Success Story Tough Mudder Brings in Mitto to Help with the Heavy Lifting Tough Mudder wanted to make better, data-driven decisions, but their data was stored in separate Salesforce objects that exceeded the load capabilities of the system. TableauHelp used Mitto, a fast, customizable data solution to merge this data and prepare it for advanced analytics. Tough Mudder is one of the world s most recognized endurance events. Participants attempt a 10-12 mile race and obstacle course that challenges their physical and mental strength. The race emphasizes the principles of team work, camaraderie and overcoming fears. To date, more than 2.5 million people have participated in Tough Mudder events. Movement is the Mission Tough Mudder relies on data analysis to improve customer experience, increase brand loyalty, and make informed, data-driven decisions. Much of Tough Mudder s data is collected and stored in Salesforce. Mitto helped their marketing team increase control of this data with advanced extracting, loading, transforming, and monitoring processes. Growing Pains As the business expanded, the marketing team outgrew Tableau s direct data connector to Salesforce. They needed deeper insight into customer cohorts and brand loyalty, but the volume of data was too large. New data structures needed to be created and maintained. To achieve their business goals they needed a solution with more control, better flexibility, and higher performance capabilities. Analytics Obstacle Course Tough Mudder s marketing team was forced to rely on ad hoc analysis of their marketing and sales data because of two main issues: first, the information was stored in separate Salesforce objects and second, the volume of the data in Salesforce exceeded its analytical capabilities. When a business question arose, they would run a summary report in Salesforce, export a million or more rows of data to SQL or Excel, then manually model and analyze it. This process was labor-intensive and lacked automation. Our process only provided high level metrics. It didn t allow for granularity of detail on the repeat customers. Alexander Von Rosebach Senior Business Analyst, Tough Mudder
We are able to see eye-toeye with one view of the data. We established our core key metrics and use those as our building blocks for our business. Alexander Von Rosebach Senior Business Analyst, Tough Mudder One Step, Extract and Load The team realized they needed a better process. The traditional method of extracting, transforming, and loading data requires scripting and database expertise or complex and expensive ETL tools. Tough Mudder embraced Mitto for its ability to simplify the extracting, loading, and modeling of data for advanced analytics in business intelligence platforms like Tableau. (see Figure 1). Why Mitto? It syncs Salesforce data to their existing database and simplifies additional transformation. It also alerts them of any changes or failures throughout the process so they can rest easy knowing that everything is moving properly. The best part? No scripting or database expertise required. A Single Source of Truth With a smooth data flow process and robust Tableau dashboards, Tough Mudder now has a clear and comprehensive view of their customers and a single source of data the entire business can use.
