MBA IN FINANCE The MBA programme in Finance is a four-semester Work Integrated Learning Post Graduate Programme. This programme is designed for participants who are working in the broad and complex field of Finance or Banking and Financial Services industry. The programme is also ideal for professionals working in other industries/ functions (such as the IT industry, etc.) who have a keen interest in Finance and are looking for a transition to a more finance related role. Globalisation in the Indian economy and related deregulation has lead to the rapid growth and development in the banking and financial markets leading to an increased demand for qualified and skilled finance professionals who can make key decisions with minimal errors. In addition to the globalisation, the opening up of the Indian economy to foreign investments has further accelerated the need for qualified finance professionals. This course equips participants with the much needed skills, strategies and finance know-how for a successful career in the broad area of Finance and Banking and Financial Services industry. PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS The methodology applied in this course is a combination of class room and experiential learning. Experiential learning consists of financial modelling workshops, business simulations, case studies and other work integrated activities. Financial modelling workshops and business simulations enable the participants to gain familiarity with the practical aspects of the finance function. Case studies consist of analysing a given situation and finding solutions to issues, using the techniques learnt in class. Work integrated activities consists of reviewing the work performed at the workplace in the context of the concepts and skills learnt in class, and potentially enhancing the quality of decision making at the workplace using the techniques learnt. This enables the student relate and implement classroom learning concepts to their professional work. PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES The programme aims to address the need for skilled professionals in the Finance and the Banking and Financial Services industry. The key objectives of the MBA, Finance Programme are as follows: Prepare working professionals to take on challenging roles in the Finance sector, particularly in the context of globalisation and de-regulation Train participants in the latest developments in the area of Finance Help students master a core set of general management skills in key business disciplines such as Accounting, Strategy, Marketing, Human Resources, and Finance so as to enable them to integrate and apply this knowledge to develop effective solutions to complex multidisciplinary business problems Equip students with a good mix of theoretical and cutting edge practical skills so they can be immediately effective and productive on the job
LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of this programme, the participants will be able to effectively apply the following principles and concepts: Strong foundation in Financial analysis and management Apply basic accounting principles and analyze key financial statements Good understanding of financial markets and products and related terminology Recent trends in Finance and Banking/ Financial Services Industry Analysis of real-world situations through the use of case studies and simulations Understanding finance and improving the management of organizations Financial Modeling (using Excel) Strategy formulation and execution ELIGIBILITY Employed professionals working in finance and allied business domains, holding either (1) a three-year undergraduate degree in relevant disciplines with adequate preparation in mathematics, and minimum two years work experience in relevant domains, OR (2) an Integrated First Degree of BITS such as B.E., M.Sc. or its equivalent, with adequate preparation in mathematics, and minimum one year work experience in relevant domains. Employer consent with suitable mentor availability is also required. SEMESTER-WISE PROGRAMME STRUCTURE Students need to take 7 management core courses (mandatory), 4 area core courses (mandatory) and may choose 3 elective courses depending on their background and desired specialization. HOW TO APPLY Please note that in order to apply to a WILP programme, the candidate must be currently employed in the relevant professional field. Carefully read through the following steps to understand the application process: 1. Click here to go to the BITS Pilani Online Application Center. Create your login at the Application Center by entering your unique Email ID and create a password of your choice. Once your login has been created, you can anytime access the online Application Center using your email ID and password. 2. Once you have logged in, you will see a screen showing 4 essential steps to be completed to apply for the programme of your choice. 3. Begin by clicking on Step 1 - Fill/ Edit and Submit Application Form. This will enable you to select the programme of your choice. After you have chosen your programme, you will be asked to fill your details in an online form. You must fill all details and press Submit button given at the bottom of the form. 4. Take the next step by clicking on Step 2 - 'Download Application PDF Copy. This will download a pdf copy of the application form on your computer. 5. Now, click on Step 3 - 'Pay Application Fee to pay INR 1,500/- using Netbanking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card. 6. Take a printout of the downloaded Application Form and note down the Application Form Number that appear on the top-right corner of the first page. This Application Form Number should be referred in all future correspondence with BITS Pilani. 7. In the printout of the downloaded Application Form, you will notice on page no. 3 a section called the Employer Consent Form. Complete the Employer Consent Form. This form needs to be signed and stamped by your organisation s HR or any other authorised signatory of the company. 8. Further on page no. 4 of the printed Application Form is a section called the Mentor Consent Form. The Mentor Consent Form needs to be signed by the Mentor. Who is a Mentor: Candidates applying to Work Integrated Learning Programmes must choose a Mentor, who will monitor the academic progress of the candidate, and act as an advisor & coach for successful completion of the programme. Candidates should ideally choose the immediate supervisor or another senior person from the same organisation. In case a suitable mentor is not available in the same organisation, a candidate could approach a senior person in another organisation who has the required qualifications. Wherever the proposed Mentor is not from the same employing organization as that of the candidate, a supporting document giving justification for the same should be provided by the candidate s employer. Candidates applying to B.Tech. programmes should choose a Mentor who is an employed professional with B.E./ B.S./ B.Tech./ M.Sc./ A.M.I.E./ Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent. Candidates applying to M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA, M.Phil programme should choose a Mentor who is an employed professional with: a. B.E. / M.Sc. / M.B.A. / M.C.A. / M.B.B.S. etc. and with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. OR
b. M.E./ M.S./ M.Tech./ M.Phil./ M.D./ Higher Degree of BITS or equivalent. 9. Further on page no. 5 of the downloaded Application Form, is a Checklist of Enclosures/ Attachments. a. Make photocopies of the documents mentioned in this Checklist. b. Get these photocopies attested by your organisation s HR, or a Gazetted Officer. 10. Finally, click on Step 4 - 'Upload & Submit All Required Documents. This will allow you to upload one-by-one the printed Application Form, Mentor Consent Form, Employer Consent Form, and all mandatory supporting documents and complete the application process. Acceptable file formats for uploading these documents are.doc,.docx,.pdf,.zip and.jpeg. 11. Upon receipt of your Application Form and all other enclosures, the Admissions Cell will scrutinise them for completeness, accuracy and eligibility. 12. Admission Cell will intimate selected candidates by email within two weeks of submission of application with all supporting documents. The selection status can also be checked by logging in to the Online Application Centre.completeness, accuracy and eligibility. CURRICULUM DETAILS Participants need to take 7 foundation courses (mandatory), 6 area core courses (mandatory) and may choose any 4 elective courses depending on their background and desired specialization. In addition, during the final semester of the program, participants are required to complete a capstone project that is relevant to their work environment and enables them to integrate their learning's across the entire program. Foundation courses Business Data Mining Financial Management Introduction to Statistical Methods Management Information Systems Marketing Models and Applications in Operations Research Supply Chain Management Foundation courses help build a strong foundation in the underlying theory and practice relating to Business Analytics. They are designed to give participants a solid background in Statistical/ Quantitative methods and related Data Analysis techniques. In addition, they enable the participants to develop the necessary understanding across relevant business disciplines so as to enable them to work effectively in cross functional teams and take quick decisions that require the ability to integrate knowledge across business functions. Area Core courses Advanced Statistical Methods Analytics for Competitive Advantage Big Data Analytics Introduction to Data Science Optimisation Methods for Analytics Predictive Analytics Area core courses provide the necessary base of knowledge in Business Analytics and Data Sciences. These set of courses equip the participant with the core set of Data Sciences, Data Mining, Big Data Analytics, and other relevant skills that is essential for extracting meaningful information from the multitude of data that is collected by business and organisations across the globe. These courses will equip the participants with the tools and techniques to make better business decisions and thereby build a sustainable competitive advantage.
Elective courses Advanced Financial Modeling Data Visualisation Financial Risk Analytics HR Analytics Investment Banking Analytics Marketing Analytics Marketing Models Retail Analytics Supply Chain Analytics Real-time Analytics Text Analytics Electives provide specialised knowledge relating to sub-areas and specialisations within Business Analytics. The Data Visualisation elective helps participants to learn how to effectively present analytical findings in a visual manner so that it is easy to make decisions and identify new patterns. Finance electives such as Advanced Financial Modeling, Financial Risk Analytics, and Investment Banking Analytics enable the participants to learn how to leverage business analytics techniques to deliver a competitive business advantage in diverse areas such as fraud detection, trading analytics, etc. Similarly each of the other courses in this group allows the participant to master a specialised body of knowledge that is relevant for managers to harness the power of Business Analytics within the context of their business function and industry.
