Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Managing Data Management Systems & Integration ACI NA Annual Conference Operations & Technical Committee September 9, 2012 F. Paul Martinez Vice President Operations
What should integration provide? Effective solutions, not problems Supports decision making Continuous improvement The Three C s should not be Concern, Complexity and Cost The Three C s should be Communication, Coordination and Collaboration
What are the concerns? Too Complex How do I approach this? Too Costly How do I staff this and what s my software requirement? How do I maintain it? What are the benefits? What is the core Return on Investment?
Example of DFW Core Business Systems Integration Skire Program Management System Manages CapEx $ s Contains project detail, cost, schedule and deliverables, etc. InforEAM Asset Management System Manages O&M $ s Contains work orders, asset inventory, PM schedule, etc. PropWorks Manages Revenue $ s Contains revenue for leaseholds, landed weights, water use, etc. Oracle Financials Manages value and depreciation
Safety Management System Purpose: Capture hazard, incident, and risk assessment results into a single source warehouse and provide location via lat/long Application Provides: Hazard and incident support documentation and analysis (both reactive and proactive) Data Sources: Infor EAM Call Center module ------------------- Initial point of data entry Work Order module ------------------- DASIR and preventative maintenance Risk Assessment Tool (custom) ------------------- Incident, independent, and SRA risk ratings, action assignment and tracking
Dashboard View Still developing SMS-related KPIs Infor-EAM is a web-based application utilized for Asset Management maintenance work orders (includes preventative maintenance too), Operations 139 violations work orders and Call Center records, Energy and Transportation Management fleet maintenance and tracking, and now hazard and incident records
Example Surface Incident record (top of entry page) Lat/Long under development for mapping capability for any record, includes incidents and hazards (i.e. FOD findings)
Example Surface Incident record (bottom of entry page) Support Equipment Utilized and Event Details
Surface Incident record documentation in comments tab
Surface Incident record documents tab (example 1 attached statement)
Surface Incident record documents tab (example 2 attached map)
Flight Track Analysis Purpose: Compare noise compliance compatibility before and after Application Provides: Impact of flight track changes on residents, potential costs of noise abatement and resident relocations Data Sources: Parcel Data Ownership and Value ------- Land Use Classification ------------------------- Flight Tracks --------------------------------------- Dallas and Tarrant County Appraisal District GIS files NCTCOG GIS Files TraCon App GIS Export
iairport Spatial Analysis Projects Flight Track Analysis Impact of Revised Flight Operations (RNAV) on Community
Capital Project Planning Purpose: Evaluate impacts of intersecting Capital Projects Application Provides: Ability to optimize project cost and schedule. Provides interface review project documents online Data Sources: Project Limits and Location ------------------- Project Financial Detail ------------------------ Project Cut Sheets ------------------------------ DFW GIS database Oracle Financials Oracle UCM
iairport Integration Projects Capital Project Planning
Airport Operations Center C3 Portal and Status Board Purpose: Provides real-time situational awareness Application Provides: Operational status of airfield and road segments, parking availability, deicing staging and DASIR work order status Data Sources: Airfield, Deicing, Parking Polygons ---- DFW GIS Database Road Segments ------------------------- DFW GIS Database DASIR Incidents -------------------------- InforEAM Airfield, Parking, Road Status --------- ASTS Database Deicing Status ---------------------------- SCADA Database
iairport Integration Projects Airport Operations Center Status Board - Current Tool
iairport Integration Projects Airport Operations Center C3 Portal - Launches October
iairport Airfield Pavement Assessment Purpose: Reveal Patterns in Pavement Condition to Guide Capital Renewal Decisions and Operational Maintenance Activities Application Provides: Correlation of age, replacement history, inspection and repair history Improves Capital Planning by reducing scope, schedule and cost. Data Sources: Runway, Taxiway, Apron Segment ----------- Pavement Tiles ----------------------------------- Pavement Age ------------------------------------- Pavement Distresses ----------------------------- Daily Airfield Inspection -------------------------- Repair History ------------------------------------- Airfield Operational Data ------------------------ AGIS AGIS As-built documents Bi-annual inspection InforEAM InforEAM ASTS, FAA & Noise Center
iairport Airfield Pavement Assessment Without iairport Pavement data were in tabular files and written condition analysis reports. Difficult or prohibitively expensive to determine root causes for distress patterns With iairport Rapid and Easy correlation of operations data, daily and bi-annual inspection data with forensic data (history of renewal, age, soils, utility repairs, construction data etc.) More informed justifications for CIP expenditures, more informed engineering design decisions
iairport Wildlife Management Programming Purpose: Guide decision-making by assessing patterns of wildlife activity and by correlating bird strike activity to avian radar data Application Provides: Automation and reconciliation of DFW and FAA birds strikes Decision-support tool for mitigation of wildlife activity. Data Sources: Bird Strike Events ---------------------------- Avian Radar ---------------------------------- Wildlife Habitat Areas ----------------------- Mowing Areas --------------------------------- Airport Land Use ------------------------------ Hydrology / Wetlands ------------------------ Flora and Fauna ------------------------------ Airfield Operational Data -------------------- FAA and Operations FAA Operations Asset Management GIS AGIS AGIS Airfield Operational Data FAA & Noise Center
iairport Wildlife Management Programming Without iairport DFW Airport bird strike data submitted via paper and then several weeks occurred before it appeared in the FAA Strike database. All data had to be compiled into an Excel file before reporting. Bird Strike locations were posted on a wall map with adhesive dots for a three period. There was an inability to create reports on temporal frequency and number of strikes. Process Bird to FAA Database Strike Event Data and Reconcile Mash-up of mowing, land cover and other data sets with bird strike data With iairport Rapid and Easy reconciliation of DFW and FAA bird strike databases for reporting, posting locations to a GIS map. More informed wildlife mitigation by using land cover, wildlife habitant, mowing program and airline operational information map layers.
What does integration provide for DFW Airport? A solution, not a problem Smart integration solutions Supports decision making Continuous improvement Eye on the future

Surface SMS Incident Form record currently documents in beta tab environment (example 2 attached map) This will be utilized to record hazards that are associated with incidents, independent hazards, or hazards identified as a result of Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs), SRAs can be operational or for construction projects each above will have a record created for them, and the form can associate single or multiple hazards with that record ( Call Center Record ID points them back to the actual record and Event ID assigns each hazard a unique number).
SRA checkbox indicator (needs adjusted for spelling and Risk ) SMS Managing Form Data hazard Management identification Systems & and Integration risk assessment tool (not fully populated)
Search to whom you want to assign the action
Select to whom you want to assign the action
Add Actions for the hazard (can add multiple actions for a single contact and/or multiple actions for multiple contacts), assign required feedback and deadline dates, click send email and a precanned email will send the contact the assignment of responsibility and dates required. Can add multiple actions as well as view the email history of that action. continued
record when the action has been completed, enter a cost for the action, enter confidential comments (these are not sent to the person assigned).
Search database and generate reporting based on origin of hazard, initial/residual risk ratings, hazard category, actual or potential consequences, or hazards as a result of SRAs.
