Training Course Brochure 2015 Building Capacity in Rural & Urban Water Management

Introduction The WastePro Academy seeks to encourage the use of desktop software applications in the water and environmental management sector both in professional practice and academic institutions. We offer a bouquet of standard and customized training courses within the following categories: MS Office Proficiency Courses Free and Open Source (FOSS) GIS Proficiency Courses Water Modelling Software Proficiency Courses Computer Aided Engineering Design Courses Customized in-plant training programmes can be organized on a one-on-one basis for senior professionals or for small class sizes of up to four participants. Each training course has a modular structure which ensures that participants are well grounded in the essential hydrologic/hydraulic engineering concepts and principles as well as the requisite computer modeling techniques. Microsoft Office Proficiency Courses This category of training courses is provided for water facility managers at the community level on behalf of donor agencies or NGOs. Training is offered at zonal or regional training locations. The funding agency will be required to provide the necessary hardware and software resources. FOSS GIS Proficiency Courses FOSS GIS refers to Free and Open Source GIS software. There are numerous benefits your organization can gain by replacing your expensive GIS software with FOSS GIS software. The software can be installed on multiple computers i.e. official or home use. You can easily download and install updates for free. Most significantly, money saved on software licenses and annual renewals fees can be spent on staff training and development. Our FOSS GIS courses are being provided for water sector professionals with no or limited knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) who want to become familiar with free and open source software packages such as MapWindow GIS, gvsig, Quantum GIS and SAGA GIS to support the decision making process in their various fields of endeavour.

Water Modelling Software Proficiency Courses This category of training courses are provided for professionals and academics who wish to become acquainted with specific industry standard water modeling software packages. The main focus is on practical skills, hands-on exercises and on teaching you how to get the most out of your software. Our software training courses are modular and allow you to build your expertise so as to match the requirements of your job whether you are a new or current user. Computer Aided Engineering Design Courses These training courses equip water sector professionals with the knowledge and skills to harness the capability of various industry standard software packages to accomplish a range of engineering analysis and design tasks. Participants will have the opportunity to work with datasets from real engineering projects. Courses will typically involve the use of more than one software application as such basic level software proficiency in some specific software packages is recommended before you can enroll in these sessions. These courses are highly recommended for early and mid-career graduate engineers in both consulting and public sector organizations. Additional Information Should the training course of your interest not be on the list, please feel free to contact us so that we can arrange for future courses or do a one-to-one course at your office.
