SAFEPASS GENERAL About SafePass Road Barrier SafePass Road Barrier is intended for use as work zone protection where a longitudinal road barrier is required. SafePass Road Barrier is tested according to the European standard EN 1317, containment level T3. General requirements! Always do an assessment and a method statement for the installation.! Perform a safety inspection on products before use.! Never use damaged or rusty materials.! Use tools intended for the installation.! Use lifting equipment with sufficient load capacity.! Use adequate personal protection equipment.! Use personal fall arrest equipment when working at height.! Installation and handling of the road barrier shall be done by trained, competent personnel.! Safety Solutions Jonsereds (SSJ) product liability only applies to combinations of SSJ products that are assembled according to SSJ s I-guides.! No design changes may be made without consulting SSJ.! Make sure all documentation needed is available and up-to-date. Safety recommendations Road barrier systems are often installed in dangerous circumstances with live carriage near by. Make sure national safety regulations are followed when working with the road barrier! SSJ recommend that an adequate safety zone between the working area and the carriage way is maintained during installation/dismounting. Never work alone! 2/12

SAFEPASS STORAGE & HANDLING Stacking/storage/transport The barrier units can be stacked on top of each other by letting the feet rest in the service channels of the underlying barriers. Thus, no stacking material is needed. Make sure that the elements in the bottom layer are placed parallel, and as close together as possible. Make sure that all barriers stands firmly, and that all barrier feet are fully engaged into the underlying barriers. Stack a maximum of 3 levels. Beware of crush and tipping risks when handling and stacking the barriers act accordingly. Always secure the barriers during transportation. MAX x 3 Handling The SafePass Road Barrier can be handled using boom trucks, excavators, wheel loaders or fork lifts. Lifting points for forks, 2 leg chain sling, lifting clamp and webbing sling are available. SSJ recommend handling using a lifting clamp or forks this way, work at height can be avoided. To avoid exceeding safe working load limits - never lift interconnected barriers. 5/12
SAFEPASS INSTALLATION Prerequisites Installation shall be carried out according to national regulations plan the work site accordingly. Prepare underground SafePass Road Barrier is intended for use on cold asphalt. Make sure that the surface is free of any sand, soil etc that could affect the surface friction properties. Height differences exceeding 4,5 cm around the butt joint area must be evened out before installation. Prepare installation Activate the connector by pulling the handle. (This may be done while the barriers are still stacked). 6/12
SAFEPASS INSTALLATION Connect barriers The barrier units are easily connected by letting the connector engage over the locking pin in the end of the next of barrier. Attention do not stand by the joint area if needed, the person on the ground can assist guiding the element from the far end. Make sure that the handle has completely fallen down. The barrier elements should be separated as much as possible after interconnection is done. Move the connector SafePass Road Barrier can be mounted in any direction. If the connector is located at the wrong end, there is no need to turn the barrier around simply move the connector to the other end. 7/12
Ø22 SAFEPASS INSTALLATION End anchoring The installed road barrier system shall be anchored in each end. Connect end elements to standard barrier elements. Drill 8x Ø22 mm holes through the anchoring plates (4 in each end). Thereafter, drive anchor nails into each hole. 8 x 8/12
SAFEPASS DISMOUNTING Loosen end element Loosen the anchor nails using for instance a crowbar. All pinholes in the carriageway must be restored after removal! Disengage connector and remove barriers Disengage all connectors by lifting the handle and then sliding the connector back. Thereafter remove the barriers. Start by lifting the barriers sideways to avoid damaging/hitting the connector in the next barrier. 9/12
SAFEPASS CREATE AN OPENING Create an opening Remove the connectors completely from both sides of the barrier to be removed. Thereafter the element can be removed. Pay attention to if the elements are somewhat jammed together risk of exceeding safe working load limits if adjacent barriers come along when lifting. Close opening Put the barrier element back in to place and re-engage the connectors. 10/12
SAFEPASS INSPECTIONS & MAINTANENCE Final inspection When installation is completed, a final safety inspection shall be carried out. The inspection shall be performed using the control guide C-Guide SafePass Road Barrier. Regular inspections Regular inspections shall be carried out, preferably on a daily basis. The C-Guide SafePass Road Barrier can be used as a basis for the inspection. Inspection after impact If an impact has occurred, the barrier system must be inspected. Inspection and any repairing/disposal shall be carried out by competent personnel, using the general maintenance guide M-Guide SafePass Road Barrier General in combination with the product specific M- Guides. Recycling Products or part of products shall be recycled to the extent possible. 11/12
