Why choosing FEN? The rationale Interested in forest protection / sustainable forest management? Want to solve global issues, in an international framework? Looking for an internationally visible degree? Want to work abroad? Interested in research-based training, or research-oriented training? FEN master curriculum provides you with: a training course on forests, 100% English-speaking The diploma «MSc AgroParisTech» research-based training on forest ecosystems with partnership of Université de Lorraine and INRA
FEN master labels of excellence Rated «A» by the French Research Agency (AERES) Funded by Laboratory of Excellence (Labex) «ARBRE» French side of master Erasmus Mundus «European Forestry» Occurs in Nancy, lead centre for education/research on forests AgroParisTech Nancy belongs to «NFZ forest» network Selective entrance (+ B2 English-level, Toeic > 700, Cambridge FCE)
Educational strategy Keyline «Decipher the organization, functioning and dynamics of temperate forest ecosystems and develop quantitative tools for their sustainable management in a context of global environmental changes» Purpose 1 - to train experts and managers Forest ecosystem diagnosis and monitoring (ecology, environment) Forest management sustainability analysis (forest management) Purpose 2 - to prepare young researchers Research in forest ecology and management on resource sustainability, biodiversity, climatic change
FEN curriculum overview 10 training units (1 week) - fundamental knowledge & tools/methods 1 joint unit with ALU university Freiburg (1 week in Freiburg) Field trips: observatories, experiments, forest contexts, wood industry Forest policy events, cross-disciplinary scientific seminars >20 week-long internship, support to MSc dissertation, in France or abroad Project-based learning, group working!
FEN curriculum training units (TUs) A cornerstone: the balance between science and engineering Providing disciplinary and method knowledges Disciplinary TUs Ecology, Ecophysiology, BGC cycles, Genetics, Economics Methods/tools TUs Modelling, Statistics, GIS, STI analysis A thematic TU (Freiburg): «Forests and forestry in a context of global change» Original balance not delivered in other forest-oriented courses
FEN curriculum internship The internship as a basis for professional immersion in a lab, or in a private/public company, in France or abroad And a basis to write the MSc dissertation the dissertation is evaluated and defended publicly When in France, internships are funded >500 /month, enforced by the French law Origin of internships found by students, or proposed the institution (~50/50%), require a validation can take place in labs of Nancy campus (AgroParisTech, INRA, ONF, IGN )
