Installation must be in accordance with Section.,.2 or. of this report. When nominally 2-by-2 wood batten strips are not used (i.e., panels installed directly to deck), the joints in the DensDeck must be offset 6 inches (52. mm) from the joints in the deck.... Class A (Assembly 2): The panels must be installed on a minimum 5 / 2 -inch-thick (.9 mm) wood structural panel, or spaced sheathing covered with one layer of GAF VersaShield Fire-Resistant Roof Deck Protection recognized in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-205. For optional batten applications, nominally 2-by-2 wood batten strips must be fastened to the deck with panels nailed or screwed to the battens. Installation must be in accordance with Section.,.2 or. of this report..5 Reroofing Applications:.5. General: With the existing roof covering removed all conditions noted in Sections. through. apply. The existing roof must be inspected and prepared in accordance with the requirements of IBC Section 50 or IRC Section R907..5.2 Continental, Wood Shake, Shadowline, Talavera SF and Classic Tile : The panels may be installed over existing wood shake, wood shingle, asphalt shingle or built-up roof, subject to the conditions set forth here, and providing that the roof slope is as specified in Section..2. If the existing roof covering was installed on spaced sheathing, the gaps must be completely filled in to provide closely fitted decking having joints spaced approximately / 8 inch (.2 mm). For a nonclassified roof covering system, additional structural sheathing boards must be attached to the roof framing to partially fill in the spaced sheathing as required to accommodate all batten fastening locations. Battens must be installed in accordance with Tables, 5, 6 and 7. Wood counterbattens must be installed parallel to the framing (perpendicular to the eaves) at a maximum spacing of 2 inches (60 mm) on center and fastened in accordance with Tables and. When the panels are used to recover an existing classified fire-retardant roof covering, the resulting fireretardant classification remains unchanged. When installation is over wood shingle or wood shake roofs, the entire existing roof surface must be covered with gypsum board, mineral fiber or other approved materials securely fastened in place in accordance with Section 50. of the IBC or Section R907. of the IRC. Alternatively, one layer of GAF VersaShield Fire- Resistant Roof Deck Protection recognized in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-205 must be used to cover the entire existing roof. For installations over existing built-up roof coverings, all loose gravel and debris must be swept off the roof. Blisters in the plies must be cut and nailed flat. Raised perimeters, such as gravel stops, must be covered by the roofing system. Where the system is installed over integral gutter, a fascia board nailed to the rafters must be provided and installed outside the gutter..5. Fire Classification Reroofing (205, 202, 2009 and 2006 IBC and IRC):.5.. (Continental, Wood Shake, Shadowline, Talavera SF and Classic Tile ):.5... Class C: The ridge and hip caps must be removed and the existing roof covering cut back flush with the fascia or barge cover. Except when installation is over one layer of asphalt shingles, wood counterbattens must be installed parallel to the framing members at a maximum of 2 inches (60 mm) on center. Counterbattens must be fastened in accordance with Table, 5, 6 or 7 with corrosion-resistant ring shank nails or screws penetrating completely through the roof sheathing or at least inch (25 mm) into the roof framing member. Nominally 2-by-2 battens must be fastened to the counterbattens with corrosion-resistant ring shank nails or screws in accordance with Tables, 2,,, 5, 6 and 7. The panels must be fastened to the battens according to Tables, 2 and. New flashing is to be installed over and around all existing flashing, vents and chimneys in accordance with the applicable codes..5...2 Class B: Installation is similar to that for Class C except that an underlayment of one layer of GAF VersaShield Fire-Resistant Roof Deck Protection, installed in accordance with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-205, or one layer of mineral-surfaced 72-pound cap sheet complying with ASTM D909, installed in the customary manner with 2-inch (5 mm) head laps over the existing roof-covering system, and FSK faced batt and blanket, face-up and / 2 inches thick (8 mm), must be installed directly over the existing roof and mechanically fastened prior to installation of the battening system..5... Class A: Installation is similar to that for Class C roofs except that the addition of one of the following is required: a. One layer of minimum / -inch-thick (6. mm) G-P Gypsum Corporation DensDeck placed directly over the existing roof cover (mechanically fastened to the roof deck), followed by the panels fastened to the batten strips and optional counterbattens. b. One layer of GAF VersaShield Fire-Resistant Roof Deck Protection recognized in ESR-205 followed by one layer of Type II (No. 0) asphalt-saturated organic felt complying with ASTM D226 followed by the panels fastened to the batten strip and optional counterbattens. c. Two layers of GAF VersaShield Fire-Resistant Roof Deck Protection recognized in ESR-205 followed by the panels fastened to the batten strip and optional counterbattens..5..2 Talavera NB, Tudor Slate NB, Ridgewood NB and Classic Tile NB (Direct-to-Deck Application): The roofing panels may be installed over existing asphalt shingles or built-up roofing, subject to the conditions set forth in this report and provided the installation complies with Section..2 and the applicable code. The panels must be fastened through the existing roof covering, to the solid or closely fitted roof sheathing. Tile fasteners and fastening required must be in accordance with Tables, 2,, 8, 9 and 0. New flashing must be installed over and around all existing flashing in accordance with this report and the requirements of the applicable code. The existing roof must conform to Section 50 of the IBC and Section R907 of the IRC. All loose gravel and debris must be swept off existing roof coverings. Blisters in the plies must be cut and nailed flat. Ridge and hip caps

ESR-286 Most Widely Accepted and Trusted Page of 5 must be removed and existing asphalt shingles must be cut back flush with the fascia or barge cover. Raised perimeters, such as gravel stops, must be covered by the roof covering. The roof covering may be installed over integral gutters provided there is a fascia board, nailed to the rafters, that is installed outside the gutter. When panels are installed over an existing classified fireretardant roof covering, the resulting fire classification remains unchanged..5..2. Class C: For the Talavera NB, Tudor Slate NB, Ridgewood NB and Classic Tile NB, the ridge and hip caps must be removed and the existing roof covering cut back flush with the fascia or barge cover covered with a minimum of one layer of Type II (No. 0) or two layers of Type I (No. 5) asphalt-saturated organic felt complying with ASTM D226, followed by the panels fastened to the deck in accordance with Tables, 2,, 8, 9 and 0..5..2.2 Class B: Installation is similar to that for Class C except that there must be an underlayment of one layer of GAF VersaShield Fire-Resistant Roof Deck Protection installed in accordance with ESR-205, or one layer of mineral-saturated 72-pound cap sheet complying with ASTM D909 and installed in the customary manner with 2-inch (5 mm) head laps over the existing roof covering system, followed by the panels..5..2. Class A: Installation is similar to that for Class C roof except that the addition of one of the following is required: a.
