Dear Candidate, Thank you for your interest in the role of Forum Facilitator at LUU. LUU is much more than just a building, we are an organisation led by its 34,000 members. You d be joining at an exciting time; the multi-million pound Union Upgrade is nearing completion, we re moving into the final year of our strategic plan and looking ahead to where we want to be in 2022 plus the team will be moving into brand new office space. This role will involve working closely with the Student Led Change team here at LUU to ensure that the student voice is heard, and our members are able to make change. It will allow you to see and support a sector-leading democratic structure the Better Forums - and play a key role in debates, elections, Question Times and more across the year. You ll get to meet lots of students via the Forums, as well as candidates in our Leadership Race, local MPs and the Vice-Chancellor. It will be a great opportunity for you to develop your communication, chairing and facilitation. In the team we aim to help more students believe in their own efficacy and to create change on campus, in the city and in the wider word. However we never stop trying to be better at what we do. This makes for a vibrant, challenging environment. Students are central to our work and each year we are amazed by their enthusiasm, ideas and achievements. We are looking for a like-minded, driven individual who can help us deliver key projects within the Union and help ensure the student voice is heard and celebrated. Leeds University Union Job Description Forum Facilitator Responsible to: Democracy Manager Job Purpose: Facilitating the Better Forums (Union, University & Leeds) to help students have an efficient and inclusive meeting. Chairing debates across the year. Background to Department: This role is part of the Student Led Change team, they re responsible for running the democratic processes (including the Better Forums, and elections) in LUU and assisting the Student Exec in matters of policy and campaigning. Main Activities for the Forum Facilitator To be familiar with the Forum agenda in advance of the meeting. To ensure Forums are well run, productive and participative. To keep the meeting focussed on one item at a time To regulate the flow of discussion in line with the Union s bye-laws. To clarify and summarise points made by students whilst remaining impartial To outline the implications of different decisions for the student panel To help the deal with conflicts and help identify opportunities for synergy To keep the meeting to time Planning To contribute to the development and implementation of the Student Led Change department plan Working with Others To deal with members and colleagues in a caring and professional manner at all times

Relevant action plans will be created where appropriate to underpin this policy and ensure it is embedded; these will be maintained by the relevant members of staff and the student executive. The policy and its implications for all staff and students will be communicated clearly on LUU s website and in all appropriate staff and student training. How to raise a concern LUU is committed to ensuring the principles of this policy are upheld, and that no student or staff member should face discrimination, harassment or victimisation. If you see or experience actions or behaviour clearly not in line with this policy: Students can raise their concerns to a member of the Student Executive, make an informal or formal complaint. Staff including Student Staff should inform their line manager or speak to a member of the People department. Monitoring & Review The Equality and Diversity Officer and the Chief Executive will review this policy after one year, and update it if they see fit. The policy must be reviewed and refreshed after 3 years, the Board of Trustees are responsible for ensuring this takes place, with the direct involvement of the Membership Services manager & Equality and Diversity Officer.
