myki Commuter Club Frequently Asked Questions

What is the myki Commuter Club? The myki Commuter Club is a program allowing organisations to buy 365 day myki passes on behalf of their staff at a discounted rate. It allows organisations to pass on a 10 per cent saving to their staff. 365 day myki passes purchased through the Commuter Club can be used on all metropolitan trains, trams and buses. Customers are able to use these passes for travel in Melbourne s Zone 1+2 or Zone 2. myki money will need to be added to the card for regional travel. Organisations can choose how to offer employees a Commuter Club myki, for example salary packaging, one off payment etc. Organisations can also choose whether they pass on all or part of the discount. Some organisations may deduct a handling fee. The myki Commuter Club is a relationship between Public Transport Victoria and organisations and is not open to individuals. Payment is required up front and a minimum of 10 people are required to sign up from an organisation. Should I buy a myki before participating in the myki Commuter Club? No. When you place your first order for a 365 day myki pass through the myki Commuter Club, the myki card fee is waived ($6 saving). Can I buy a myki now and then load the Commuter Club pass onto it when I need to? No. Only myki cards issued via the Commuter Club program can be loaded with the discounted 365 day myki pass. This is because they are electronically coded as Commuter Club myki cards. I have my own myki can a yearly Commuter Club pass be loaded onto it? Only if your myki card was originally issued via the Commuter Club. If you obtained your myki any other way, it can not be loaded with a Commuter Club pass. Only myki cards issued via the Commuter Club program can be loaded with the discounted 365 day myki pass. This is because they are electronically coded as Commuter Club myki cards. I have a Commuter Club myki issued from another participating organisation can a yearly Commuter Club pass be loaded onto it by another participating organisation? No. Only myki cards purchased and distributed through the original Commuter Club account can be loaded with discounted 365 day passes. What is myki pass? myki pass is a pre-purchased number of consecutive travel days that gives you the best value fare. Simply choose the zone/s you wish to travel in and the number of consecutive days of travel you need. You can buy a 7-day myki pass, or anywhere between 28 and 365 consecutive days of travel. You must use consecutive travel days only (your myki pass cannot be paused). For example, a seven-day myki pass activated on Monday is valid for travel until Sunday. Your myki card can store two myki passes at a time. This means that when your current myki pass is almost expired, you can purchase your next pass so it is ready to activate when you need it. Only one myki pass can be active at a time. You need a myki money balance of $0.00 or more in order to travel using a myki pass. If your myki money balance is negative, it means a previous trip has not been fully paid for and you must top up with myki money. Example: You have a myki pass for Zone 2. You touch on in Zone 2 and touch off in Zone 1 the travel in Zone 1 will be deducted from your myki money balance. When does my myki 365 day myki pass start? Your myki pass starts when you first touch on and touch off at a myki reader in a zone for which it is valid. Once activated, your myki pass expires after 365 days, even if you do not travel with your myki on some of those days. myki Commuter Club (8.0) 2

How do I check when my pass expires? Your myki pass expiry date can be checked by: > > creating an online account via the PTV website: http://tinyurl.com/myki-setupwebaccess > > checking your myki on a myki machine, myki reader or myki check point. Will my myki 365 day pass expire if it s not activated? Yes. Your 365 day myki pass must be activated within 12 months of purchase. Any myki pass not activated within 12 months cannot be used. You are able to request a refund for the value of the unused pass. Will my myki 365 day pass ever go dormant? Yes. If you don t interact (touching on, checking your balance) with the myki system within 90 days of the pass being loaded to your card, it will be suspended. If you do not have myki money on your card to pay for your immediate trip, you will need to top up at a myki retailer, premium station or myki machine. Your myki 365 day pass top up will come out of suspension 24 hours after topping up with myki money. How do I know if my myki is has been issued through the myki Commuter Club and is Commuter Club (CC) passenger coded? All myki cards issued through the myki Commuter Club program are CC (Commuter Club) passenger coded. You can check to see if your myki is CC passenger coded at either a myki machine or myki check. Don t myki cards expire after four years? When should I get a new card? Yes. Your myki card will expire after four years. To ensure your myki does not expire within the 365 days of your pass, you should order a new card if it is between two and three years old. You can check your card expiry date on a myki machine, myki check or via online account. I ve got a myki pass, do I need myki money as well? You will only need myki money to travel outside the zone(s) for which your myki pass is valid. Why is there no myki money on my myki issued through the Commuter Club? The myki Commuter Club supplies participants with a 365 day myki pass loaded to a myki. myki money is only required if you travel outside of the Zone you have requested. You must load this value. Can I purchase myki money through the myki Commuter Club? No. Only 365 day myki passes are available to purchase through the myki Commuter Club. If you wish to top up with myki money, you can do so via a number of channels including myki machines, more than 800 retail outlets, the Public Transport Victoria (PTV) call centre on 1800 800 007 and ptv.vic.gov.au Can I purchase a Commuter Club 365 day myki pass if I don t live in Melbourne? The myki Commuter Club is a metropolitan program. 365 day myki passes purchased through Commuter Club are valid for use on all metropolitan trains, trams and buses. There is currently no plan to extend the Commuter Club availability beyond the Zone 1 and 2 area. Passengers that live outside the Zone 1 and 2 area can purchase a yearly myki pass at a heavily discounted rate compared with using myki money. This includes 40 days of free travel when a myki pass for 365 days is purchased. Will I get a new myki each year when my myki pass expires? No. When your 365 day myki pass expires, another 365 day myki pass is loaded to your myki at the request of your organisation. Only myki cards purchased and distributed through the original Commuter Club account can be loaded with discounted 365 day passes. How will I know when my pass has been loaded to my myki? When a myki pass has been loaded to your myki, you will see the expiry date of the active pass on the myki reader every time you touch on and off. Once your previous pass expires, your new pass will be activated upon first touch on and a new expiry date will be visible on the myki reader. You can check the expiry date of your new pass at a myki machine, myki check or via online account (if one has been set up). myki Commuter Club (8.0) 3

If the refund is to be issued back to the Cardholder, the Cardholder is required to complete the online refund form (http://ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/refunds-and-replacements/) or alternatively, the Cardholder can contact the PTV Call Centre on 1800 800 007. The Cardholder is then required to print a copy of the email confirmation of the refund request and post it along with the myki card you wish to have refunded to PTV at the following address: myki Mailbox Reply Paid 4318 Melbourne VIC 8060 Please allow up to 28 business days for your refund to be processed. The Cardholder must now approach their Commuter Club to order a new 365 day myki pass with the desired zone(s). Why is my myki registered? It is a condition of the myki Commuter Club program that all myki cards issued are registered (based on the details provided in the order form). Registration provides you with balance protection should your myki become lost / stolen and allows you to manage your account online. You can create an online account via the PTV website: tinyurl.com/myki-setupwebaccess Why do I need to supply my date of birth? All cards issued by the myki Commuter Club program are registered and your date of birth is a mandatory requirement in the registration process. It is a condition of the myki Commuter Club program that all myki cards issued are registered (based on the details provided in the order form). A registered myki can be blocked and replaced if your myki is lost or stolen. This cannot be done with an anonymous myki. Your date of birth also acts as a security question should you have to contact the PTV call centre. Do I receive an extra day of travel free in a leap year? The pass is valid for 365 days from the date of activation. It does not include an extra day of travel in a leap year. How do I get operator compensation loaded to my myki? Public transport passengers are eligible for compensation when public transport operators do not meet agreed service delivery standards. You are eligible to claim compensation when these standards are not met. myki Commuter Club (8.0) 4

Claims for compensation must be made directly to the operator by downloading and completing a form from the relevant operator s website. Compensation is paid in the form of myki money, which is loaded directly to your myki. You can also nominate another myki to receive this compensation, such as one belonging to a friend or family member, simply by providing the myki card number on the relevant form. Am I fare evading if I have an activated myki pass but don t touch on or off? You should continue to touch on and off as you travel to ensure you are travelling within the expiry date and the zone(s) for which your pass is valid. What is the minimum balance I need to travel using myki pass? You need a myki money balance of $0.00 or more in order to travel using a myki pass. If your myki money balance is negative, it means a previous trip has not been fully paid for and you must top up with myki money. Can I use my myki pass for travel on weekends? Yes your myki pass is valid for unlimited travel in your selected zone(s) until the expiry date of the pass. This includes travel during the week and at weekends. What happens if I forget to touch off using myki pass will I be charged a default fare? You should always touch on and touch off to ensure you do not travel outside of the zone(s) for which your pass is valid or beyond the expiry date of your pass. Any travel in zone(s) outside the validity of your myki pass is paid for with myki money. Passengers using myki pass will not be charged a default fare when you touch on in a zone for which your pass is valid. If you touch on in a zone for which your pass is not valid and then fail to touch off, you will be charged a default fare. I m planning on submitting my 365 day pass in for a refund how is the refund amount calculated? Refunds are only available on a Commuter Club yearly pass that has been held for less than 293 days because the discount rate on a Commuter Club myki pass means you receive 365 days travel but only pay for 293 days. For example: > > you paid $1368.90 for a Zone 1 + 2 Commuter Club 365 day pass (325 days x $4.68 daily rate = $1521.00 x 90 per cent for your Commuter Club discount) > > you apply for a refund on the 210th day > > you would have paid $982.80 if you had bought 210 days originally (210 days x $4.68) > > your refund amount is $386.10, based on the fare you would have paid for a 210 day pass, subtracted from the amount you originally paid. My card has become damaged / defective can I have my card replaced on the spot? Yes. You can have your damaged / defective card replaced on the spot at a staffed station or at a PTV Hub. The balance on your old card will be transferred to the new card as part of the replacement process. Please allow 36 hours for your remaining myki pass days to be available on your replacement myki. You will need to top up your replacement myki if you need to travel before the remaining myki pass days have transferred to your new card. How do I update my postal address? Your detail can be updated by: > > logging into your myki account via the PTV website at ptv.vic.gov.au. If you do not have an online account, you can create one via the PTV website: tinyurl.com/myki-setupwebaccess > > contacting the PTV call centre on 1800 800 007. I have a valid myki pass but I can t touch on why is this happening? If you have a valid myki pass but can t touch on, this may be because you have a negative myki money balance.
