Program (. or Integrated Prof. Dr. Abdullah Öztürk Production and Photocatalytic properties of B and Zr codoped TiO2 powders. This study aims to improve photocatalytic efficiency of TiO 2 powder by B and Zr co- doping by sol-gel and hydrothermal processing methods. Powders produced by each method will be characterized by X-Ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). XRD will be used to identify the crystalline phases present in the powders produced. Changes in lattice parameters of TiO 2 structure after doping will also be determined by XRD. SEM and particle size analyzer will be used for examining the morphology of powders. X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) will be used to observe the effect of doping on TiO 2 powders. Photocatalytic performance of the powders will be evaluated by Methylene Bluee test under UV light illumination using a UV-vis Spectrophotometer. The candidate must be student and must work at least 6 hour/day in the lab. The candidate must have about sol-gel and hydrothermal processing methods. There is no funding. An investigation of the nitrogen sensitivity of δ to γ balance and grain morphology in duplex stainless steel weldments The balanced delta-ferrite (δ) and austenite (γ) content of duplex stainless steel (DSS) offers a good combination of strength and corrosion resistance. Due to its relatively higher strength, chloride stress-corrosion cracking and pitting resistance, DSS has been preferred to austenitic stainless steels especially in components like piping and reaction vessels, where welding is an inevitable process in fabrication. The competitive value of keyhole welding among fusion welding techniques is beyond controversy. Keyhole welding techniques have occupied one of two future-promising research and development concepts through studies of Non-conventional Joining Group in Middle East Technical University, Welding Technology and Non-destructive Testing Research and Application Center since 2009. Except electron beam welding, which is applied under vacuum, fusion zone of the weldment is shielded from the air during keyhole welding performances, such as plasma arc welding and Laser beam welding. Nitrogen in the shielding atmosphere benefits densification of a plasma jet that directly affects the power density and consequently the surface tension of the weld pool and the direction of Marangoni convection through the weld pool. However, nitrogen is considered to be a critical element for DSS since phase balance and morphology in as-welded microstructure of the material would be affected significantly. Program (. or Integrated Other details (funding, any other aspect that you think applicant should know about the project working condition full time/part time, etc.) The objective of the thesis is to investigate interactions in between the nitrogen concentration in the shielding gas, the plasma jet densification, the weld pool convection, and phase balance and morphology during hybrid plasma arc welding and Laser beam welding of DSS. Concerning the projection that DSS will continue to share a significant portion of the stainless steel market and there are still many points to be cleared for the nitrogen sensitivity of DSS, possible outputs of this thesis would have impact on areas of welding metallurgy and physical metallurgy of DSS.. The applicant should have a sound background in metallurgy of stainless steels and a significant background in arc welding processes. She or he should be eager to study mass and heat transfer phenomena in a comprehensive manner.
