Innovation in Design: ID Credit 1: Innovation in Design Credit can be achieved through any combination of the Innovation in Design and Exemplary Performance paths asdescribed below: PATH 1 Innovation in Design. Identify the following in writing: The intent of the proposed innovation credit. The proposed requirement for compliance. The proposed submittals to demonstrate compliance. The design approach (strategies) used to meet the requirements. Page 2 of 4; PC-CI

PATH 2. Exemplary Performance (1-3 points) Achieve exemplary performance in an existing LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations prerequisite or credit that allows exemplary performance as specified in the LEED Reference Guide for Green Building Design & Construction, 2009 Edition. An exemplary performance point may be earned for achieving double the credit requirements and/or achieving the next incremental percentage threshold of an existing credit in LEED. One point is awarded for each exemplary performance achieved. No more than 3 points under IDc1 may be earned through PATH 2 Exemplary Performance. PATH 3. Pilot Credit (1 point) Attempt a pilot credit available in the Pilot Credit Library at www.usgbc.org/pilotcreditlibrary. Register as a pilot credit participant and complete the required documentation. Projects may pursue more than 1 pilot credit; however, a maximum of 1 point will be awarded. Innovation in Design: ENERGY AND ATMOSPHERE: MATERIALS 1 point Balco, Inc. PC Series Partition Closure Systems reduce air leakage in and out of the building and simultaneously imparting thermal insulation at thermal breaks between building systems. This translates into a more tightly sealed building, helping HVAC systems achieve more precise control of the indoor environment. This is accomplished by reducing the amount of uncontrolled outside air entering the building, as well as preventing pressurized heating and cooling air from escaping. Innovation and Design Process: Waste Management - Recycle/Reuse/Salvage: MATERIALS MINIMIZATION 1 point Balco, Inc. PC Series Partition Closure Systems can contribute to air quality and thermal comfort functions while also performing the functions required of wall assemblies. This results in use of one product/ material, minimizing material usage and improving construction schedules. Innovation and Design Process:: Waste Management - Recycle/Reuse/Salvage: Materials Minimization: LIFE CYCLE 1 point Balco, Inc. CE Series Compression Seal Joint Cover Systems conserve resources due to the product s long life-cycle. The durability of Balco, Inc. PC Series Partition Closure Systems translates into a materials replacement cost savings and to the mitigation of damage to building components and contents as a result of moisture penetration. This long life cycle results in decrease of retrofit work to replace worn systems, thus saving energy, reducing solid waste, and preventing potential pollutants release into the atmosphere generated by substrate preparation. Pilot Credit 54: Avoidance of Chemicals of Concern 1 point Use a minimum of 20%, by cost, of at least 3 building product and material types meeting one of the options below. Chemical Avoidance Option 1: Avoidance Use third party certified building products and materials that do not contain intentionally added substances present in the end product over the reporting thresholds below. Calculate compliant building products and materials at cost. Substance Allowed Concentration Lead and lead compounds Mercury Cadmium Antimony Hexavalent Chromium Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs) Carcinogens listed in California s Proposition 65 Page 3 of 4; PC-CI

For projects outside the U.S. additionally Under levels that would avoid carcinogens listed on the trigger notification Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) substances of very high concern (SVHC) Candidate List Balco, Inc. PC Series Partition Closure Systems (Steel Channels and Silicone Seals in any color except black) contain none of the Chemicals listed in Option 1 of Pilot Credit 54. Black silicone seals are not eligible for this credit. Contact Balco, Inc. to learn more about LEED and how Balco, Inc. products can contribute to your project goals. Balco, Inc. 2626 S. Innovation in Design: ID Credit 1: Innovation in Design Credit can be achieved through any combination of the Innovation in Design and Exemplary Performance paths asdescribed below: Page 2 of 4; PC-NC

PATH 1 Innovation in Design. Identify the following in writing: The intent of the proposed innovation credit. The proposed requirement for compliance. The proposed submittals to demonstrate compliance. The design approach (strategies) used to meet the requirements. Innovation in Design: ENERGY AND ATMOSPHERE: MATERIALS 1 point 1 point Balco, Inc. PC Series Partition Closure Systems conserve resources due to the product s long life-cycle. The durability of Balco, Inc. CE Series Compression Seal Joint Cover Systems translates into a materials replacement cost savings and to the mitigation of damage to building components and contents as a result of moisture penetration. Page 3 of 4; PC-NC
