Rubber Sample Analysis All fenders specified as Trelleborg fenders or equivalent Recommended specifications regarding rubber was discussed but not implemented due to commercial issues Contractor ordered fenders from supplier X Analyses of rubber samples showed that supplier X did not meet the recommendations from Trelleborg regarding carbon black and ash content Test Trelleborg Recommendation Result Supplier X Polymer % Min. 45% 47,6/49,3 Carbon Black % Min 30% 27,5/27,8 Ash % Max 5% 17,0/15,9 23
Rubber Quality in PIANC Recommendations In order to ensure sufficient rubber quality we believe compund composition should be included in recommendations from a neutral party such as PIANC Status? WG 145 Berthing Velocities and Fender Design (Expected for publication in 2016) 24
Conclusions Good dialogue with the Client is very important To define design vessels To understad how the vessels are mauvering in the port Fender solutions on sheet pile wall with no backfill requires complicated and costly strengthening. From a consultant s point of view it would have been better if requirements to rubber quality was recommended by a neutral party such as PIANC. 25
