Radio Data Communication Systems. Increased productivity. Increased quality. Reduced costs.

The direct line without a line. Data recording and transmission in real time. Do you sometimes get annoyed about too much paper or wrongly positioned pallets? Too many order picking errors? Wrong deliveries? Out of date data in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) because order picking lists were not reported back? Or warehouse stand still during inventories? If you can answer just one question with yes, we should consider a solution radio data communication system. Radio data communication means: wireless data transmission from WMS to staff in the warehouse (e.g. transport orders) and wireless transmission from staff to the WMS (e.g. goods in postings). Data processing is done in real time. The advantage your stock data on the WMS are always up to date. Jungheinrich provides you with a radio data solution, from planning and projecting right up to Customer Service with tailor-made maintenance contract. In brief, radio data communication for all warehouse sectors. 2

Application sector 1: Goods-in and storage. Goods-in process chain (WE) 1. Scanning in barcodes* of all delivered goods 2. Online adjustment between ordered and delivered goods 3. Immediate posting in Warehouse Management System (WMS) 4. It is possible to use of pre-printed barcode labels with clear TU (TU: Transport Unit), as the storage position address is displayed on the operator terminal and there is therefore no need for it to appear on the label Your benefits from radio data communication Current stock in WMS at any time Significant time saved by scanning instead of manual recording (especially by using EAN 128) Significant time and cost savings by using pre-printed labels (no separate printer required) *EAN 128 example: recording of e.g. production date, sell-by date, charge, number of packaging unit (NVE), weight, quantity, etc. with one scanning process. Mobile workplace for fast goods-in recording. Can be equipped with terminal, scanner and printer. 10

Storage process chain 1. Pallet pick-up in goods-in and scanning of clear TU ID 2. Storage position displayed on terminal 3. At storage location, automatic check of storage position by scanning address or check digit 4. Storage and immediate posting on Warehouse Management System (WMS) 5. Immediate display of retrieval order with near storage position address (implementation of double cycles) Your benefits from radio data communication Goods are immediately available for customer orders Up to date stock in WMS at any time. Wrong storage position virtually impossible New orders (e.g. with high priority) can be transmitted at any time with double cycles included in the process With multilevel storage, the location of the TU is known at any time routes are optimised Truck terminal for mounting on fork lift trucks 11

Application sector 2: Order picking. Order picking process chain 1. Calling up an order picking order 2. Picking up an empty and scanning TU ID 3. Transmission of first order picking position via truck, hand-held terminal, voice or light system 4. Automatic check of order picking position by scanning address or check digit 5. Retrieval of respective number of articles as displayed/announced 6. Acknowledge retrieval on terminal, voice or light system 7. Working off next order position until order is completed 8. Transporting picked goods to a transfer position (e.g. order merging, packing station) or to stipulated goodsout area Your benefits from radio data communication Current stock in WMS at any time Wrong order picking position/articles/transfer position virtually impossible due to check digits and barcodes Considerable time saving as there is no handling of documents and no paperwork Faster acceptance and implementation of order picking information Simple multi-order picking Automatic correction of stock figures possible Immediate automatic replenishment initiation in case of a shortfall in minimum quantities (waiting times are reduced) Low inventory work due to possibility of permanent inventory (e.g. zero run) High flexibility within an order picking process 12

Application sector 3: Retrieval and Goods-out. Retrieval process chain 1. Calling up a retrieval order on terminal and travelling to stated storage position 2. Automatic check of storage position by scanning address, check digit or TU ID (TU: Transport Unit) 3. Retrieval of TU 4. Transport of TU to transfer position (e.g. order merging, packing station) or to stipulated goods-out area 5. Automatic check of destination position by scanning address or check digit and depositing TU Your benefits of radio data communication Up to date stock in WMS at any time Wrong storage position virtually impossible New orders (e.g. with high priority) can be transmitted at any time and, for instance with double cycles, included in the current process Routes are optimised Goods-out process chain 1. Entering a tour identifier in WMS 2. Scanning transport units 3. Automatic check of affiliation of transport unit with tour to be processed by the WMS 4. Confirmation of last transport unit and load completion Your benefits of radio data communication Faulty loading or faulty/incomplete delivery are virtually impossible. 14

Road is clear on data motorway. Optimal link-up with host/warehouse management systems. No matter what the requirements of your software are the Jungheinrich radio data communication components are suitable for linking up with practically all host/warehouse management systems. Link-up with host/warehouse management systems Truck or hand-held terminals are in most cases linked up with a higher level host/ warehouse management system via emulations or client/server solutions. Emulations ( thin client ) The processing mask of the host/warehouse management system is transferred one-to-one to the truck or handheld terminal. The order display and data to be entered are fixed. The terminal functions exclusively as a keyboard for the host/warehouse management system. Client/server solution ( thick client ) The client software on the terminal receives orders from the higher level system, edits them graphically and sends confirmations back. Other link-up possibilities For example, browser surfaces, Java virtual machine, remote desktop client or direct installation of desktop PC software on the terminal (e.g. SAP GUI). 15

Strong components for a strong entirety. The centres of a strong radio data communication system. In the warehouse Wireless radio network (wireless local area network, in short W-LAN) for data transmission Radio access (access points or wireless switches). These appliances are connected to the company network (e.g. Ethernet), receive data from the host/warehouse management system and send these wireless to the respective receivers (e.g. hand-held terminals). On fork lift trucks Truck terminals that receive storage orders and display these for the operator Scanners for identifying transport units Label printers that make the correct label available immediately For employees Hand-held terminals that receive order picking orders and display them for the operator Pick-by-voice systems that receive order picking orders and announce them to the operator Scanners that confirm storage positions Portable printers that provide the correct label immediately Mobile workplaces Equipped with terminal, scanner and label printer, these mobile units ensure easy goods-in recording Stationary workplaces Equipped with client PCs, scanner and label printer (e.g. at packing positions) Services Consultation Planning and projecting Radio location Installation Commissioning Maintenance and service 16

The complete solution: Planning and Projecting. Implementation and Maintenance. A one-stop shop. 1 st phase: Consultation We will explain during intensive discussions the potentials of radio data communication in your specific case. This is followed by an initial gathering of existing material and information flow as well as requirements of a new radio data transmission system. The result: Requirement profile of the radio data communication system. 2 nd phase: Planning and projecting A detailed concept will be devised based on the requirement profile. Logistic structures (e.g. warehouse layout, means of transport, IT infrastructure) are documented. Existing system environment is taken into account. The result: Detailed concept for your individual radio data communication system. 3 rd phase: Realisation of radio location, installation and commissioning Implementation of the detailed concept into an operative solution with a ready to go system. The radio location (see next page) is carried out to ensure complete and quick data transmission. Hardware components (e.g. access points, terminals) are installed and the IT environment is integrated. A regular information exchange between all concerned creates transparency for a safe project advance. The result: Operative solutions with a efficient system. 18

4 th phase: Maintenance and Service Even after commissioning the radio data communication systems, Jungheinrich will be by your side as a strong partner. The performance spectrum extends from hotline support to remote maintenance to on site service, from inspection and maintenance via repair in our own Service Centre to spare parts supply. All services can be agreed individually or as a service package. The result: Long-term investment security. 19

We have something against radio black holes: Radio For a information flow that does not falter. Radio location for highest data transmission rates The area must be equipped with an overall radio network/w-lan wherever radio data transmission systems are used. The physical challenge: 1. The further away radio waves are from the transmitter, the slower data is transmitted. 2. Walls, liquids and metals (e.g. racking) disrupt even distribution of radio waves. The Jungheinrich solution: Radio locations. Initially, radio accesses (e.g. access points) are theoretically set by means of hall plans. It is now measured on site how far radio coverage is guaranteed with these radio accesses. Special software records measuring data, such as signal field strengths, data transmission rates, interferences and signal-to-noise distances. The number and positions of radio accesses are finally set after analysis of the measuring data. Original positions may be changed or radio accesses added until every radio black hole has been plugged-up. Professional documentation allows the measurement and its results to be retraced. Radio location is a vital component of every radio data communication project which ensures high data transmission rates wherever it is required. 20
