Mayors Adapt and the new Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy

Mayors AdaptBasics mayors-adapt.eu First pan-european initiative to support cities in leading the way on adaptation to climate change Launched in March 2014 by Commission DG Climate Action 150 European cities have committed in the 1 st year Mayors Adapt s key objectives are to inform and inspire cities, regions and local governments to show leadership on climate change adaptation to supportthem in developing strategies for concrete action to translate and accelerate action on adaptation to improve local resilience to climate impacts

Covenant of Mayors Mayors Adapt Mayors Adapt follows the model of the Covenant of Mayors initiative it is a parallel exercise for adaptation Objective: support local authorities in taking coherent action on both mitigation and adaptation promoting an integrated approach

The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy )brings together local and regional authorities voluntarily committed to implementing EU climate and energy objectives on their territory.

Climate Alliance and the Covenant of Mayors Climate Alliance has been engaged in the Covenant of Mayors initiative since its start in 2008 when the Commission DG ENERGY decided to endorse and support local and regional authorities in the fight against climate change. Climate Alliance runs the CoMO office in partnership with four local government networks as well as its branch office (CoMO-EAST) for Neighborhood countries, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia regions.

Climate Alliance as member of the Covenant Runs the Covenant helpdesk and develops the overall framework for the initiative together with the Joint Research Center Since 2014 coordinates all the capacity building activities for the initiative Monitorsthe outcomes of the initiative Covenant in figures Benchmarks of excellence

Climate Alliance as Covenant supporter The Covenant of Mayors is the result of intensive lobbying by networks such as Climate Alliance As Covenant Supporter Climate Alliance helps its members to reach their targets and manages several Covenant related projects by using our technical expertise; for ex.
