Assessment and Technical Investigations The following is a summary of the assessment and technical investigations carried out on Integritank. Design Considerations 4 General 4.1 Integritank is satisfactory for use as a damp-proofing and waterproofing membrane for solid ground floors, underground structures and for internally and externally applied tanking below ground, in accordance with the relevant clauses of CP 102 : 1973, Section 2, and all grades of basement constructions as defined in Table 2 of BS 8102 : 2009. 4.2 The system is compatible with concrete, smooth brickwork and screeded substrates, and is resistant to those chemicals likely to occur in normal service conditions. 4.3 Service penetrations, movement joints and construction joints in the Integritank waterproofing membrane are evaluated individually and agreed in advance of construction between Stirling Lloyd Polychem Ltd, the client, and the Authorised Contractor. The Certificate holder must be consulted for site-specific installation details. 5 Practicability of installation The system should only be installed by installers who have been trained and approved by the Certificate holder. 6 Resistance to water and water vapour 6.1 The system will adequately resist the passage of moisture from the ground into the structure and so will meet the requirements of the national Building Regulations: England and Wales Approved Document C, Requirement C2(a), Section 4.7 Scotland Mandatory Standard 3.4, clauses 3.4.1, 3.4.2 and 3.4.5 to 3.4.7 Northern Ireland Regulation C4(a). 6.2 The system is impervious to water and, when used and installed in accordance with this Certificate, will provide a waterproof layer capable of accepting minor structural movements without damage. 7 Resistance to mechanical damage 7.1 The adhesion of the system to the properly prepared substrates listed in section 4.2 is satisfactory. 7.2 The system has adequate resistance to damage that might be caused by sharp implements or stones, however, unnecessary traffic should be avoided. 8 Maintenance As the system is confined within the structure and has satisfactory durability, maintenance is not required. However, any damage occurring during construction works must be repaired in accordance with section 13 prior to the application of protection or backfilling. 9 Durability When subjected to normal service conditions, the system will provide an effective barrier to the transmission of moisture for the life of the structure in which it is incorporated. Installation 10 General 10.1 Integritank must be installed in accordance with the relevant requirements of CP 102 : 1973, Section 2, or BS 8102 : 2009, and the manufacturer s instructions. Additional guidance on the use of damp-proof membrane (dpm) materials is available in BS 8000-4 : 1989. 10.2 Concrete or screeded surfaces must have a smooth finish, and be free from cavities, loosely adhering material and sharp protrusions. Surfaces must be dry and free from oil, grease, curing compounds, moss, algae growth, bituminous products, dust and frost. 10.3 Vertical surfaces of brickwork and blockwork should preferably be rendered to provide an even surface. Brickwork or blockwork not rendered must be flush-pointed to give a smooth surface without sudden changes in level. 10.4 New concrete must be a minimum of seven days old and preferably have a wood float finish. 10.5 Before application, tests should be carried out to ensure that the required bond between the system and the concrete is achieved. This should be carried out in accordance with BS EN ISO 4624 : 2003. The bond strength should be a minimum of 0.3 N mm 2. Page 4 of 7

10.6 Installation must not be carried out during inclement weather (eg rain, fog or snow). When the temperature is below 5 C, suitable precautions against condensation must be taken. During the installation of the system the substrate temperature must be above the dew-point. 11 Construction 11.1 Substrates must be primed and allowed to dry (see Table 3) prior to the application of the system. Solid concrete floors 11.2 In the floor, it is essential to extend the system up the internal wall surfaces as far as the damp-proof course (dpc), and tie it in with the dpc to form a continuous waterproof membrane. A sand/cement screed should be laid as soon as possible after application. External tanking 11.3 The system is applied to the sub-base to a minimum of 200 mm beyond the proposed external wall line. After construction of the wall, the system on the sub-base should be cleaned with a suitable solvent, prior to overcoating and extending up the vertical face. 11.4 The system does not require additional protection, but care must be taken during backfilling, following good site practice. Internal tanking 11.5 The system is applied to the surfaces to be waterproofed and in all instances, to resist the action of external water pressure, a wall (preferably of concrete) must be constructed immediately after the application of the system. 11.6 Where brickwork or blockwork is used, it should be set 40 mm away from the coated wall and the void thoroughly filled with sand/cement mortar. 12 Application Primer 12.1 Priming of concrete surfaces is carried out by spray, brush or roller. The use of PA1 Primer or PAR 1 Primer will depend upon site conditions. Ponding of the primer must be avoided. 12.2 Application rates and drying times are as shown in Table 3. Table 3 Application rates and drying times Primer Rate (kg m 2 ) Drying time PA1 0.15 0.25 60 mins at 20 C PAR1 0.15 0.3 45 mins at 20 C Waterproofing membrane 12.3 Waterproofing is supplied as and Part B (see section 1.1). Immediately before use, the pre-weighed Hardener Powder is stirred into Part B and mixed thoroughly. and Part B are metered and mixed in an airless spray unit at a rate of 1:1. Part B is pigmented yellow, white or grey. 12.4 The waterproofing is spray applied in two coats, the first coat pigmented yellow and the second coat pigmented grey or white. 12.5 Each coat must be applied to give a minimum wet film thickness of 1.2 mm to ensure a minimum dry film thickness of 1 mm and a total minimum dry film thickness of 2 mm overall, including peaks, arrises and irregularities in the substrate. This can be achieved by a coverage rate of 1.4 kg m 2 per coat on a smooth surface. This coverage rate will vary with surface irregularity in the concrete substrate. 12.6 The second coat can be applied directly onto the first coat once it has cured. Curing time will vary with temperature but is typically 1 hour at 23 C. Lapping 12.7 Where a new waterproofing membrane is joined to an existing Integritank (Spray Grade) Waterproofing membrane, and at day joints, the new application must be lapped onto the existing membrane by a minimum of 50 mm. 12.8 Where the existing membrane is clean, no additional preparation is necessary. 12.9 Where the existing membrane is dirty or contaminated, the surface should be cleaned with a suitable solvent. 13 Repair of defects Pin/blow holes 13.1 After application of each coat, any identified pin/blow holes are overcoated with Integritank (Spray Grade) or (Hand Grade) waterproofing membrane with an additional minimum wet film thickness of 1.2 mm per coat. Page 5 of 7

Blisters and damage 13.2 Any blisters or damage must be made good by cutting back to sound material, the periphery prepared if necessary as for lapping, and a repair coat of Spray Grade or Hand Grade waterproofing membrane applied as in sections 12.5 and 12.6, ensuring a minimum peripheral lap of 50 mm around the repair. 13.3 Where the damage is through to the substrate, the exposed surface must first be cleaned and then re-primed. 14 On-site quality control Site control checks are made by the authorised contractor in accordance with the Certificate holder s instructions. Technical Investigations 15 Tests Tests for physical properties and performance were conducted on samples of the system and results assessed to determine: thickness mass per unit area tensile strength and elongation water vapour permeability dimensional stability low temperature flexibility resistance to water pressure resistance to chisel impact resistance to static indentation resistance to dynamic indentation resistance to cracking resistance to aggregate indentation tensile bond strength to concrete resistance to sliding effects of long-term heat ageing effects of long-term water exposure effects of long-term UV ageing. 16 Investigations 16.1 The manufacturing process was evaluated, including the methods adopted for quality control, and details were obtained of the quality and composition of the materials used. 16.2 A visit was made to a site in progress to assess the practicability of installation.
