SCC Machine Control 3D Modeling: Autodesk Civil 3D is the CAD software utilized to create the models used in all of the equipment with Automated Machine Guidance (AMG).
SCC Machine Control 3D Modeling: As a model based environment, Civil 3D provides significant time savings as each 3D surface is dynamically linked to the alignments, profiles as well as volume calculation tools and quantity documentation.
SCC Machine Control FDOT Civil 3D Presentation: The Department has been doing a lot of research to standardize the process. http://www.dot.state.fl.us/officeofdesign/traini ng/designexpo/2014/presentations/quintonti llman-fdotcivil3dsubassemblies- ForCorridorModeling.pdf
SCC Equipment Komatsu D51PXi-22 : These dozers are equipped with a factory installed integrated machine control systems. The only AMG component visible on the exterior is the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) antenna mounted on the cab top. The dozers blade is fully automatic, controlling not only grade and cross slope, but also monitors the blade load, adjusting the blade elevation to limit track slip. The operator sees the design surface, grades, and other roadway alignments via the in-cab monitor.

SCC Equipment John Deere 672-GP : This motorgrader is outfitted with Topcon s Millimeter GPS AMG. This type of AMG relies on GNSS for horizontal position, while the vertical is controlled by a laser to provide high precision stake-less grading. This system has the potential to generate designed grades on the first pass, reducing time and cost when compared to traditional stake and grade methods.

SCC Equipment - Overview The use of accurate 3D model data in conjunction with AMG, horizontal and vertical guidance are displayed in real time, lowers cost by reducing time and labor necessary to complete the project all while improving quality and safety.
SCC Equipment Pros Accurate 3D models disclose design conflicts prior to construction The need for survey layout is dramatically reduces during dirt moving operations; as much as 60 to 70 percent Accurately moving material once lowers cost by reducing grade crew labor and operating time on machines
SCC Equipment Cons 3D modeling work flow procedure must be established and followed to insure model accuracy. Users of 3D modeling software and AMG systems who are not fully trained will produce sub-standard results.
Stabilized Subgrade Stabilizer material is local shell rock. Initial LBR in the low 40 s would not support asphalt base paving operations. Increased stabilizer to achieve LBR s in the mid 60 s and increase consistency/quality of asphalt base.
Stabilized Subgrade
Asphalt Base Only component of pavement structure not built by machine control. Two lifts of 2 utilized. Yield on asphalt base has been good, but have to deal with slight undulations in profile grade.

PCCP Pavement Structure and Machine Control Pros 3D modeling and machine control, when utilized correct, can make drastic increases in productivity and accuracy. The model allows contractors to access the design layout before construction takes place and make changes. This means that when construction occurs, there are fewer errors and far less rework needed.
PCCP Pavement Structure and Machine Control Cons 3D modeling and machine control is only as good as the information and accuracy used to create the model. There is a risk of becoming overly dependent on the machines. Mistakes can go unnoticed longer. There is a lag in the Engineering community and standards need to be developed.
