PACS INTEGRATION Cómo How to integrar integrate iq-system PACS CON with cualquier any existing sistema medical de información information system médico Feel the power of an integrated PACS!
SOLUTIONS - PACS INTEGRATION Easy integration in 2 steps Interfacing a PACS with an existing MIS is not just like placing a new device. To obtain the desired synergy, it is crucial to ensure an efficient workflow and a proper matching between both systems. Most hospitals or imaging centers do already have MIS like electronic medical record systems (EMR), patient management systems (PMS), veterinary (VES), hospital (HIS) or radiology information systems (RIS), when they decide to go digital by acquiring a picture archiving and communication system (PACS). If vendors do not integrate and harmonize the PACS with existing information systems, there might be double recording of patient information as well as data inconsistencies. Of course, our iq-system PACS can be easily integrated with most MIS available on the market. Two properly matched systems will always offer the following advantages: a) Modalities receive the patient workflow information automatically from the MIS b) Data consistency between MIS and PACS is ensured since typing mistakes are avoided c) PACS studies can be automatically opened from the MIS The integration procedure is very easy, since you have to focus mostly on just two interfaces: 1. Patient scheduling interface 2. PACS viewer integration with the MIS client Depending on which MIS is used in an imaging center, there are several integration procedures that apply in each case. To learn more about how to easily integrate iq-system PACS with your MIS, have a look at the following pages. 2

1. scheduling interface Scenarios and Solutions A) MIS PROVIDES a DICOM WORKLIST as SCP In this most simple case, there is no additional scheduling interface required. The MIS offers the DICOM WORKLIST directly to the modalities. A few RIS and HIS can propose DICOM worklists directly. Front Desk MIS Client DICOM Worklist SCP of the MIS Modalities B) MIS provides scheduling data as HL7 messages to either files or to dedicated ports iq-worklist will be installed to the LAN and configured to receive HL7 file messages in a shared folder or to listen for HL7 messages on a dedicated port. iq-worklist reads those messages and proposes a DICOM WORKLIST as SCP to the DICOM modalities. This integration profile will be used by many RIS or HIS. HL7 files in a shared folder HL7 message to a port Front Desk MIS Client iq-worklist Server Modalities C) MIS provides scheduling data as BDT/GDT files iq-worklist will be installed to the LAN and configured to receive BDT/GDT files in a shared folder. iq-worklist reads those messages and proposes a DICOM WORKLIST as SCP to the DICOM modalities. This integration profile will mainly be used by German, Austrian and Swiss PMS and EMR vendors. BDT/GDT files in a shared folder Front Desk MIS Client iq-worklist Server Modalities 4
1. scheduling interface Scenarios and Solutions D) MIS provides scheduling data in a proprietary format, e.g. as CSV or plain text texto plano Send the data format specification including a few sample files to support@ image-systems.biz. If necessary, we will make the corresponding adaptations to iq-worklist, which will be installed to the LAN and configured to receive such messages in a shared folder. iq-worklist reads those messages and proposes a DICOM WORKLIST as SCP to the DICOM modalities. Older RIS and PMS can often write scheduling data in proprietary formats, only. Text files in a shared folder Front Desk MIS Client iq-worklist Server Modalities E) None of the above mentioned options? In principle, all PACS integratons should work for one of the interfaces mentioned above. If you still have questions or doubts, please contact support@ image-systems.biz for further instructions. 5
2. pacs viewer - integration Scenarios and Solutions A) The MIS can do a command line call to start a PACS viewer and hand over accession numbers (available in iq-view >=V2 and iq-webx WADO). iq-view or the WADO client will be installed on the same computer like the MIS client. The MIS client will be configured to start iq-view or the WADO client using a command line call and hand over one or more accession numbers. iq-view or iq-webx will look for those studies in the local image box as well as search all checked network nodes for these studies and display those studies after retrieval. A typical command call would be: C:\Program Files\iQ-VIEW\iQ-VIEW.exe -AccNo1 -AccNoX This integration profile does usually apply to many PMS and EMR. Command line call with accession number(s) Any MIS Client iq-view Opens Viewer directly B) The MIS can do a command line call to start a PACS viewer and hand over DICOM file names to be displayed (available in iq- VIEW >=V2.6) iq-view will be installed on the same computer like the MIS client. The MIS client will be configured to start iq-view using a command line call and hand over one or more DICOM file names. iq-view will use the given path and files to import into the local image box and display them afterwards immediately. A typical command call would be: C:\Program Files\iQ-VIEW\iQ-VIEW.exe File1 File2 This integration profile does usually apply to MIS with an own DICOM storage server. Command line call with DICOM file names Any MIS Client Automatic import in iq-view Opens Viewer directly 6
2. pacs viewer - integration Scenarios and Solutions C) MIS can write a file with a patient ID (BDT/GDT) and start a PACS viewer (available iq-view >=V2 and iq-webx WADO) iq-view or the WADO client will be installed on the same computer as the MIS client. The MIS client will be configured to write a file with a patient ID according to the BDT/GDT format and then start iq-view or the WADO client with the BDT/GDT file name of the patient ID. iq-view or the WADO client will use the patient ID of the given file and look in the local image box as well as search all checked DICOM network nodes for studies with the given patient ID. iq- VIEW or iq-webx will display a list with all search results in the study browser and offer the possibility to select the desired studies which shall be displayed or display one study if just one study matched with the search criteria. A typical command call would be: C:\Program Files\iQ-VIEW\iQ-VIEW.exe g BDTGDTFile The minimum requirement is a BDT/GDT file containing the following parameter: LLL3000PatID, e.g. 01130001234 The first 3 digits (LLL) determine the total length of the ASCII line. The next 4 digits (3000) are a tag for the patient ID. The next characters are the alphanumerical patient ID (PatID) Patient ID in a BDT/GDT file in a shared folder Any MIS Client iq-view If one study found opens Viewer directly If multiple studies found study browser opens directly D) The MIS comes with a software API for direct application calls. The MIS can control iq-view as a PACS viewer directly. There is an integration SDK provided by IMAGE Information Systems. The study selection can be done either by patient ID, accession number or study instance UID. This integration profile will typically be used by other MIS providers with interest in a deep MIS PACS integration. API Any MIS Client iq-view Opens Viewer directly Opens study browser directly 7
2. pacs viewer - integration Scenarios and Solutions E) Web-based MIS The web-based MIS can call URL links to start the ActiveX viewer of iq-webx to display images and structured reports. The MIS authenticates centrally at iq-webx. The MIS vendor and IMAGE shall sign an NDA to exchange confidential information about this interface. The study selection can be done either by patient ID, accession number, study instance UID or patient name. This integration profile will typically be used by web-based MIS providers or installations with multiple clients. Web-based link to studies Any web-based MIS Client iq-webx Studies can be displayed directly Result lists may displayed directly F) None of the above mentioned options match your requirements? Please contact us at support@image-systems.biz for further instructions. 8
