Strategy HOMAG Automation From small to large, single to complex In the Swiss bathroom furniture manufacturer Loosli, a collating magazine, consisting of two 28 meter long and 10 meter high alleys with each 23 stories, keeps order between production and delivery. Material management with more than 100,000 articles or machines that process more than 10,000 parts - both is no longer special for medium-sized companies, but is a prerequisite to remain competitive. How is it possible to produce profitably and deliver just in time assortments even in batch size 1? HOMAG Automation has the answer. For others still future, for us already reality Short throughput times, stock reduction and fl exibility with low production costs at the same time are decisive success factors independent from the company s size. Batch size 1 production is the ultimate discipline. HOMAG Automation machines change furniture production in a revolutionary manner due to the material and data fl ow. The optimal capacity utilization of the operating machines and production center is a key element of the production s organization. Intelligent continuous software solutions link operation cells through innovative feeding and stacking systems, robot guided pick & place applications, and automatic storage and collating systems. The result: Effi ciency and productivity multiply. Precision and repeat accuracy on high availability and process safety are improved in yet unknown magnitude. The fully automatic material management reduced costs in noticeable degrees. Our production is still the same. At the interface between fi nal assembly/ packaging and delivery hall much has changed due to the new storage. Research and Development HOMAG Automation 90 developer. One mission. In modern production, intralogistic concepts move away from stacks towards smaller packages and single parts. Solutions to realize one piece flows incl. reduction of tied capital in production and shortening of throughput times are increasingly demanded from HOMAG Automation. What piano playing has to do with production control To strike the right keys at the right moment in the right manner - our engineers consider the control in furniture production as similar. The right part in the right position on the right machine at the right moment. This is only possible with a sophisticated data management. Therefore, HOMAG Automation develop the control of their machines and systems themselves. We know, thanks to decades of experience in the industry as well as in automation and robotics, the meaning in practice of in-company transport in sequence and production per lot. Our software covers almost all customer specifi c requirements. Not using third party suppliers from outside the sector reduces project periods, improves commissionings, facilitates integration in customer s networks, and enables remote maintenance. The control is ready when the machine is assembled at customer s site and runs as desired by the customer. As subcontractor we are under time and cost pressure. Therefore we are seeking a solution which is able to process also quantity in batch size one with high process safety. It is clear to us that we will go for robot automation on future investments. Michael Neuburger W. Ruhsi GmbH Jens Ludwig (left) is team manager robotics. He is in charge of technical realization, customer specific adjustments and commissionings. Christoph Jantzen (right) manages several technical projects, further develops components for vacuum technology and acts as creative mind between sales and engineering. Industry 4.0 HOMAG Automation Future starts. Now. Enterprises with perspective opt for innovation, globalization, efficiency and sustainability. Enduring growth is only possible with trend-setting technology that pays off and saves our environment. This applies particularly to enterprises in the woodworking industry. HOMAG Automation combines economy and ecology by means of ecoplus. Our customers produce 250,000 furniture parts per day all over the world by using HOMAG Group machines. For this, HOMAG Group supplies complete lines from horizontal storage system to packaging, fully automated and with continuous software from a single source - no matter whether as batch size 1 or as serial production. Networked production Is it possible to develop a concept for a furniture factory, in which one configured customer request arises from 48 million variations, this will be manufactured with millimeter precision and delivered in only 15 working days? We do - as many examples prove. The magic word is: Networked production. We create conditions through a transparent part flow, an intelligent mechanical and control-side interlinking of all machines, and the permanent process control to achieve high capacity increase. Our selection would be the same even in the choice of the machine partner, because the system works fully satisfactory and as far as I know, there is no other supplier able to solve such complete concept economically. - Albert Nopp Managing Director Hali Büromöbel GmbH 18 19
