefits Tracer ES is a Web-based facility management tool. It simplifies the management of building systems within multiple facilities for owners, managers, and daily operators. Users can access Tracer ES from any secure PC through a Web browser interface connected to the building enterprise network. Tracer ES accesses real-time system data and displays it through the user interface. Ease of operation The daily operator is the most critical user of the system. To optimize the daily user s experience, user-centered design principles were employed. Trane tested Tracer ES with many end-users to ensure a simple and intuitive design that makes operating Tracer ES easy to use. Site management Tracer ES site management features can help facility management personnel take a more proactive approach to site management. The building index, flexible search tool, and navigational aid features can significantly increase response time to address occupant issues across a large enterprise. Web browser The interface is easy to navigate and can be used effectively with very little training. The Tracer ES user interface lets you operate a multiple-building, facility management system from any secure PC on the network, using an Internet Explorer browser. If you can surf the web, you can master Tracer ES (Figure 3). Auto-discovery and self-configuration The auto-discovery and self-configuration feature greatly simplifies the time-consuming task of the installer having to build the equipment list and status pages during site setup. During the installation process, Tracer ES discovers all of the equipment for the site, and then automatically builds the equipment list and status Web pages. Online help Users come to Tracer ES with a range of skills and experience and may need varying levels of help. Tracer ES has a comprehensive help system that gives basic help first, and then provides links or buttons to additional help for experts, or to other relevant topics. Users can easily gain information to support the task they are currently trying to accomplish, or search for other topics as well. Figure 3. Tracer ES home page and online help Navigate with graphics With Tracer ES, users can graphically navigate through all levels of a facility by clicking on an image of a building, room, or piece of equipment. Graphical navigation enables operators to view status or change setpoints easily and efficiently. Customizable building index The Buildings Index can be customized to view building information in a hierarchical structure, or by building type. For example, the owner/operator of a retail chain might want to use a hierarchical structure to describe a group of buildings. This gives users access to building information at different levels of the hierarchy. Flexible search tool The Finding a Building feature is a powerful search tool that helps the user quickly find a building or a group of buildings in the system. Users can search on any attribute that is specified during administrator setup. To find a specific building, enter the building name or other building attribute in the Find Building field and click Go. The user is taken to the Summary page for a particular building or group of buildings, where other building information can be readily viewed. Built-in navigation system Tracer ES provides a powerful left-hand navigation system. It is automatically built during the auto-discovery and self-configuration process during installation. The navigation system enables rapid location of buildings and information, allowing daily operators and facility staff to respond quickly to occupant issues. The left-hand navigation system takes the guesswork out of navigating to the information you need by providing access to all pertinent information for daily operational tasks. Recent visits The Recent Visits list can be used as a navigational aid for finding the most recently viewed buildings. This list displays the last 10 buildings that were visited, giving the operator access to buildings that have been worked on most often. If the Remote Building Operator is supporting hundreds of buildings but only working on a few, this list enables the operator to get to those buildings quickly without having to retrace navigation steps. Daily building operation Tracer ES automatically and dynamically constructs Web pages that incorporate building summaries, systems, and equipment, accessed by a left-hand navigation pane (Figure 4). This makes both the installation process and daily operation of Tracer ES efficient and effective. Auto-discovery and self-configuration Auto discovery and self-configuration automatically builds the following pages: Summary Alarms Spaces Equipment Subsystems Schedules Datalogs Summary This page shows a summary of the alarms and space status for a selected building in the enterprise. Alarms This page displays a list of all alarms for a selected building in the enterprise. Spaces This page shows all spaces in a selected building and its related equipment. Users can view the equipment summary page of a building space, and can also modify data points. Equipment This pages shows status of a selected building and its related equipment. Users can view the status of all equipment and subsystems, which displays data points for all equipment in a building. Schedules This page shows the status of existing schedules in a selected building. Users also have the ability to activate or deactivate a selected schedule. Data logs This page displays a list of existing data logs for equipment in a selected building. Users can modify data logs or create new ones. Status Status displays throughout the Tracer ES system provide users with information about the current state of their building control systems. Users can make changes to the operating parameters from these displays. These displays are generated automatically by the autodiscovery process. Data management The Data Collection application lets users collect historical data from the building control system. This data provides invaluable information for optimal system operation and can be used for a variety of purposes, from monthly energy usage reporting to equipment troubleshooting. 10 BAS-PRC019-EN
The Data Log pages display the results of the collection of data points from a piece of equipment or from a building panel. This page displays all of the data points currently being logged with check boxes allowing the user to select and place them on a graph or summary chart for viewing. Enterprise management Tracer ES provides enterprise management functionality to help you run your facilities better. Responding to alarms and modifying schedules from a single-access point is an efficient way to ensure the safety and comfort of your buildings occupants. Enterprise alarm management Sort by priority and alarm type Tracer ES displays alarms for any connected qualified BACnet system on the IT network. Users can manage these alarms by viewing, filtering, and sorting the alarm information. For easy troubleshooting and acknowledgement, hot-links for each alarm quickly take the user to the exact building, space, system, or equipment that is in alarm. E-mail forwarding Alarm information can be sent to an e- mail address based on the severity of the alarm or the attributes of the building from which it was issued. This helps to ensure that building operational staff and servicing contractors are well informed about maintenance problems. Enterprise scheduling Tracer ES simplifies the task of making changes to schedules for more than one building in an enterprise (Figure 5). Enterprise scheduling lets building operators make scheduling changes across multiple buildings without the need to repeat any steps. This significantly reduces the time required for scheduling tasks. For example, a building operator responsible for a group of school buildings in a district needs to make an exception to the schedule for snow days. The operator creates the exception once, and then applies it to the buildings that are affected by that schedule. Data collection and analysis Tracer ES provides data collection, analysis, and reporting of all enterprise data. Users can collect historical data from any Trane or non-trane BACnet building control system. This data provides invaluable information for optimal system operation. It can be used for a variety of purposes, from reporting monthly energy usage to troubleshooting equipment problems. Data logs Tracer ES can collect and store data from both existing panel trends or directly from the system itself. Data logs can be set up directly from the building, system or equipment status pages. A data log setup wizard takes the user through the easy-to-understand process can provides flexibility for the length of storage by either time or number of samples. Figure 5. Viewing data Tracer ES can present stored data in a variety of forms for maximum flexibility by the user. It can present data in either a table format, as a chart, or as a report. Table The selected data log can be presented in a table format, listing the selected data log values as well as the Date/Time stamp. Graph Data Log pages can display the results of the collection of data points from either a piece of equipment or from a building panel. You can view data points on a static graph that can be configured for the desired length of time. A maximum of five data points can be put into a single view (Figure 6). Reports Viewing current and previous system operational data provides invaluable information to the user for troubleshooting and analysis. Tracer ES is capable of creating reports of status information, trends, or query results.exporting data Exporting data Data that is logged is saved in the Microsoft SQL Server database. The data is stored in an open (.txt) format, making it available to other software packages, such as Excel. Using the Tracer ES data logs, you can proactively view and analyze information about all your facilities as if one enterprise, campus, or organization. Customizable user interface The Tracer ES user-interface supports a range of customization possibilities, from custom Web pages to user preferences. Tracer ES users can choose to navigate their systems using Tracer ES standard Web pages that are automatically generated, or create custom Web pages that present an enhanced visual representation. Standard Web pages Standard Web pages are the result of the auto-discovery and autoconfiguration process. They are a convenient way to view data points that come from each piece of equipment, system, or entire plant (Figure 7). Custom Web pages Custom Web pages contain building graphics (floor plans, maps, and equipment) for greater depth of usability of the site (Figure 8). Figure 7. Tracer ES standard Web page Figure 8. Network architecture Tracer ES bridges the gap between old (legacy) systems and new systems. Tracer ES will work with both Tracker (V12 or higher) and Tracer Summit systems (BMTX, BMTW, V16 or higher). Tracer ES easily integrates with other Trane or qualified non-trane BACnet systems (Figure 9). Because it is built on open IT-standard protocols, Tracer ES communicates with buildings through your IP network to allow easy connection of multiple systems across your enterprise s local or wide area network. It connects easily to your network through your existing IT infrastructure to achieve a truly open architecture and system that can integrate easily with others. Publishing Graphics to Tracer ES Trane provides imaging services ranging from 3D floor plans to building exteriors and building campus maps. User administration, security, and preferences Administrator setup Users with administrative privileges have access to a series of setup pages after logging in. These setup pages allow administrators to add, delete, or modify user names, passwords, home page selection, and security privileges for each user. Administrator functions include adding, removing, and managing buildings and user, as well as system customization options. Security The system administrator sets the security level by assigning user profiles roles. The user security profiles define the access level to Tracer ES (access to particular applications, such as alarming, data logs, and status). Preferences Personalize your user experience by selecting display units of measurement in Inch-Pounds or SI units and a home page that best fits your need (Figure 10). Figure 10.
