Lakota Canyon Ranch Golf Course Clubhouse - Materials Testing/Special Inspection Garfield County, Colorado General Comments Field Observation Reports Job #15-6582 GROUND Engineering Consultants, Inc. Period Ending 10/31/2015
Job No: 15-6582 Date: October 30, 2015 General Comments As scheduled, a representative arrived on-site to perform the below discussed services and we have the following comments. ***OPEN HOLE*** At GL locations A.0-D.0/1.0-6.0, the exposed materials at the base of the 24" over-excavation for the Cart Barn were observed. The exposed materials were predominantly comprised of sandy gravel and cobbles that were generally consistent with the anticipated conditions as outlined in the project geotechnical report prepared by Huddleston-Berry dated June 10, 2013. HB's report references an allowable bearing capacity of 2,000 PFC. The exposed materials were prepared in accordance with project documents. ***STRUCTURAL FILL*** While on site, we observed RM Construction had placed structural backfill for the 24" foundation over-excavation for the cart barn footprint. Along approximate GL A.0-D.0/1.0-6.0, RM Construction utilized a water hose, front-end loader and smooth drum vibratory roller to moisture-condition, place and compact the structural fill material in lifts up to approximate building elevation 96.5'. The structural fill was generated from the foundation excavation and "grizzlied" to remove oversized material greater than 6". Since the structural fill contains greater than 30% rock retained on the 3/4" sieve, according to ASTM D698/1557, nuclear moisture-density testing should not be used for acceptance testing. Upon visual observation, the material appeared moist, dense, and generally unyielding beneath the weight of the compacting equipment. Luke with RM Construction was notified of today's observations.
