Inland shipping connections The location of Rotterdam on the estuary of the rivers Rhine and Maas makes inland shipping a perfect mode of transport to reliably move large numbers of containers deep into the European hinterland. From the ECT deep-sea terminals, there are frequent connections to an ever-expanding network of inland terminals in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. In Rotterdam, ECT offers inland facilities such as separate barge cranes at the deep-sea terminals and two dedicated inland shipping termi nals: the Delta Barge Feeder Terminal and the Hartelhaven Barge Terminal. Rail connections The ECT Delta Terminal and the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam at the Maasvlakte both have their own rail terminals which are in operation 24/7. The ECT City Terminal also has access to a 24hrs rail facility. The terminals constitute the starting point and terminus of the Betuweroute, the 160-kilometre-long dedicated freight rail link between Rotterdam and Germany. No other port can match such a unique infrastructure with ample capacity for sustainable growth. In Germany, at DeCeTe in Duisburg, the Betuweroute directly connects to Europe s extensive railway network. ICELAND Hundreds of shuttle trains Each week, ECT handles hundreds of shuttle trains. All destinations in Germany and beyond can be reached within 24 hours. Furthermore, the liberalised rail market ensures that there s always a competitive range of service providers to choose from. In addition, the ECT European Gateway Services operates own rail connections together with partners to and from its extended gates in Venlo in the Netherlands and Duisburg in the heart of Germany s Ruhr area. The latter service is carried out in conjunction with Kombiverkehr, with whom ECT operates the daily Betuwe Express. Road connections Most of Europe can be reached by truck from Rotterdam within 24 hours. However, trucks are also increasingly being used as part of the intermodal logistics chain. Trains and barges bridge the long distances after which trucks take care of local distribution. At the same time, direct trucking still remains a reliable and flexible mode of transport as well. The truck takes containers right up to any doorstep. Highly competitive services In and around Rotterdam, there are hundreds of hauliers which offer highly competitive services. To ensure the shortest possible turnaround times, ECT has substantially optimised the handling of trucks at its terminals, for example by means of the Cargo Card and other additional IT solutions. Feeder connections As the first port of call for many global deep-sea services, ECT is the perfect feeder hub. From the ECT terminals, there are daily feeder connections to and from ports in the UK/Ireland, on the Iberian peninsula, in the ScanBaltic region, Russia and many other locations throughout Europe. Companies can choose between various independent feeder operators. Fast turnaround times ECT efficiently handles feeder vessels at all its deep-sea quays and at the dedicated Delta Barge Feeder Terminal which forms an integral part of the ECT Delta Terminal complex on the Maasvlakte. The fact that the ECT Delta Terminal and the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam are directly situated on the means that turnaround times are more than competitive.
